3 deaths in NC and one is VA so far.

The death in VA was a kid that was killed by a tree that fell on the apartment building his family was living in.

Though it's obviously a small concern in the face of the problems and tragedies caused by this storm, it's worth noting that GTPlanet's server is actually located in Manhattan (111 8th Avenue, to be specific - perhaps one of you New Yorkers are familiar with it). Hopefully there will be no Internet service disruptions in the area.

Thanks rocko. Still raining, just sitting around doing schoolwork, watching our trees snap. No power still. News radio has reported 3 or 4 dead here in NC.

We get hit by storms and hurricanes every once in a while since I live in a tropical island (Puerto Rico) part of the USA. I recommend everyone to stay at your homes, never know what the wind could lift and throw at you. Be safe everyone.

Yeah, all of the deaths here in NC are tree collapse related, minus the lady who drove into a ditch resulting from the wet roads. The news said it counted.

We moved all of our trash cans, recycle bins and other things into our basement so they won't become flying debris.

I just saw some pictures from my brother in NC, near Camp Lejeune, and the roads were completely covered with debris, some pretty big trees knocked down and some minor flooding. From what I saw it looked pretty bad but it could have been worse. I have seen worse stuff from non-hurricane storms, granted not as wide spread as this, but maybe his pics didn't show the full magnitude.

Just need to get this out: MY POWER IS BACK ON! :D 27 hours of incessant rain and still pouring.

Now, once you get closer to shore, you have more hardwood trees, so there's less tree damage around the coast. The worst places are Greenville, Washington, Jacksonville (Camp Lejeune), and New Bern. Last check they had there were 217,000 without power here in NC. Electricity is amazing, time to watch the race!

Everyone north of here be sure to hunker down and wait it out, stay safe!

Really heavy rain in Manhattan right now, and the wind is starting to blow. We're in the hotel right now, and we should be safe in there. Everything is closed, really strange.

Really, everything?

I'd go out and check what's open in Brooklyn but my mom probably wouldn't let me.

It has been raining intermittently all day, but now it seems like it is here to stay. They storm is supposed to be over us Sunday morning, so I hope that everyone in the path stays safe tonight and tomorrow.

Not quite, but a lot of places are closed. Mcdonalds, American Eagle, Aeropostale, the list goes on.

It's finally about to pass. It's 60 miles north of Kill Devil Hills, look like its about to pass Elizabeth City. The rain is finally relaxing background noise :).

Agreed. I did a week's worth of homework and a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle today. I was productive, but it was as boring as watching paint dry.

On a serious note, the final death count here in NC seems to be 5.

There was actually tornado warnings about half an hour ago. I believe it touched down in Vineland. This is all driving me crazy haha.

Wow there were tornadoes? I'm about 40 minutes away inland from Vineland, so I don't know if that is good or bad. The winds are supposed to ramp up once the center of the storm passes, so my power might go out due to falling trees. I've got some reading assigned anyway so it might be candles for me.

She's officially arrived here in Central PA...just started loosing my Directv signal :grumpy:. It's been raining steady for the past 2 hours and the sustained winds and gusts are starting to pick up. Kind of exciting as I've never experienced a hurricane before...just hope it doesn't hit too hard. Hopefully everyone in NC, VA, MD, DE, and Jersey are hanging in there. It's gonna be a rough couple days for those who lost power, houses or personal belongings.

Hey I'm being hit by this! :D (Marylander)
My power hasn't gone out a single time and I heard that 67,000 homes / buildings in my county have lost power. If there are that many places in a county. Still rockin' with power! Not that bad of a hurricane. Just raining... a lot. Yip-dee-doo-daa, just chilling. :)

Here's a story my dad had when he was coming home from visiting a friend during the hurricane. On his way home (Already said that...) on some road... highway maybe? He saw a transformer on one of those electric pole thingys with the wires going to the next explode. He said it made an incredibly large spray of sparks that bounced all around the road. And saw (as he was driving) the lights going off one by one down the road. Pretty cool. I wish I was there.

Do hurricanes usually go that far north? I live in the uk so I'm not an expert, but I don't remember hearing about northern states being affected before.

The center is over Northern New Jersey, it is heading NNE. The center will come right over my county and we are getting tornado watches. My phone has an AM/FM Radio to use if we lose power.

Clean up day! Our home where we waited it out is done, the tree that fell (I mentioned it yesterday) actually clipped my house. Now, were on our way to our home on the coast to clean up and pray that there isn't a tree picturing it. 👍 Stay safe everyone, almost no one died (1 person) here if they followed instructions, so just keep your heads about you.
