and they called this a hurricane...over here it's barely wind but a lot of rain.

Thats what im saying, I dont see why this storm is getting so much attention. What is it like category 2, 3 maybe. Where I live we stay home for those hurricanes and we sometimes stay home for weak category 4s.

It's not a big deal to places where we are used to hurricanes, really. It is, however, a big deal to Lower Manhattan, where hundreds of thousands of people live a few inches above sea level and don't understand the severity of a hurricane as I and others do.

Edit: Just arrived at the coast. We lost a bunch of vinyl siding, doors were ripped off hinges, our pumphouse is totally gone. It could be way worse though, no big structural damage.

Wow, we got a lot of rain and some winds but not hurricane force, like 12 or 20 MPH and not even tornados. Storm just passed now, I don't think anyone further North should worry about that (I live 45 minutes North of New York City).

Lucky. We were out for 10 hours, and our family in the northern part of the state is still out, after losing power early yesterday.

Reading fail. My brain somehow computed your post as 3 PM (8 hours) and posted as such. Whoops!

Our power went out around noon yesterday, and its still out.

Mostly wind damage in my neighborhood, we did not get that much rain.

My understanding is that a major transmission line went down and knocked out the power for our town and three other nearby towns as well.

Some areas may not get power restored until tomorrow.

Update:
My power came back at 8pm last night, so we had no power for 32 hours. According to local news, there are still 200,000 people without power in Massachusetts.

Power went out for ten hours yesterday. I've heard of some trees falling in some parking spots from my neighborhood. Apparently my county hired a private company from Wisconsin(ten trucks) to help fix the power issue in my area. I'm not really surprised since places more western than Albany, NY did not get as much damage.

My power had gone out around 8:30pm EST Saturday night and it only came back on just after 2:30pm this afternoon.

Some trees down in my neighborhood and one of the vacant houses had a window blow in.

Got to see some of the aftermath of Irene in the Northeast and it's much worse there with all of the flooding. Pretty lucky that it wasn't that bad here but hopefully the Northeast can get back to normalcy as soon as possible. Lots of cleaning up for them to do over the next months.
