Hummer H2 Test Ride

Most people may not like the looks of the H1 or H2, but it's one of the few vehicles that performs as advertised. For $50,000+, you don't get a whole lot of creature comforts...unless you find comfort in getting out of foot-deep mud, 18" boulders...you get the idea. GM has put out quality military vehicles for decades. These are just roadgoing versions of them (adding radio, A/C, leather seats, etc.). The current Jeep Wrangler is an evolution of the original 1940 Chrysler GP. The Impreza WRX 22B is a roadgoing version of the 1997 WRC car. Some find the WRX ugly, some find the H2 hideous. They're still valid, highly capable, roadgoing extensions of extreme vehicles. Doubt them not. :)

This is the ONE and only gripe about the hummer, (other than at a car show which I will mention later.) Is that they managed to take a vehicle with a WIDE wheelbase, and increase the height so much that it becomes as unstable as every other SUV in the world. My other gripe is the went away with military spec equipemnt, (portal axles ect.) and to a traditional drivetrain.

its a bit of an overkill dont ya think???

when i go four wheel driving, i enjoy a bit of a challenge.
people don't however like breaking things when offroading... Thats where military spec vehicles come in. The h2 right now is more like a landrover than an original hummer. I personally off road in our durango, comletely stock. We go where the people with supermodified trucks go. We just need copious use of throttle to get up some area's. Havn't broken anything yet... :fingerscrossed:

The Hummer can climb a two-foot vertical ledge.
been there done that. It CAN do it. :) Also depending on what tires you have on it at the time.

My cousin bought one strictly for getting to a job site. He worked forestry, and got damn sick and tired of getting his trucks (4wd) stuck on his way to work, so he got a hummer.

I am more the type of person that would BUILD my own custom vehicle ala (www.offroad.com) because I could get the same ability for a cheaper price.

I remember when GM and Jeep had that big fight about the grill. It was all over the news here since the plant and everything is here in town.

i saw a few of them, one red from my friend (he changed for another larger yellow)
but the best was a black mate totaly tinted (with a big plate:f.b.i )
no matter what people's say the humer is king of ofroad.

btw: i like h2,but h2 comvertible i love it.

Here is the tamed beast.

This SUV is overly ridiculous! I saw it personally, and I think this is nonsense. An SUV that cost $50,000, as big as an Escalade with 5-6 seats and a 12/15 mileage. I think it ridiculous.

I'd rather get the BMW-based Range Rover or the Lexus LX470/Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus.

Sorry about the negative comment, anyway this is a free forum.

it looks like a jeep grand cherokee on steroids. if someone would post a pic of one you'ed see what i mean.

i have seen aproximately 12 different ones driving around where i live.

Two foot vertical climbs? :P

Actually, though any sensible person would admit that the current Hummer ("H1?") is the best vehicle for off-road prowess, the H2 suprises me - low ground clearance, expensive for ability, and rather (not ugly) poor-looking. I'd rather have a G500.

Well I wasn't saying it looks all that great but they drive quite good.

hey the gm guy saw my work, and they contac me for make a few special packages.

look the 04 model,i call this "cobra edition".

I'd much rather get a slightly used wrangler and put some G's into the drivetrain and suspension. Comfortable, looks great, much more economical, and not too big to go where you're not supposed to, LOL. I like the super mega mongrel ugly comment :D That thing reminds me of some of the poorly graphiced, (a new word by me?), traffic vehicals, running around on NFS2, on PS1. The H1 is awesome, though not really meant to be driven around town. Just on the topic of hummers, lol, there's this moron at home who bought a govt. surplus one, for around 50g's, then parked it against somebodies house and caught the house a' fire. It effectively DESINTIGRATED the house and hummer. The only thing left of that vehical was some scrap metal, and not much of that, heh. I think he actually made out with that scam too

I agree with the small group. The H2 is ugly, why'd they have to ruin what was already great. It just dosen't look right being round and having a chrome grill, It's just another one of those trendy SUV's

If I had the cash, I'd rather make that custom 70's Landcruiser throwback Toyota made for show a couple years back. Now that kicked a**!
