HTC One M8 (One successor) smartphone

It depends what you're after I guess. Part of what put me off the M8 is the way Sense 6.0 looked, especially Blinkfeed which felt like a step down from the previous version. It's still a nice UI but I've found the LG suits my needs perfectly, and considering how often I take landscape photos and show off videos etc. on my phone the better camera and screen of the LG swayed it for me over the possibility of a tiny bit of delay here and there.

Mind you I haven't experienced delays or slow loading on either handset, I used both phones extensively in store over the last few months and neither had any issues with lag or delay apart from one occassion where the M8 got stuck on the home screen with no icons loading. The only phone that had ongoing issues for me was the S5 but that was never on the cards anyway. I guess time will tell if the LG slows down dramatically!

EDIT: Having read a few reviews of the LG I'm beginning to wonder if Europe or the UK got a slightly different model to the US. I've come across some things that simply don't happen or exist on my handset such as the "2 wrench icons in the quick view menu that do the same thing" - there is a single cog icon and it's used to access the customisation for the entire quick view section!

EDIT 2: It looks like I spoke too soon, my entire screen just glitched into 2 halves and has now got a constant flicker to it. It's going back tomorrow to be replaced with another.

I got my G3 a few days back, and it's a great experience so far. Absolutely no issues. I like to note though that the top part of the back does get warm after intensive use but it isn't extremely hot. No overheating warnings either.

I sorted my screen issue by just leaving the phone alone for a couple of minutes. 👍 I haven't suffered any overheating issues though, the only thing I have noticed is that you can't set the brightness to 100% when the phone is warm but it's so bright at 90% that it really doesn't matter.

Besides that I really really like this phone. The keyboard is VERY good for a stock setup and viewing photos on the large high res screen is still amazing me a week on. The battery life is great too, I've been using the phone pretty much non stop every day at 60% brightness with location services on and the battery will always last at least 11 hours.

Similar with regard to the M8, the battery life (in comparison to my old S2) is amazing.

I'm also impressed by the camera as well, the two lens set-up and the 'faked' depth of field it allows you with u-focus is actually very, very handy.

The DOF effect on the M8 disappointed me a little, it felt like it was too obvious where the change had been made. The LGs multiple DOF works much more effectively but does require a longer exposure time to get the effect in the first place as it genuinely captures images for various focus points. I don't think I'll be using any of the 'special' modes apart from the panorama mode though.

Ah the U Focus works well enough for my needs, but its does work better with some images than others and has the advantage of being pretty much standard on non-flash images.

Either way the LG and HTC both seem to be hurting Samsung spec and feature wise right now and I don't think you can go wrong with either.

The Samsung S5 will still sell like crazy though, they always do. The design of the object itself looks pretty poor next to the competition IMO and the OS, while getting better, still leaves a lot to be desired. But people will still buy it because marketing.

I'm upgrading in a matter of weeks, and it is between these phones! I can't wait, I have the Galaxy S3 at the moment and I've hated it (suckered by the above...). I had the HTC desire HD before it, and it was perfect for throughout the 2 year contract. I wish I had never upgraded, or had at least upgraded to the newest HTC (this was just before latest range was out, and I felt at the time that they were lagging behind or fading...). As a result I am leaning towards the HTC M8 next, but dat LG screen...

The LG G3 sure does look good, still waiting to get my hands on it, a difficult phone to get in stock at work as the price don't seem to have dropped much. I've not been a fan of Samsung phones after having the S3. Don't get me wrong the S3 is still a good phone but the HTC models are now what I sticking with. I've stuck with the M7, didn't go for the M8 so I'll wait a while until they release the next flagship model. @pezzarinho17 Also check out the HTC One Mini 2 (M8)

Probably Asian market only, but I thought this phone was quite interesting; HTC J Butterfly HTL23. Internally it's the M8 but waterproof and better camera..

So I've had some time playing around with my LG G3 (3 gig ram, 32gb storage) and I ordered a Galaxy S5 for my mum so had a time playing with that and I must say I am glad I went with the G3. Not saying the S5 is a bad phone because it is really good also. I just like almost everything about the G3 a little more from its screen (size and res), physical feel, physical layout, knock code etc to its GUI. The advantages of the S5 I would say would be a slight slight edge in colour richness, the S5 colour pops a tiny bit more side by side and its etc camera options.

I love this phone so much. This year in general has been great for awesome phones. I have to keep telling myself don't go to the store and buy them all lol. I don't own a M8, but just everything about it seems awesome. One thing I don't like however is how tall it is. That is a major concern for me since stretching my hand to reach the top for the notifications I hate doing.
