I would like to race against my dad online. I am east coast, he is Midwest. I have PS5, he has PS4. We both paid $70 for the game and can’t figure it out. I can’t even find a place to look for friends. Can anyone offer guidance/advice?

You need:

  • Separate PlayStation Network accounts
  • An active PlayStation Plus subscription on each account
  • To both have completed Menu Book 9 in your Gran Turismo Cafe single player mode

Then you'll be able to access the multiplayer section and can create a lobby at any track that you have unlocked and can race with anyone.

These 2 make me gnash my teeth.
'Bout to get the wife set up to play GT7 here and discovered Sony does not offer a workable "Family Plan" across multiple consoles. :grumpy::banghead:

So once we’ve accomplished that and made a room- how do we friend each other on the game?

You don't actually need to be friends, though if you do set it as "Friends Only" (which is wise!) it's your PlayStation Network Friends that can see the room.

It is doable if it's one PS4 and one PS5...
Yup. Read that

Don't have a PS4. Reckon we'll just have to fess up the cash for another PS+ sub. 💵💲💰💸 for Sony.

Before you create the online lobby have a read through this page. Then do like Famine mentioned and set your lobby for Friends Only. You can also limit the GT7 lobby participants, although I'm not certain what the least number is there. Famine probably knows.

PS5 a: primary console of PSN a, but used by PSN b
PS5 b: the console that PSN a is sitting at
PS4: primary console of PSN a, but used by PSN c

That would be 3 consoles with a single PS+ and game purchase IF that game can be run on both generations, is compatible between both (and is a single purchase for both).
