According to Automotive News, Hyundai is working on a smaller rear-wheel-drive car aimed squarely at the BMW 3 Series. Reportedly dubbed "RK" internally, this new model will not launch until 2015 at the earliest, according to the report.

Details on this new entry-level performance sedan are slim, with Automotive News only reporting that the new model will use a version of the rear-wheel-drive platform that underpins the Genesis Coupe.

In other RWD Hyundai news, AN states that the larger Genesis sedan is still on track for a complete refresh, with the new model expected to arrive by the end of 2013 at the earliest as a 2014 model. As we've reported before, the next-generation Genesis will also likely benefit from optional all-wheel drive. Hyundai's Equus flagship is also scheduled to get a slight refresh in the near term, debuting next summer for the 2014 model year.

Jesus i swear there is no stopping Hyundai/KIA Another RWD lux/sport car to add to they're massive stable.. it's almost mind boggling. ...Also a rumor of a new separate luxury brand has been surfaced.

I'm guess the new brand would have

(new brand)
Equus
Genesis
Genesis coupe
Azera
KIA Quros
.........................
Hyundai
Sonata
Elantra
accent
Santafe
tuscon
.......................

Any thoughts on this?

Well, it seems logical for them to develop a near luxury sports sedan. We'll see how it is, though.

It seems like a logical move to add another brand so as to separate the non-luxury cars from the luxury ones.

I do quite like how they handled the equus, buy and service directly from home approach(including offering a replacement equus or genesis while they service yours, probably why they out sold they're 3000k projection by about 8000+ more. I honestly thought a 65K+ Hyundai would go the way of the phaeton..but nope i was wrong.

I agree, I was quite surprised that it didn't flop like the phaeton. My theory is that it did well because it isn't sporty, rather it's cushy and luxurious. I honestly think that a new lineup would allow them to match European and Japanese luxury carmakers car for car and sell more vehicles. However, the Equus isn't as sporty as the 7 series, S class, or even LS460 F Sport, so it might not do as well in a separate brand. We'll see.

I don't see what they are working on for the "RK" , if they are using the platform from the Genesis coupe they will being using the same engines. They will already have the same engines of the current 3 series.

Translation: "Forget the coupe. We need something that will fit the V8."
