Well at least he admits it...

Seriously, there is no "Master and apprentice" kind of thing about learning cars. You have to teach yourself.

I know the world doesn't really do the master and apprentice thing, but thats how I learn best... I mean common give me a break- I just want someone to talk to about drifting, someone to teach me some stuff about cars you know?

you need a lightweight rear wheel drive car with decent power. From there...find a parking lot and try to make the rear wheels break traction (induce oversteer). This can be done in one of many ways. Check gamefaqs.com for a Gran Turismo 3 Drifting guide. They have decent info on the many ways there are for breaking traction.

Now that you've broken traction, you're gonna start spinning. Try and figure out how to control the car so it doesn't spin but rather stays sideways. It's different for every car and every driver maintains control in a different way. Figure out what you're comfortable with.

Are you serious? I thought the best way to do something was start young? I know what car I Need and I found one- I needed a nissan s14 because it has the best weight distribution for nissans. AKA the nissan 240sx like 1900-1997 something like that, But what I meant what I needed to know- was general stuff- what I should be checking how I should be checking it- performance booster- tips- tricks.. AND I'M NOT TALKING THE VIDEO GAME- and I will start watching initial D since it does have cars in it- and then at least I'll know something about the culture.. But I am so serious about this you guys- I'll stop posting here if you guys won't be helpful- or just a bunch of gamers (no offence I'm a gamer to) :irked: So just say the word,.. I just wanted someone I could run stuff by. BY THE WAY- I'm not a guy so stop calling me one- I'm a girl :banghead: Only reason I checked here because there might be some real life drifters here.. If not- Don't worry- I'm gone

You should know how to drive like a normal person before you start driving like a wannabe boy racer...

You aren't going to learn from watching a cartoon

IIquickIVy0u in drifitng you must learn from your mistakes. You won't never find a wizard that will make you a better drifter.
Firstly you have to watch the drift bible from Keiichi Tsuchiya, and follow his advices.
You must keep in mind that you won't become the drift king tomorrow, you must learn step by step. Improving is the key word here (and practice, lots of practice).

I'm not trying to learn from a cartoon- My friends watch it so might as well... No one seems to be reading what I'm saying!!! HAHA ohy vey.. Ok first off. to be as blunt arrow as I can get- I'm trying to find someone who will teach me a thing or two about cars.. I'm about to buy a $2000 car!!! Am I just suppost to magically find out how to fix my car on the side of the road if it breaks down, Or mystically suppost to figure out how to tweak it if its giving me a hard time.. Do I have to experiment and potentially worsen the problem if it starts smoking or something?? No one understands here- If thats all, then, thats it, just end the thread

all joking aside, try and get a part time job at a garage. They'll teach you about the cars themselves and how to fix them up. Plus this way you'll also have the money needed to patch your car up if anything happens.

For drift techniques and crap, read through this if you can't get the Drift Bible DVD. The most of the same techniques are explained in the guide here but they're not demonstrated:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/gran_turismo_3_drifting.txt

Also, don't start with drifting. Keep that same car and try to learn grip racing at the local track and at local autocross events (cheaper to get into autocross than a track) before you switch over to drifting. It's pointless trying to drift if you don't know your car's limitations and the only way to learn the limits of your car is to go out and drive it.

I am willing to help but you need to ask questions, so far you havent asked any technical questions yet.

I have a alot bit of experience with drifting and Nissans, i used to drift my RPS13 (180sx) but i sold that and bought my R33 Skyline so I dont compete anymore but my friends still do.

So ask away.

BTW welcome to GTPlanet.

Yes the Best Motoring drift bible (as emad pointed out) is a great DVD to teach you techniques, but not great if you dont have the basics of car control (ie how to drive a car)

I've said that you won't become the drift king from a day to another. Don't be so impacient. You must go to a clean car park and start practicing yourself. Step by step. If you're so lucky that you find some drift king to teach you evrything, he'll tell you to practice all you can, and learn from your mistakes.

