Good to know your okay, the media just really wants it to be worse than it really is; a category 1 or 2 is just a nuisance, unless you're prone to flooding. Looks like Florida dodged this one, but now the Carolinas are bracing for this one...Glad I'm going home on Friday!

Hopefully it'll be okay, not Floyd like. We are supposed to head down to the coast tomorrow and get all of our stuff tied down, and then when we get back inland, I have school. Great week, am I right? At least the university will have time to clean up the football field and the local news (see: local) is making sure everyone is aware, but not panicky.

The projected path keeps shifting to the east.. slowly.

Came to post an updated image. Apparently the weather channel image gets updated automatically. Could be very helpful if placed in the OP.

I would advise those with a serious concern for this hurricane to actually view a storm-specific website for the latest information. GTPlanet cannot be and is not the final word on local weather reports!

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/#IRENE

http://www.weather.com/weather/hurr...ression-nine-storm-hurricane-irene_2011-08-20

Warnings and Advisories are updated typically at 5:00 am, 11:00 am, 5:00 pm, and 11:00pm Eastern Standard Time, every day from the National Weather Service, and are the typically most reliable and up-to-date information for storm tracking information. Although if you see things flying in the air that aren't typically airborne...seek shelter!

I linked the picture from the weather channel's website. It's not like I found some random shady site and linked it.

Besides, Hurricane updates are every 3 hours.... not every 6. 2, 5, 8, and 11. AM and PM.

I'm just not expecting others to constantly update our site, that's all...not questioning the validity of it.

Looks like I got lucky leaving America the Monday just gone....

Hope for the best - Prepare for the worst.
This is likely to be a dangerous and costly hurricane, even a historic one.
If any fellow members are in the path of this storm - heads up and please look after yourselves.

CNN is killing itself with stories, etc. That's all their talking about. I mean at first it was Libya then they forgot about it now it's NY and it's flood problem.

Here in North Carolina, it's raining moderately. I have lost much sleep studying so will probably sleep through the beginning of impact tomorrow, but we are at our home farther inland and our yard is filled with stuff from our non-inland home. I better be able to sleep with all this rain.

I'm scared and I live in Canada! But I was still annoyed when the news About it intervened when I was watching the Price is Right.

I slept well. We are getting absolutely pounded, no power, multiple power surges before the final outage. Our 25 foot pine tree snapped like a twig after less than an hour and a half of storm. I think our other 20 foot pine is a goner too. At least it'll pass soon. Stay safe, everyone north of here.

It's amazing what damage a hurricane can do. I was in Antigua last year and we got hit by a category 1. We didn't even get the full storm, it was just the edge of it. Yet there were fallen trees, branches on paths throughout the resort and collapsed fences.

Man I live right in the middle of all of this. They say its going to hit new york directly. Everyone here is really worried about flooding. Police came by our home and told us if you don't leave put a sign with your name on the window so we can identify the bodies. WTF! Is that supposed to calm us down? Stupid NYPD

Stuck in the hotel in Manhattan. All the stores are closed, really weird atmosphere.

Thanks rocko. Still raining, just sitting around doing schoolwork, watching our trees snap. No power still. News radio has reported 3 or 4 dead here in NC.

My mom lives in NYC and she said it is eerie. I guess she can be glad the train isn't going by her apartment at regular intervals.

Yeah, the way my mom described it was the city that never sleeps is finally taking a nap. We can see Times Square from the hotel and it's really quiet, especially for a Saturday. I've been stuck in the hotel all day and if my brother doesn't turn Disney channel off I'm going to snap.
