INITIALD GT STAGE

Hi GTP, I've decided to run a challenge series which is a little different, based on the Initial D Series. First of all, yes I'm an Initial D Fanboy. But I hope this will satisfy both fans of the series and racers alike.

=======================================

ACT 002 - Neo Emperor (14 Feb 11 - 27 Feb 11)
Kyoichi Sudo is looking for new recruits for his team. His only requirements that you'll have to be driving a Lancer Evolution. He still believes in the LAN Evos being the king of the hills. LAN Evos have a lot of power potential, but can it still stick to the ground on street tyres? Power isn't everything in the hills!

This is awesome, but if you could just humor me here, but what is Initial D exactly? Like I know it involves that Toyota Sprinter and street racing, but like what is it all about?

How does the Initial D GT Stage set itself apart from other series:

Tyres Restriction:
This challenge adopts the concept of street racing. Therefore, there will be a tyre restriction of Sports Hard and below. Why Sports Hard you ask? Everyday street cars don't run semi-slicks on the road! There's a couple of threads discussing about tyres here in GTP [1] [2] [3].

Also, since Kaz have given us Project D's AE86 in GT5, it will be the benchmark and it's running on Sports Hard. See the Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX (AE86 Shuichi Shigeno Ver.) ‘00.

Restricting to Sports Hard Tyres will level the playing field of between the low powered cars and high powered cars. Therefore, with limited grip, the big horsepower cars would need to learn to adjust to the limitations.

Weight Restriction:
Street cars have to be roadworthy. Weight reduction will be one which is restricted*. However, weight reduction will be allowed in certain challenges!
Weight Reduction Description from GT4:
Stage 1: Remove back seats, upholstery, sound insulation
Stage 2: Replace the material of the bonnet, front and rear wings, boot lid and other parts with aluminium, titanium and carbon.
Stage 3: Not only replaces the material of the parts but also installs carbon monocoque shell similar to race machines to lighten the car.

Suspension/LSD Tuning Limitations:
Practical every day cars have fixed spring rates, fixed anti-roll bars and fixed LSD values. How can a street racer change springs for every track? Only height and dampers will be adjustable. NEW! and will be tested for future events!

Tyre Wear:
Tyre wear has always been an important point in Initial D. Therefore, all challenges will have the tyre wear simulation. All races to be done online to simulate tyre wear and fuel depletion.

Damage:
Heavy damage is implemented to simulate the risks of pushing a car to the limit! With heavy damage, you'll find that each mistake will be fatal and how far are you willing to risk it!

Tracks & Shortcuts:
Shortcuts are allowed, period. In street racing, there are no rules! In the future, tracks from the course maker 'may' be adopted, depending on how things goes.

Consistency & Adaptability:
In time trials, we are willing to drive with everything you've got to get 'that best lap'. But here, with tyre wear and damage, you'll need to be able to adjust to cold tyres and tyre wear. You'll find that the challenges here will involve the total time of the race and not 'the best lap'. Therefore, you'll need to be consistant and have the endurance to last the whole race.

Creative Challenges:
There will be 2 types of series running. One will be a fixed time trial leaderboard. The another will be a series running for a season with certain restrictions and conditions. I'll try to keep the series be based around the Anime/Manga.

Last but not least, one for the Fanboys/girls:
You get to 'play' as the roles in the Anime/Manga series or pit your skills against them!

In simple terms without going into too much
the main character drives an AE86.
He races all the top drivers of his prefecture ultimately having a perfect winning streak.
There's more side stories and bits and pieces but that's the gist of it.

this sounds like a good idea. thanks for the invite i am really interested in it. i always thought it would be cool to replicate the races from the series such as ae86 vs impact blue sil80 or impact blue sil80 vs monster lan evo.

Cool idea. The only suggestion I would make would be to allow sport medium tires. I think they are fairly balanced as far as street legitimacy and not an overkill of grip.

I've just give a try to my own BKOTT a go.

One thing I can say, with Damage set at 'Heavy', I find that I drive the car more realistically. When I get off the track, I try to STOP, not Tamiya the car. (Tamiya produces mini rc cars which ran on rails. Used to have them when I was young, haha). Cause once the car is damage, it will affect the performance of the car.

I got a knock at near the end before the long straight, I'm not sure how that have affected the lap. But we'll see as we get more entries.

I'll update my entries when I can get a better time!

You're gonna need a Sonic Blue Mica for the Impreza. :) and the AE86 was 150 HP but wat ever. Still Awesome!

Lol, yeah, the or the Gun Metal Gray colour if you want to drive the 'manga version'! Yeah, I decided <165HP will allow for more tuning options and make the car more competitive.

We'll see if Takumi's AE86 can really keep up with the newer cars. That's the other reason why tyres are restricted up to Sports Hard Tyres. This will narrow the gap between the higher powered cars and lower powered ones. As higher powered cars need a lot more control to preserve the tyres. And with limited grip provided from the tyres, this will be the defining factor. How to get the power down onto the ground.

ahh, Initial D, followed the series for a long time back in the day. I'll definitely try this out when I get a chance

Cool, I'd like to join if one involves Kei's MR2. Also the Takumi one.

Actually, if you guys got some ideas and suggestions for the seasonal series, PM me. It'll be good to do a series where we can serve the fans.

:)

I guess that makes sense about the tires. Lets go with that an see how it goes. :)

Thanks for the flexibility and willingness to see how it goes. It's all not set in stone, but we'll see how things are. Things are not rigid around here.

hehe...

Cool, Every racing series takes trial an error to get started. I'm glad to be a part of this from the beginning and I hope I can be of use in organizing it. :D
I find it amazing how people have taken GT5 and make so many series, tournaments of all types with it so fast, all based on what they love.

Alrighty!

Yes, That would be great. What car would you like in return?

The only car I really want right now is the Hakosuka. I heard it's really hard to find. I guess it's true because I've been checking the UCD for some time now and can't seem to find it.

I have two ;)

Hey guys, the AE86 Challenge is happening soon, if you guys are participating, could you let me know, so that I can compile the names in front!

Add me to that AE86 challenge as well please. I don't have it either though. :( I will check the UCD though real quick an maybe it would come up. :)
