I hate Micheal Shumacher!

I can't believe all these people that hold such resentment for heir Schumacher. This guy dedicates his whole life to Formula 1 and how many people do you think would still be watching it if Michael wasn't there? Of course the hardcore F1 fans would, but I'd imagine a huge pecentage of the rest of the TV audiences wouldn't be tuning in every other week in the hope of seeing the Ferrari win or crash out. The time that he's not in the cockpit he's raising money for charity, and I've never seen him use these events for self-publicity, unlike many other celebrities. In my opinion and from what I've heard from his close acquintances, he is a top man, and you can't fault his driving either.

Merry Christmas

I disagree, it's because of MS that so many people are turning over form the F1. It is gettin to a point now thats it not a matter of if he will win, but how.

They tried to solve this by changing the tyres (all tyres must have 3 lines of tread in them, slicks aswell) which would slow down the more powerful engines by giving less grip, but it didn't.

So as i mentioned earlier, if you read it, MS is the problem not the answer

I am not a Schumacher fan, but I have to say this. Michael Schumacher is the best driver in F1 since the death of Ayrton Senna, without question. You may not like all his methods, and may get frustrated at his dominance over the last 10 years, but there can be little argument about it.

If people turn off watching F1 because one man dominates then most of them are not true motorsport fans anyway. As I said I don't like Schumacher, but I enjoy watching him - the master of the art. Watch and savour, because we might not see anyone of this class for a while after he retires. Is it really a problem?

So why am I not a fan? Well as ExigeExcel said it's because of his deliberate ramming of Villeneuve in Japan '97 and of Hill in Oz '94. And the fact that he crusades for safety but sees no problem when he drives people off the road at 200mph (Alonso, GB '03).

Oh, and by the way, grooved tires were not introduced to stop Schumacher winning, or to make the more powerful engines less of an advantage. It was to reduce cornering speeds. And it came in after two successive Williams World Champions.

There are too many artifical things in F1 these days, pit-stops, single lap qualifying, traction and launch control, pace cars etc. Lets keep the sport as close to its roots as possible and not mess it up more by trying to stop the best driver winning races.

Ok Im just on here to say I also hate Michael................Thank You!
I started a thread just like this once and got bashed like I dont know what.

people that dont like MS dont like him because he wins alot just like people that dident like Dale Sr. dident like him in nascar because he won many races and btw im one of MS's biggest fans:)

And whose fault is that?

now that is some to discuss.
You can't blame the man for being so good hardly anyone can compete aganist him. But it is up to him if he wants to have a rest year and give everyone else a chance. He already has won a record amount of seasons, what more is there to do.

But that would completely devalue anyone else's success. Everyone competing in F1 wants to beat him because he's the best.

He should continue for as long as he enjoys it. Look at other previous champions and see how the fight went out of them: Hakkinen, Hill, Patrese, Villeneuve (and Makinen in Rallying). It's only right that a driver still on form and enjoying what he does should continue. The second he stops enjoying it, he should quit - even if that's mid-season, as Lauda did one year (1983?)

I hate repeating myself.
No-one in sporting history i believe has been as succesful as MS. And i applaud him for that. but because of that no-one knows how to handle him. No-one knows how to handle some-opne like him, some-one who wins everything, and nobody else does. The problem is he is killing the sport
It is a proven fact, many people will argue against it, but F1 is losing its viewers because its getting to dam predictable.
And I know getting him to miss a year is bad for him, but is also risky again, do they risk losing the diehards fans, or do they try to pull back the casual viewers.

One the contrary. The likes of Montoya, Raikkonen and Alonso have all shown that they know how to deal with him. This is why the 2003 viewing figures show an upturn from 2002.

The stewards need to be extremely careful that they don't stifle the sport though, because their judgements on overtaking-related manoevres are not what they should be. For example, Montoya was censured for his move on Barrichello at Indy (erroneously in my opinion), but Schumacher was not censured for running Alonso off the road at Silverstone.

The rest of it is just the natural ebb and flow of motor racing.

Yeah but none of them have so far come near to beating him in the overall championship title. Yeah they all put up a good fight every few races, but none have really challenged.

But i would support you on the fact that viewings rose last year, but that was only because of the plucky fight montoya put up.

hopefully in years to come Montoya will start to revive the success of williams in '97 with Jack villeneuve

um the championship came down to the final race. Kimi lost the title by 2 points. at one stage there were 4 SERIOUS contenders. After the hungarian grand prix, the 4th last round, the top 3 drivers were seperated by a point each

and no one has come near to beating him in the overall championship title? look at the final points tally ExigeExcel

Well, I think that the closeness of the final standings is entirely due to the almost supernatural reliability of anything that doesn't have a Jaguar or Honda badge on it. Michael Schumacher did win six races this year (Montoya 2, Ralf 2, Rubens 2, D.C. 1, Raikkonen 1, Fisi 1, Alonso 1), so appears to have been dominant, but both Raikkonen and Montoya put up massive runs of consecutive podiums, to keep themselves in the title hunt.

I wonder what the championship outcome might have been had McLaren or Williams been on Bridgestones.

I think the popularity of Formula 1 is far exaggerated by people like our Bernie. I've travelled a bit, and out of all the people I've ever met, only a handful have the slightest interest in F1. Okay, so everybody knows who Michael Schumacher is, but that doesn't mean that everybody is going to drop everthing and watch two hours of car racing on a Sunday. Hell, I wish everybody I'd met was interested in F1, but sadly it doesn't appear to be the case. Even back in England, not one of my friends would watch an F1 race, unless it happened to be on when the goggle-box was on.

do i hate Ms?
answer : No!!!
he is a great driver....
i dont care if he winns all the time...
but he is damn good!!
he is my favourite F1 driver

so tell me this Exige, if you were the best driver in F1 and you had the chance to set a record that could not be broken would you just up and stop racing to let every one else win and take your spot in the record books?

But he already has entered the record books. I do believe he ahs recorded the most F1 championship ever. So im sure missing one year wont do much damage. I doubt his record will be broken for at least another decade.

There are at least 2 records he hasnt broken, 1 is within his reach while the other no-one will get near:
Most pole positions, the great Ayrton Senna still holds that one
Sir Jack Brabham winning the constuctors and drivers championships in the same year (1966)

well i can tell ya one thing, i sure would just up and stop racing if i was still winning just because someone said i was ruining the sport by beating thier faverit driver

i dont think there is anything wrong with be succesfull (pardon my spelling if i got that wrong)

PS. and you cant say that the championship wasent close!

Point being, the 2003 season was kick-ass.

Yes I agree. But Micheal Schumacher is my favourte driver because he knows how to drive. Physically and mentally. Another reason why he won so much was because FIA didn't get off thier fat a**ess to change the rules untill last season. Which I admit was a cliff hanger.
