I'm new to GT and I can't play it because of the behind camera view and...

Hello

I just started playing GT5P and the GT5Demo and my experience was horrible!!
WTF!! This camera view behind the car sucks, it's always exactly behind the car, perpendicular to the axis of the car!

Whereas in all other racing games (forza, shift...), in turns the camera turns so that we can see the side of the car (door, wheels) and this gives a sort of feeling in the turn and make the player enjoy when skidding as you see it skidding.

And in GT5P and the demo as well we don't really see the car skidding as the cam is exactly behind!!

Because of that my feeling in GT is very bad...

Some of you will say i should play with cockpit view but i've always prefered the pursuit behind view...

With the horrible skid sound and the lack of skid marks GT should never be considered as the best racing game.... Are the guys at Polyphony that bad to not being able to put that in the game!!!

As it's the same problem in the demo GT5 will be the same and i'm totally disapointed...

What are your opinions about that?

I hope you understood what i meant and sorry for my english.

My opinion is that your second post and thread in this case on this forum is very negative.

And IIRC (= if I recall correctly), it has been confirmed that the PS3 eyetoy will act as a tracking device in GT5. So while you're behind the wheel, you can look left and right and maybe even around inside the car, just by moving your head. A far better way than the examples you gave.

Also, if you want the ultimate experience in surround gaming, get three PS3's, three copies of GT5 (next year), three monitors and a PS3 eyetoy.

This is a very valid point. It was fine in Gran Turismo 3, but with 4 they started this fixed angle view. I didn't like it, and so many people have complained on this forum about it.

One thing that is intrigueing is that in some of the demos we have seen over the past few months, the view angle is not fixed. With other options being so customisable (The map options in the GT5 time trial demo, full button customisation etc.) it begs the question, will there be two chase views in the final game; one fixed and one not? It's easily possible, by the looks of this video it is already in their code:

Why they would remove this view for the full game is beyond me, because its spectacular.

This thread has some more info:

What valid points to describe GT as one of the worst racing games...

I ignored that sentence of his. He seemed to be asking a genuine question. I was hoping if someone gave him a useful answer he would go away, or at least look at the positives of the series and stop mentioning insignificant details. :sly:

If you look at post #3, with the link i gave, this thread is no longer required.

(Before it turns into a flame skirmish - 3 threads or more and it's a flame war :P)

'Scuse me for putting it out there, but I don't think your the type that is very interested in a sim racer.

First of all because of your initial complaint. While I should be saying you should be stting inside the car, I won't, because I respect the fact that everyone plays it differently. However, you complain that the camera stays bang on on the back of the car - is it to allow the driver to be more in control and have a better knowledge of what is going on - which can't be gained if you are looking from a slightly side on angle.

On top of that you say you can't see yourself skidding - in GT, usually the aim of the game is to not skid (although drifting has changed that), and with Kaz and not having skid marks, until it is implemented properly (eg. realistically instead of adding tire marks to the road) it won't happen.

GT is more introvert and held back as other racing games, yet more fun to sim lovers ad those who like squeezing the absolute most out of what a car can do. I'm getting the feeling you rather like exciting, noisy games that are better if you wand to jump in and drive - in which case I recommend Shift and F3.

IMO of course.

You're basically saying that GT is worse than Forza because you don't like a camera and you can't skid. Honestly if you don't like it, why don't youjust walk into PD and fix it yourself?

*Just wishes some guys should give some new members a break and have some patience*

Seriously, he pointed out a problem with the 3rd person view. Well i can add more to that. In GT5P you get no feedback from 3rd person because of the fixed camera, and you also get no engine revs without turning your volume up, so you can't change gear properly. Also, the revometer doesn't show the RPM, its just a bunch of white and red lines, so when someone in the tuning forum says "Shift at 8000rpm" i can't do that. But it shows the proper dial in the other views.

And the other things he mentioned, obviously he is a new member to the GT community so we should teach him how GT differs from other racing games. He hasn't played previous games so all he has to go on is the demo, which i would imagine really sucks for a first time player.

*Just wishes some guys should give some new members a break and have some patience*

I have patience - its just that what he's raising issues about are quite trivial with the GT recipe (not so much with others) and I was explaining that and maybe his expectations were better suited with a different sub genre of racing. And I did it all with as least mallicious attitude as possible.

Yeah you did elaborate on why he was wrong, my comment wasn't directed at you. But other people didn't explain anything, they just said words to the effect of 'get out and go play NFS noob'.

I mean my first post on this forum was complaining about being unable to control the Ford GT LM tuned on GT5P. I had one guy say i was 'retarded' and knew nothing about cars. Just saying, everyone is a noob at some point.

Cool :D

And I didn't say he was wrong lol....just a suggention or two :).

