Respect to the guys who do own and drive really low cars though. Obviously they're not setting their cars up for autocross or track work so getting low is the only aim and they are willing to make compromises to ride quality and overall handling for the sake of aesthetics.

Handling on my car isn't really compromised. Of course, to an extent, but people believe it's far worse than it is. I'm keen on raising my strut towers though, that gives you more travel, which is good for both a better ride and better handling, but keeps the car low.

PS: My car is good for both autox and trackdays, it's not hopeless :)

Heh, I didn't mean to imply that being low rendered the car completely unable to handle, perhaps I shouldn't have said that their only aim was getting low, but for many people it can be right up there in the priority list.

Also, the wheels maketh the Evo.

Don't the tyres foul the wheel arches when hard cornering or going over bumps (or even whilst turning the front wheels) on most of these cars?

I loved the EVO, but this is just pure rice...
How is this pure rice? I see no rice at all but a VIP car that is so popular with the older tuners.
Maybe there's a new term of the word rice that I'm unfamiliar with. :dunce:

No, I think it's just the fact that we have a different interpretation (inter-wa?) of the word "rice". That car is far too low for me, and there's far too much chrome on it, plus the fact that it looks like a typical rapper-limo-heaps of money-o-video car makes me think of it as a ricer car :)

VIP-style cars were inspired by the cars that Japanese mafia members rode around in. They're meant to look very secretive and sinister.

Yeah, some serious elements from the bozosoku movement tied in with Yakoza activities.

Rubbing usually comes down to three tings, oversized tires, wrong offsets and soft shocks/springs. Notice how most of the guys stretch tires when they're going low? Those who think it's only for looks have got it wrong :) If the car is stiff with some stretch you won't rub too much. I'm not saying you can load the car up with people and luggage and expect it to be perfect, but you can enjoy driving pretty hard without rubbing when driving alone. Also most these arches are seriously rolled, and beaten to death :)

One of my friends' old cars :)

It's overkill yeah, 205/45-14s on a 10".

To continue the imports thread.. Someone spot a mod that seperates this out from all the other Golf 3s and win nothing :)

That would be DUB.

To do that, you just have to fit the biggest wheels the car can fit under the stock suspension and you're done.

This is NOTHING like that. At all.

Not even close.

Does not equal this:

The End.

EDIT: @eiriksmil - You have sacrificed your car's handling. You probably have no idea how bad you've screwed your car's suspension geometry.

No dude, you're right.

I don't feel it every time I turn the wheel.
I don't see the toe in on both wheels when I leave the car.
I haven't seen the angle of the coilovers when I've jacked up the car the 5-6 times this year.
I haven't seen the control arms pointing upwards.

You're right, I've got no idea how my own car is at all. Learn to read dude, not saying I've got optimal handling, only saying it's not so bad people think it is when it comes to actually experiencing a low car. An alignment would help me though. Oh, and my bushes and bearings are probably on their way out pretty soon :)

I think what Keef is saying is that you don't realize how bad your car actually does handle versus a proper autocross setup. I've driven slammed cars versus autocross and track setups... and there is no comparison. I'd rather drive a stock suspension on just about anything versus an overly lowered car.

Keef didn't say it, and it's not all about getting the car lower, many other factors too. I really want to raise my strut towers.
I slammed it because of looks, of course, I just stated earlier it's not hopeless on a track either. Then again, I didn't say it was a racecar either.

Damn, GTP is one hard place to write stuff. Now I know why everyone write several paragraphs here.

I meant that although you might be able to physically see it, you don't realize how much of a negative effect is has on your car's handling. I'm sure you've never had your suspension properly tuned by a respectable tuner to fully see the potential of the car.

Just because it feels faster doesn't mean it is.

Why do you think I keep saying I want to do that strut tower mod? :P I know it's not exactly 'perfect balance' in the car right now ;)
"Respectable tuner"? Sounds like you're still in Gran Turismo.. I haven't even aligned the car.

Gran Turismo?

I meant someone who actually knows what they are doing. Your car is too low and it hasn't even been aligned and you claim it's not hopeless on a track?

I take it you mean it can actually get around it without crashing?

I'll just leave it at "hardparkers fail."

meh.

Something's up with the rear door/window. The window looks fixed for a start, leading me to believe it's from a 3dr car. It's either a five-door with a 3dr's window, or a 3dr that's been converted to a 5dr. Am I close?

Also, I'd like to add that I think the red Golf MkII with the stretched tyres looks awful. Strangely, the blue MkIII looks okay, but I'd prefer it with normal tyres instead of the stretched thing again. I actually really don't get the appeal of stretched tyres.

This thread is starting to lack pictures and I found this little old school Honda awesome.

Lmao. That looks like a wild ride!

Woot rallycross!

Now that's what Evos are born to do.

That guy is serious. Those are rally car tires!

There's a Scirocco set up to rock it. Note the de-slammage and the almost totally flat stance. Huge sway bars FTW.

An Odyssey built and driven by Honda engineers in One Lap of America earlier this year. Look at that NASCAR-style sway bar underneath the rear end. Sex!

The rear window is fixed, and the front bumper is completely lacking turn signals, fogs, plates, and everything else that inhabits the front bumper on every mk.3 I've seen.

Leave it at epic fail for all I care. Parking this car.. Not fun :) At low speeds it jumps around because it's too stiff..
PS: You don't know a thing about my car of how it handles, you're on the other side of the Atlantic. As the speeds rise the screwed alignment becomes less and less evident. Wish you lived closer to see for yourself instead of guessing what it's like. I don't really know how you can tell me how I don't know what I'm doing and that I don't know how my car isn't perfect :)

5-door with a three-door window. Both cars, especially the blue one, would have rubbed just by driving with normal sized tires. If you want to go low and push your wheels far out, stretch becomes necessary.
