i think i killed a Skyline

well earlier today on my way home from work i was racing this skyline GTR through town and when the road finally opened up onto a motorway we both booted it and for about five minutes it was a straight blast down the road but when i saw the traffic getting heavier up ahead i slowed down and started braking, allowing the skyline to catch up. i then pulled over into the middle lane alowing him to overtake me and just as it did, he must of put his foot down again because i heard the dump valve go but nothing happened. instead there was this really loud bang and a big load of black thick smoke coming from the exhaust. the engine must of died because he was slowing down a lot and as i passed him, i saw in my mirror him pull across into the hard shoulder and come to a stop. if it wasn't on a motorway i would of pulled over to see if he was ok but i was soon quite a distance ahead of him. well just wondering if any of you guys know what could of happened, i dont think it was even that old, a V plate which i think is 1999 but not to sure, so if anybody has any idea please reply.
 
he blew up his motor pushing too much boost like an idiot.

he pushed his boost past where its limit was, he was trying to show off to you while passing, and boosted too high, and it blew. he is majorly screwed, thousands of dollars in repairs.

he needs a whole new engine probably

yea i race my neighbors R34 once out in the country side....I was driving my brothers s14 SR20 yea i lost butta i use 80lbs of Nitruois and still lost?? butta imma retry him again i want to rechallenge him but hes never home he go visit Japan a lot?? this time imma try to race him with my 97 Honda Civic Cpe?? The car is pushing over 400 horsepower it is a B20 VTEC with 80 lbs of NITROUIOS?? Hopefully i win??

For one, talk right. He probably beat you even though you had nitrous because you cant drive. Anyway, skylines arent that fast. Some people on this board say it is a little heavy and slow (forgot what the thread name was). Snoopy, you saw that thread right?

damn i feel sorry for that guy if his engine really did blow, how much do you think a replacement one would cost? and to be honest i have to agree with Frustrated Palm, the skyline wasn't really that fast in a straight line, infact it was quite a distance behind on the motorway but round the bends through town it was going some and i was struggling to keep up with it. well what my car lacks in handling it makes up for in brute force and speed :lol:

You must have been able to waste him on the straights though, with your 400 something bhp. Unless he was driving a modded skyline, which he probably wasn't anyway.

What was it an R33 or R34?

who would of thought a TVR would come out on top against a nissan for reliabilty :P i think it was unmodded but it had a dump valve so they do come with them as standard? and i also think it was an R34
 
I don't think Skylines have BOV's as standard (you're talking about the thing that goes 'pish' right?) I mean i've seen quite a few stock skylines that don't make that noise (well you don't see a skyline for long, especially if youre driving a 1.6 MKIII escort). So I assume it's not standard.

oh yeh i saw that they were tryig to beat the world caravan speed record, damn these japanese cars arent having a good day. did you see the one with the Alpina Z8? if so how well did it do
 
Hahaha, are you sure the Skyline wasn't towing a caravan. :lol:

They totally slated the Alpina Z8, well Jezza did anyway. Then the stig took it to the track and did quite well with it, although they were expecting it to do crap.

Mind you I suppose the evo's 2000cc engine that makes 700bhp would be under quite allot of stress.
 
thats a shame they slated it, i was lucky to have a ride in one about six months ago on a trip to germany. great car so powerful and smooth but really refined, i wish my TVR was even half as refined as the Z8... wait what am i saying? a refined TVR thats just as bad as asking for it to start everyday :lol:
 
In an Issue of EuroTuner they had a Cerebra that was tuned pretty well and Carismo did alot with the Interior and it was even hooked up with Nitrous. One thing cought my eye. No seatbelts :lol:...
 
i think i've seen that already and it is pretty nice but i think i will leave my cerbera as it is, i should have some pics of it soon once i actually get a digital camera so watch this space...
 
I've only ever seen pics of one tuned Cerbera ever. It looked arse ugly with some horrible bodykit and it had that funny reflex paint that the tuscan and the speed 12 has. It looked horrible, they ruined a completely nice british musclecar (I suppose that's what TVR's are) and made it look like some Fast and furious reject. Oh and it had nitrous as well, so it might be the same car.

The Alpina Z8 is odd, in that it's £20k more expensive, but actually LESS powerful than the stock car. Clarkson only praised it in that it had become a more focussed car - an LA beach cruiser - than the Jack-of-all-Trades-master-of-none BMW Z8.

Some folk could do with remembering "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Mind you, that may still exclude a Cerbera... :D BTW if yours is green, there's a vague possibility I was stuck on the M25, just past the M4 clockwise, in a 7 mile traffic jam behind you... I rolled down the leccy windows and turned the engine off to listen! :D

V was 1 September 1999 to 29 February 2000 - so, model year '00.