That's all, if you say again we're not helping you, it means you are not pacient.

Haha, you guys always have to point out the flaws huh?
Its like endless flaming after flaming, You must be patient
for google yahoo and other search engines have the answers,
Iuno- I mean, you would have to guess I've been reading up..
looking stuff up for a long time to resort to a game web site right?
heh.. Ohy vey, some stuff people have said have helped (I already
heard of the drift bible www.driftshowoff.com) And you know - I've been reading up... Hence me knowing what car I needed and finding one with 25k in miles and at a solid price of $1800 (about 2 thou) I'm getting there, Its just I'm looking for people.. You gotta admit sometime that having people to talk to about drift racing is going to help at some point, and it only helps. I'm looking for a solid line of friends who I can talk to personally.. or online on a messenger or something about drifting and of course count on there good word!. gah! And now were getting emotional saying that I am this I am that.. And I've already gone through the first part of trying to learn something new by admiting I'm stupid when it comes to this stuff, thats why I haven't pointed out anything technical because I need to know stuff in general.. Haven't any of you found something out about your car that you wished someone told you about before ? I mean geeze- really though.PS- Did I say anything about a drift king? Quote me plz.

 I havent flamed you, if you want to talk about drift and cars then talk. I dont know your current skills is driving or drifting? I dont know what you want me to say?

What are your plans with this S14? Do you plan a SR20DET (or any other engine )engine conversion or will you leave the KA24DE in it? If so do you plan on turboing it? Does the S14 your looking at have any mods already?

If you think going out and entering drifting competitions with your first car ever is a good idea, then its no wonder you get all this flaming.

And learn how to spell Oy Vey right... Perceived intelligence goes a long way. You're just some 16 year old kid who thinks drifting is cool and wants to go toss around their car with very little knowledge...that wont earn you many points around here.

Go get a real car, learn how to drive a real car for a year or so, then consider finding a junker to throw around the track.

First thing you'll want to do is realize the limitations of this forum. The majority of knowledgeable members on GTP are not drifters. Most of us drag, track or autocross. There are a few smart, knowledgeable guys here who do drift, but there aren’t many of those. I recommend you find a real drift forum.

Second, if you really want to learn how to drift, you need to learn car control. To learn car control, you need seat time. No amount of reading or research is going to teach this to you. That being said, the safest, cheapest, legal way to get seat time is to attend either a performance driving school or to start autocrossing. I recommend both.

Third, do us a favor and keep it off the streets, especially while you are learning. We have at least one member here total his car trying to teach himself. No need for that because sanctioned events are plentiful.

eheh, Like I even said I was going to start drifting yet
still gotta learn about cars first (my initial reason for
comming here) There is alot of flaming thats offencive to
me, If I never told you all I was 16 you never would have
known, most of you are a bunch of jerks that think they
know everything and gotta flame me for everything I DIDN'T
say, worst fourm I've ever been to.. Don't bother posting anymore
disgussion closed. The S14, When I find out from a magazine or book or something, I'll try to find out something that works with it.. as far as I know- there arn't any mods on it at all.. Theres a picture too. But my good friend is pointing out that it is a very good deal just from the picture, he's my only go to person for now the whole reason I asked here was to get some tips.. I even can quote myself- on saying I wanted "tips and tricks" look back- I said it myself. :banghead: Late. ain't comming back.

There's a simple way to tell how old are you. Read one of your posts and then read anyone else's post. You talk like an immature person who obviously hasn't gotten out of high school yet. If you find this offensive, then tough nuggets, its your own fault.

Talk like a mature person and you will be treated with respect. Talk like a 16 year old fanboy who doesn't even own a car, and you get flamed.

And if you have left, then good riddance.

You want a tip? Heres a tip "Practice makes perfect", someone chatting to you over a internet forum cant make you a D1 drifter.

Your not coming back? Fine. If you ever decide to come back change your attitude first.