How you can talk like that about best race game in world!!!!! If you dont like GT5P go and play arcade game like shift and grid!!!!!!!

*Just wishes some guys should give some new members a break and have some patience*

Seriously, he pointed out a problem with the 3rd person view.

I'm sorry, but if anyone makes a such a negative thread about a game and developer with his only argument being he can't enjoy his skidding properly, that doesn't deserve a proper answer. GT5 will never be the best racing game because the chase view doesn't give a spectacular view while skidding? You're having a laugh? I couldn't care any less if someone with that mindset can't enjoy this game.

Now I'm all for improving the game for valid reasons and having as many customisable cameras for everyone to enjoy, but that particular post was just dreadful. You made good points, he unfortunately didn't.

First sorry for not having found the old topic on this and for attacking "your" Gran turismo being extreme in my words.

I didn't saw this video where the cam problem is solved. I hope it will be included in the final version! Then I'll be happy!:)

Just a question but is my answer about the PS3 eyetoy being a headtracking device in GT5, not a useful answer?

It's not "our" GT. In fact I'm not even sure I'll get GT5.

Critisme is good but it's the way you wrote your negativity towards GT. You could have said it differently. Then this thread would not have been a complain thread but a discussion thread instead.
Choose your words carefully. I know what I'm talking about because I've done the same thing as you did. But I think (I hope) I've learnt my lesson.

And... it's a demo. Who says that it (= view turning as you turn your wheel, looking at the apex so to speak) wouldn't be included in the full version?

By the way, for what's worth, welcome to GTP.

No not really :P

But again my comment wasn't directed at you, it was directed at Micdog and Custer. Hats off, its people like you guys who make forums a bad place.

OK, I often see people commenting on the chase cam "issue." I have always used bumper, and then interior so I never noticed it, but I did notice a comment on the PlayStation Blog a while back in regards to it. This is an official response, from a producer at Sony, to a comment regarding the chase cam as described in the OP.

You bring up an excellent point, Rude_Sparthan. Polyphony came close to fixing the chase-cam problem in the Cologne build but they’ve since reverted back to the terrible, rigid camera from GT4/GT5P. I wonder why they changed back. Hmm…

Taku Imasaki replied on December 16, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Someone did bring this issue up with us directly a while ago (was that you mclaren?) and I’ve discussed this with the developer… frankly it is not a ‘problem’, more of a matter of preference, and we may end up having both types co-exist.

As this appears to be a larger issue than I imagined for some people I think the best course of action for longstanding GTP members would be to refer to this quote.

I've always in the past used the chase cam, only forcing myself to use the bumper cam for GT5P. I tried switching to chase cam again to see what it was like in the GT5demo and also found it quite disconcerting to use. Not that i'm likely to use it again much, but i'd like to see the unfixed position chase cam as an option in GT5, purely because i sometimes like to look at the car i'm driving. It's also a good view to use for accurate positioning of your car in an oval track race.

When I want to look at the car I'm driving, I watch the replay. I stoped using the chase cam in GT back when I was 8 or 9 years old, simply because I realised pretty quick that it was more than just a game. That's me though, and I don't blame any of you who are using the chase cam.

Haha so funny how defensive everyone on GTP is, someone "wrote negatively about GT5" oh no he is enemy of the state, burn him! This is like a communist community here

I think your post was pretty damn funny as well.

I like the way you've just managed to insult the entire GTP community by saying that 'everyone is defensive'

I'm not defensive of GT5p or the demo. If there's a negative point about the game brought forward in a constructive way, I'm more than happy to read the opinions of others.

And if you find this forum and it's members are like communists, there's an easy solution...

...you can always go somewhere else :sly:

Have a good christmas :)

I agree with this thread, we are just few weeks before releasing THAT GAME which is almost six years in development and there are still things obviously messed up and many failings already present from previous issues. And when we talk about them, we are:

MOANERS
WHINGERS
CRYING BABIES
and many more names.

This is actually going to be just plain praising forum and when this is breaked by anyone, many users come in hordes like locusts to defend even obviously wrong things in the game and attacking normally discussing users personally.

Our minds are shifted by years and years overcoming that imperfections, but all those things like bad views, downshifting to 1st in 200 km/h, lack of skidmarks and reverse lights are glaring for any GT newcomer. Deal with it and let the space for discussion, please!

Very interesting... I think we will get a choice then.

[Political thought]Though i don't really know why burning people is relevant to communism.

Perfect Communism > Perfect Capitalism

Except Perfect communism can not exist as long as people don't accept others as equals... Actually by that logic, GT is actually the opposite of a communist community because theres a sense of elitism among long standing GT players/GTP members[/Political thought]
