After scratching the surface I'll give it an 8/10, and recommend it for those still sitting on the fence.
Same here. Despite the flaws, it's a great game. Had some really nice online laps on Spa and the Nordschleife with mr_V and Hyper yesterday. Online is a very solid experience IMO, and if you steer clear of certain cars until a patch arrives, it's really great. 👍

I just got Shift today, about to go and play it now. I also bought a PS3 headset for the voice chat compatibility.:) I'll be back to tell you what I thought of it.

Glad i didnt buy it, rent was perfect for me, enjoyed it at first, but the more i play it the more the flaws become apparant and more annoying..

I have one question which I have not seen asked anywhere... maybe I missed it... WHY CANT I LOOK LEFT OR RIGHT WITH MY STEERING WHEEL!?!?!? Sorry for the caps... but this is the only thing which really gets to me... How could they forget to map buttons for looking left and right in the cockpit?!?! on the 6axis its one of the analog sticks... which I dont have on my DFP...

+10000000

Once I hit Tier 3, the physics and AI (medium) took a turn for the worst and it started to piss me off.

I bought it, I think it's not bad. In a way i'm a bit disappointed with it, I thought it'd be more realistic than it is. I can still throw the car into the corner and still pull out of it no trouble at all. It still feels waaaaaaay too arcadey for me. Racing online with Aussienicko as well was disappointing for me. It is nearly impossible to race close without contact due to the cars being so unpredictable like in all NFS games.

I think this game is good "fun", but if you want something realistic, don't bother with this Shift.;)
7/10 in my opinion.

Bought it and sold it off after 1 day. Still managed to get a decent price off it. Reason? I downloaded the PC demo and was shocked at how much better it looked and played on the PC.

So I sold it and got a PC copy, which was somehow cheaper than a PS3 version. Never getting cross platform games again for the PS3, somehow, they always get the worst of the bunch.

Its quite sad that PS3 owners can only hope to see the full potential of the PS3 being used in exclusives like GT5 or MGS.

So far, the online games I played with several people went smooth as silk; not a glitch in sight, no erratic cars, and close racing is definitely possible. There is the occasional framedrop, but those occur in single player as well, so they're probably not online issues.

Bought it last night, played a few hours.

I'm not sorry I bought it, because it has the Nordscheife and a few other nice things (most of all the wheel feedback concerning bumps and track elevations).

However, for a more "raw" and authentic racing experience, I think I'll get myself SCC (didn't like the beta, but everyone in my friends list says the beta was total rubbish compared with the final build).

Wow I just had the best race I think I've ever been in Online. It all came down to a last-corner pass at the Nurburgring (Full Course). The guy ahead of me kept blocking me and the other 2 drivers the whole race and if one of us got around him, he would just punt us out of the way. He was in a modded Shelby GT500 and I was driving my 911 GT2. I had a chance to get past him on the Dottinger Hohe Straight but every time I started to catch him I would have to back out of it before I hit him or I was run off the road. Finally, At the last corner I had enough, he went low and I pulled along side and slid through the grass around him

There he is, leading the whole race, now comes the last corner and you pass him driving on the grass. Sounds like something I would've dones back in the day of GT2. 👍 I bet he was pissed.

Hi Hun... my advice would be to stick with it. I didn't really get it to begin with, but 2-3 days in (c.8 hours of play) it is VERY enjoyable... the tier 3 cars are pretty quick and are great fun to drive at the 'Ring.

Hi Stotty :)

Yeah, I'll stick with it for the time being but my experience last night was a bit dissapointing. I wrote this in a skype chat I have with a few online "racing buddies", perhaps it explains better what I think:

Got myself NFS:Shift
[10:43:32] Played for a couple of hours last night
[10:44:07] Bought a car (Renault Megane) and went for the ring in time attack.
[10:44:27] After three laps I was up to level 10 (chuckle)
[10:44:50] Still not did one single race, I find that funny.
[10:45:36] Anyway, first impressions:
[10:46:02] Playing shift after one week of V8 Superstars is odd.
[10:47:29] V8 Superstars is the simulation of a championship series. All real tracks, tyre wear, events that need practise to tune the car (for quali and race, for dry and wet), then quali, then race.
[10:49:59] Very "spartan", a serious try to replicate an actual racing series. Much like the motoGP games (or SBK), or in a different degree FC and SCC (real tracks and the simulation of the "racing" experience).
[10:50:14] No other distracting .............
[10:50:42] Shift has nothing to do with this, as far as I'm aware.
[10:50:56] It's meant to be fun.
[10:51:41] Not my cup of tea, but here goes:
[10:52:37] 1. Graphics - better than FC/ worse than GT5P. A bit saturated but overall good.
[10:56:32] 2. Physics - hit and miss. wheel feedback, apart from the annoying deadzone, is very good (bumps, track elevations, wheels locking under braking, you can feel all that). But overall, the car behaviour is odd, bordering unreal. I'm already setting the car to 70% understeer / 30% oversteer (mind you I shouldn't need to do this, it's a freaking FWD) and I'm still getting ridiculous amounts of oversteer.
[10:57:38] It must be said that I'm still unable to buy the upgrade that will allow me to change the brake balance (this is stupid), I hope when I can do it things will improve ...
[10:59:23] 3. Track recreation - I think the NS is a bit too colourful, and some billboards shouldn't be there. However, the track itself, to the best of my knowledge, is well recreated, and feeling those bumps in a credible way make it a nice ride.
[11:00:09] 4. Sound - Very good, even if I'm driving a crappy car.
[11:02:57] 5. NFS gymmicks around the driving itself (points, bars, messages, level ups, etc.) - It's annoying as hell but after a while you order your mind to stop noticing it completely. I'm not at all used to this kind of **** (be it in GT or FC or even V8) and frankly I don't like it. But hey, I need reminding that finally I bought a NEED FOR SPEED game. Yay!
[11:03:11] That's all, end of spam!

