PD IS NEGLECTFUL AND TONE DEAF

Why does PD ignore its fans?

  • Because they want you to feel addicted to the chance of winning a large prize.

So we get given bonus prizes for doing exactly what we would be doing anyway, but the bonus isn't....bonusy enough, so we cry about it. Is that what we are doing?

Dont get me wrong, some of the choices in the game are odd at best, but to gripe about EXTRA things makes no sense.

Think of it this way, if the daily milage tickets straight up didn't exist, nobody would be complaining. What you won in races is what you get. Perfectly fair and logical. But as soon as you get given something for nothing, suddenly all you hear is 'omg, 5000 is an insult!' and 'its so unfair, all I get is brakes!'

I think PD has a culture where Kaz is the only one who is allowed to make design decisions. He seems to live in his own little bubble and ignores all the feedback from fans. And when once every few years outsiders are allowed to actually interview him for a few minutes, they only ask very polite questions and don't confront him with critique.

I just hope T10 Studios will show PD how it's done with the next Forza Motorsports game.
The problem is T10 can keep showing PD how's done and still most home console gamers around the planet wouldn't care, Forza with all its great reviews (especially here in the U.S.) and everything, can't hold a candle to the GT franchise. Like I said before, most gamers around the globe prefer GT over Forza and same goes for the platforms on which each game is playable. Lowest selling GT entry has sold more than the highest from Forza.

It insults intelligence having a random prize wheel that 99% of the time isn't random at all.

If I didn't want credits and cars, I wouldn't go through the prize ticket charade at all.

The special tune parts are the least of the problems. Lmfao. If they were easy to get they wouldn't be so special then would they? Wow.

This is the state of AAA at the moment. Low effort rehashing.

And these special parts have little value with the lobbies being ghost towns. These parts are just for bragging rights. As has been the issue since GTS, you can't use these cars anywhere.

You can see that they have laid the foundation for multiplayer versions of the single player races with the "meeting places" but that feature is probably the least used. I have only seen people in these rooms on a handful of occasions. It can't be THAT HARD to implement. It's literally like a Sport Mode race.

There's no sense in complaining. It's a dev team full of artists with a handful of coders and designers, and no desire to add features that require code or design effort. Maybe in GT10....assuming there are still cars, with combustion engines, by then

Why folks keep bringing MTX into it?, no one is forced to buy it.
MTX's are a different (albeit connected) mechanic that aren't directly connected to the speical parts as you cannot purchase any MTX that grants you access to a ticket or to special parts directly. However, the special parts do somewhat cpaitalise on FOMO (along with the invitations) and the FOMO and MTX's mechnics are built pretty firmly into GT7's economy and game structure and are tied quite heavily together, which is evident throughout the game.

To adress your comment that no one is forced to buy it, no they aren't, but just beucase that is true that doesn't make it a good mechanic and it doesn't mean players who aren't buying MTX's aren't affected by the games economy and model nudging people towards them.

I've read studies on this and developed my own mobile game in the past, I opted out of F2P and P2W models simply because I was making a game because I wanted to see if I could, not because I had expectations of making money from it. I made some, not nearly as much as I make in my full time job. But to cut short, I know the models that capitalise on whales, how they structure the pricing to maximise profit from those people, how some people become addiicted to these mechnics and how some peoples mental heal suffers due to interaction with this mechanic. There's a study on that issue in Issues in Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in 2020 or 2021 that really broke into the problems these features can cause and the impact they can have ona person mentally and socially and how they can attach to a person in a similar way gambling habits can.

So the mechanic of MTX's itself is causing a stir and there are recognised ways in which it impacts people negatively much like there are with gambling and other addictions. That's not to say it impacts everyone negatively, just as there are people who don't gamble, there are people who won't ever feel like they need to pay for an MTX. Just as there are people who may gamble occasionally for entertainment but don't get addicted, there are people who will occasionally purchase the odd MTX but don't spend much or money they can't afford. Then there are people who spend money they can't really afford to spend on MTX's much like there are some people who do with gambling. Then you have the whales, these represent a very small number of players but they spend well in excess of 90% of the revenue generated through MTX's.

Now MTX's aren't involved in obtaiing the special parts, however FOMO is, and MTX's and FOMO are pretty tightly connected in GT7 as mechnic to drive the economoy of the game. You see you can only obtian the special parts from tickets and you can only obtain the tickets by completing menu books where you obtain a ticket once or through the daily marathon. This drives people to log in daily just to complete the daily marathon (as the career is very short so cannot be relied on for long), just in case they win an invitation or part they want or a decent credit reward, it's almost like an addicition. It's the fear of missing out and it's driven through stingyness in the game. The invitations are rare and can only be won in the same way, there are people who have never had an invitation for a certain brand after owning the game for months.

