I beg your pardon!
I just read the post that IBTL must die. That thread is locked so I guess I missed the opportunity to ask this question about the subject. Exactly what on earth are you talking about.

In Before the lock? You certainly cannot post in a thread that is locked so any posting or reply would have to come before the lock. Are you saying no one should be posting?

As a newbie to GT and this forum I am at a loss as to exactly what you are saying should die.

Can someone explain what IBTL is and why the moderators are so dead set against it?

Thanks

It's when a thread is doomed to be locked either because it's irrelevant or posting information that is old news already. Guys will often say "In before the lock" just to spam the thread to get post count up, or just be plain dumb.

Lets say this thread is about to get locked
and everyone knows it
Then I post something crazy or something like in before lock.. before it gets locked

.. I guess lol

Yeah, I used to do that as a way to make a point to the original poster as a way of saying "Listen, you posted a dumb or offensive thread. We all know you are going to get locked. It's obvious." I was away for a bit when the new rule was implemented so I accidentally did it once after the fact as I didn't know about it. >_<;

"inb4thelock" posts are useless as they are considered as spam which can make GTP boards look messy.
Also, we (people on GTP) are mostly 20-30 years old and they don't get retarded "jokes" too well.

Ok, I can understand what you are saying, but lets look at from another point of view, mainly from someone who does not have ESP.

I have read a lot of posts on this board that were started over a year ago and have been thoroughly hashed and rehashed until there really isn't any thing left to say, yet they remain open. It seems to me that there is a lot of left open opportunities for IBTLing. I would guess that they ar about to be "locked" (because they should have been years ago), but I would be wrong.

And who really cares if someone puts a little jab into a post that is about to be locked anyway? Are there really people out there that are bowing to those that have a zillion posts to there credit? Those that believe just because a guy has 4089 posts that he must be a GT god and has to be reveered as an expert? If there are people like that then they deserve to be dupped into believing. Just my HO.

I read a warning from a moderator about using derogatory slang expressions about different nationalities. This is the kind of thing moderators need to be concerned about. I applaud them in this effort. But to chide and post that an arbitrary post, by someone who may or may not know the post will soon be closed, shouldn't have been made seems just a little petty to me.

IBTL is just useless.
Imagine this: you're some thug and a police officer is about to arrest you, and then I say "inb4thejail" - retarded, immature and useless.

Ok, so now I am getting a clearer picture. It is not that someone is posting into a thread that is about to be locked, but they are actually posting "inb4thelock" or some such itteration of it.

Correct?

Ok Moderators, you can lock this thread now.

(shhhhhh, lets see who IBTL's this)

IBTL posts are like throwing rotten eggs at defendants on their way to the courthouse. Okay in the Middle Ages, but not here. They proclaim a person guilty of creating a useless thread before the final judgement, and are quite annoying for the magistrates (that's us) to wade through when performing clean up duties. Especially since some people have made millions of them.

Locked at threadstarter's request.
