They don't get as much love, and for three reasons, I feel:I feel they don't get as much love as the E30 for some reason.
1) The M3 did better on the race track and carried an image as being the better performer.
2) The 190 has seen a lot of use by cab companies. That image is still sticking to it like glue.
3) 190s are mostly driven by a) old geezers who have had that car for 30 years or b) by young folks looking for a cheap car.
As such, they're not seen as particularly sporty. Plus, the 2.3-16 and the 2.5-16 weren't standing out as much as the M3 did as they were still going by the 190E designation. The M3's popularity only grew from there and turned it into the sought after car it is today.
Stock vs. stock, the M3 might be the better car, but if the car's getting modified anyway, well, there's not going to be that much difference, I guess.