The special parts are purposefully elusive and also promote logging in each day just to complete the daily marathon. Most higher paying prizes are one time only and the repeatable events that pay higher amounts are few in number with the rest of the game paying lower amounts. The cost of cars grows exponentially and the LCD cars which are also elusive have a trend to increase in price every quarter. Chuck in those also elusive invitations to buy other expensive cars fron Brand Central and you' might be seeing a pattern here, things in GT7 are elusive and expensive. It's trademark FOMO.

FOMO ties in heavily to MTX's when it comes to earning credits in the game, the tickets don't often reward more than a nominal sum of Cr that don't really help you in any meaningful way, but that prospect of wining 500k or 1m for a daily marathon crops up. But you rarely win those. So when that car you've been waiting 3 months for to appear in the LCD finally appears but you can't afford it, what is the game nudging you towards? MTX's of course. That doesn't mean you will buy them or have to, but it's all there to nudge people towards them.

You have the UCD where cars can be gone for weeks, you have the invittions you can only win, the LCD cars all encouraging MTX's. Not just that the scarcity of high paying events beyond those that are one time onlly also pushes towards MTX's. Some people who don't mind the grind and never buy MTX's might not see this, but it absolutely is there. And if it weren't there the game would most certainly be better for it. There would be no reason for the LCD cars to be as elusive as they are, no reason for as many one time rewards and no reason for there to be so few races.

I understand why developers economise MTX's, in many cases they are literally getting money for nothing. There's a misconception that removing MTX's is simply removing choice, but what many people don't understand is that the game is built with MTX's in mind and therefore the structure and economy of the game is heavily influenced by them. If you don't design a game around MTX's you tend to have a more fun and engaging experience where you can reach your goals quicker and without relying on luck.

And there you have it, MTX's are not directly responsible for the special parts being locked behind tickets but FOMO is a pretty big part of it. And MTX's and FOMO go pretty well hand in hand. It's not a great approach for the consumer but the publishers make a killing from it because there are plenty of people (including on here) who will end up paying far more than the game cost at full price (some players have spent literally hundereds of thousands on a single game).

If the parts were truly special then they should be awarded for merit or effort. Not random chance.

Randomly winning a carbon propshaft for a Prius doesn't feel great.
Also it's been proven by looking at the code that the higher your collector leve ( even beyond 50) l the more level 4 5 and 6 tickets you get .
You still only get one ticket a day.

If they wanted to profit from MTX they would make roulette tickets purchasable-

And, alot of us would do it. 🤣

Then it would be deemed gambling or something and illegal in some countries, like gta went thru with their wheel and casino- they would have to limit it some way. And just like scratch offs, you would spend more time losing than winning.

The sad truth is there's really only a handfull of good components anyways, its only a few ultra turbos, 2 dozen sets of rods, cams, bore and stroke ups, and a garbage bag full of carbon shafts that are the only items we want to buy, besides the obvious swaps.

In their defense, you have alot more chances to get a swap than what we had in march. But we all know you're still gonna get duplicates.

In real life there is no merit to getting rare parts for 99% of cars , just networking , any one who says otherwise is a liar. There is a difference between expensive parts and rare parts. I don't want GT to make me network so the next best thing is a random chance to obtain it . Again this issue is solved by making the parts universal. You earn a universal ultra high turbo . Instead polyphony made them car specific which is dumb.
This also sets the perfect foundation up to have a online UCD . Sell that rare car with the special parts for big bucks.
All I can say is pd likes to half bake features that could be amazing but end up pissing people off.
What upsets me is people buy every single part and we have identical builds in a lobby , even tunes are copied from forums .

As opposed to, I don't know, a legendary parts shop that unlocks at a certain collector's level (representing your developing relationship with various manufacturers in the game) that stocks a rotating selection of parts that aren't available in normal tuning shop tabs?

Legendary Cars are special. They have their own shop. They're not even in the roulette wheels. Why not treat S parts the same if they're so rare and special that you'd have to "network" in real life to get them? Nevermind the fact that you can just order a carbon fiber driveshaft online and have it shipped to you in a matter of days.

You know, something. Something that doesn't rely entirely on random chance.

You know if it was a rotating selection, people would be bitching about the rotation schedule just like they do with the LCD, and complaining about the super-high prices as just another "FOMO and MTX" driver.

None of the responses in the poll are correct, PD have very deliberatly designed the game this way and the whole thing is built on pushing MTX's through FOMO. Although the special parts can only be won by chance from the tickets they are a reflection of all the other design choices in the game that nudge inclined players to MTX's through FOMO.
good thing I'm immune to fomo and have a massive aversion to spending actual moneydollars on digital "assets" I'll never actually own.