Unfortunately, the more you play, the more you realise that, in spite of the great FFB, visuals & sound, the actual physics are way too forgiving. :indiff:

Agreed... it is too easy especially as everyone seems to be fixated on 'Works' upgrades with loads of downforce and super sticky tyres.

There's probably a combination of tier of car and tyre choice that will keep the challenge a bit higher... best I found to date was the Porsche GT2 with exhaust and brake upgrade (but no tyres of engine upgrades)... you actually have to be careful with the throttle or it will spin.

It's a lot cheaper and easier to develop on a PC than it is on a console.

Thats something to keep in mind when organizing events... What tier the cars are and what level theyre at... for more of a challenge I agree using lower ranked cars is better...

Just traded in my X360 version for the PS3 version and I have to say it's like a completely different game. I had loads of issues with the MS wheel and Logitech DriveFX - straight line stability, imprecise inputs, lag, weak ffb, on/off pedals etc... all gone now (using the DFP).

Looking forward to starting fresh. Did notice some framerate issues though... hope they're not common.

I just got the game only played about 1 hour.

So far not overly impressed maybe i got into the hype, and of course i shall give it more time but first impresions for me are not very good.

I almost got blow out of my living room when it finished the instalation lol.

I really hope they dont start a new trend that every game has to put its sound output higher than its compititors. Its like watching a TV program , and then when the comercials start it goes to about double the level of the actual Tv program i really dont like that. ( My sound goes through and old stereo amplifyer with no remote control, so I have to go and re adjust the sound level to about half of what it uasely is just to play shift )

Also I havent played much but so far the physics dosent seem to be no where as good as eather GT5P or FC.

It is very different to those two, which in themselves are very different from each other.

I just jumped in to a DB9 at London from my Scirocco. Big mistake! :D Finished 13th...

Is that the invitational race? I tried that one last night and thought it was a nightmare... too fast in to turn 1 and you're in to the wall, slightly too slow and you get punted off the track by the AI.

That's the one. The first corner was mental. Picked up about 800 aggression points in the first set of corners.

+1

The AI is way to agressive at times, it makes fun racing most of the time but they do not give up there line even if that means you both will be crashing ... sorta like driving around 15 '2002 - juan pablo montoya's'.

Also the AI will make a lot of mistakes in the last couple of corners of an race allowing you to make it a close call.

Also had numerous crashes because of AI spinning of and coming back on track without waiting for everyone to pass.

i'm up to driver level 26 after putting in a good amount of hours this weekend. One thing i have come to realize is the game is not realistic, but it is still challenging with pro physics etc. which makes it fun. It's still very arcadey and the cars are floaty, This improves a LOT with the higher modified and set-up cars. I just bought the Pagani Zonda R and WOW! i ripped Laguna Seca a new one very fun. When i have the need for realism i'll jump on Live for Speed or turn to GT5p but for some fun moments NFS Shift is entertaining.

Main complaints are
-Shifting is too slow, the delay in the clutch/shifting is brutal
-Throttle response is not immediate, the delay in that is Brutal as well
-No tunning option Between Races in a Series :ill:

I'm enjoying it, i have the bonnet view most of the time and the movement of the bonnet and the sound really gives the impression of speed. By the way I just went on GT5:P and driving the GTR at Fuji, on the home stretch appeared slow after NFS:Shift, and I mean really slow.

Another "thing" I've noticed with Shift is it is quite realistic at what it's primary intentions seem to be and that's a driver to racetrack correlation. The sense of speed is pretty much unlike anything I've played on a console and while the overall physics may be dodgy it has immense potential to be more of a simulation than it is now.

As I said if the decision goes down to tweak Shift and release a second iteration with more of a focus-based hardcore persona both Forza and GT will have something to look at as competition because to tell the truth it might do some things that aren't as defined or may feel as realistic but it definitely does some things better than both ever have.

What needs to happen next is NFS Hot Pursuit 3/Most Wanted 2 with an improved version of Shift's handling model. Only this time, without trying to make it into an Fast & Furious knock-off (Undercover).

Also, upto now, I've had no problem with the online aspect. It's a lot faster to load than GTP:.....I really hope PD can improve the current online saga in GT5( am I allowed to say that in a NFS:Shift forum )?:)