Yeah. Ideally, all tuning parts should be purchasable at anytime by anyone. But it's PD. Their business model right now is just FOMO.

Would still be better than the current roulette system. At least this way, PD could drive people to whip out their credit cards for a set of titanium pistons. Gotta support this small indie company somehow, no?

Wait till the Granturismo NFTs come out. :scared:
I'm genuinely surprised they haven't crammed NFTs into this thing. Yet.

As a gamer, I don't really care about which franchise has the highest sales numbers. T10 seems to have been very successful as a business and they're still in business. Although, an unusually long time has passed since their last Forza Motorsports game - maybe due to the transition to the new console generation as well as Covid? FM always felt really good to play with a controller, and the cars felt more realistic than in GT. But FM has 2 really big weaknesses compared to GT:

  • Weak competitive multiplayer mode.
  • Bad wheel support.

I think if the next FM game has a good multiplayer mode, good wheel/FFB support, isn't filled with disgusting micro-transaction features, and continues building on its strengths it could be a very good game. I'm a bit worried about T10 and their next FM though because very little information about the game has been shared, and it supposed to get released this spring. 🤞

Now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever clicked on any meeting place button. I thought it was like a free lobby for the track where you can just drive whatever?

Good post and a subject I was intersted in a month orcso back as embarrassingly shamefully went crazy with mtx in fifa 23. Never spent on games at all before that.

Recall reading companies mainly look to hook in 'whales ' big spenders versus person who spends an extra £10 or so each year. And that a % do actualky soend 100's, and 1000s on mtx, believe or not... and thats where their focus is. Although not sure that's always the model, as surely people don't spend thousands on cod each year, pn blueprints and skins?

In fifa ultimate team, you can see how entire gane is built around drawing people in, spending and playing nothing ekse. Non stop objectives, content and the power curve is constantly in motion. So everyone starts with 80 to mid 80s teams, 2 months in bar is raised to say 84 to to 87. Constant influx of new cards. Unless you play for hours and hours each day, or get extremely fortunate with players in packs (loot boxes) you either grind or splash put real money.i recall the feeling/carrot being dangled of skightky better new players being released and urgency to have them. And it became all encompassing/consuming, it was just non stop 'if I sign him it will finally all come together'. But it's an illusion anyway, as having a better team may get you an extra couple of wins every 15 games, but generally better player comes out on top.

I last played fifa ultimate team in 2011ish and its eye opening how much effort, gocimus they've put into that part of the game and I imagine have experts who know precisely how to setup the whole thing to draw players in. It's amazing how many people love/hate the game (ultimate team mode anyway) at same time. Alluding to being captive to it, almost like tgey have no choice. 'Funny' thing reading forums is how people acknowledge it and how p1ssed off they are with the game and buying mtx, as they can't stand its blatant structure, but then mention they've been playing it relentlessly since 2014 and can't see that changing any time soon.

Iirc it was banned in maybe Holland and elsewhere due to the lootbox/gambling dynamic. Yiu ciykd say people are weak, but it quite clearly really gets its hooks into some.

Fortunately the money I spent was no big deal in my situation, but still makes my stomach turn and I can recall it being a serious mental effort for a couple of days to stop playing it, checking my fifa app all tge time when not playing it. So therers clearly a dynamic at play that really hooks into some people and I have little doubt that it's intentional from everything I've read and experienced. Not saying it shoukd be ban, in the sane why alcohol shouldn't be ban as a % become alcoholics. In fact I've read some good stuff that strongly argue illicit substances shoukd be decriminalised as tge war on drugs is costing more than it becoming controlled/decriminalised. They'll always be some that become addicted to various things, but most won't (chasing the scream is a great book on the subject btw).

Destiny 2 first person shooter made by Bungie. Each week they release a TWAB. That stands for This Week At Bungie. They highlight upcoming changes to the game.

You have to do something like that in a live service game. Otherwise you start to lose your players.

According to who? PD release an update every month, certainly keeps me interested

I think PD has a culture where Kaz is the only one who is allowed to make design decisions. He seems to live in his own little bubble and ignores all the feedback from fans. Forza has been kicking PD's butt for years and they still haven't changed a bit. In fact, they've doubled down on the idiocy. PD and Kaz are a lost cause.

I dont think t10 has kicked pd butt. And to me cars feels better to drive in gran turismo. Its much more a preference thing rather than anything else

Tone deaf?

Like... there's no black driver avatars or something?
Or any driver model that isn't transgender. I mean look at those hips on the driver model. Certainly not male hips, certainly not female hips either... :sly:
