Initial D To US?

I just saw a Commercial on MTV for the Initial D DVD which is coming out in america on September 16 at best buy!   Im really scared of how all the riceboys are going to react :nervous: :irked:

It's stupid. Tokyopop raped it when they translated it to english. The names are different, and I'm sure the voices are going to suck. If you want to watch Initial D the way it's supposed to be watched, then go to E-bay type in Initial D and buy it season by season.

*sigh* and it begins..the image of initial d will be tarnished forever..drifting will be destroyed..already the rice boy phase of drifting has started to take over at my high school..it makes me sad..you have these kids that act like they know how to drift and talk like they are experts..one of 'em said you can't drift cause you can't downshift like i can....the other was talkin about initial d and saying how an 86 corolla..(it's actually a ae86 and the number deals with the engine model not the year of the car) beat an rx-7..theres gonna be so many accidents with kids tryin to drift with integs and civics..and the new car craze will soon become hachi-rokus and rx-7s..please let this all be a bad dream..:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:  :irked:

LOL  I wonder what tokyo pop tranlated (forgot the girls name:embarrassed: ) when she offers her virginity to Isjofalwlajwg, I don't know how to spell their name, I didn't pay that much attention to the story, I just watched the drifts.

Working at a video store has it's perks. I've already seen it, and if I were you, DON'T WATCH THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE "ENHANCED" VERSION! It's, well, let me let my friend tell you:

Hey I'm King Geedorah (if you haven't seen Venom's drift videos yet, I'm the editor), heres my review for the US release of Initial D.

Well, first off Tokyo Pop did the US release of Initial D. Now don't get me wrong, Tokyo Pop does sweet manga translations and other very good anime releases as well. However, for Initial D, they stopped very short of any goal. Included in the DVD, is the original "classic" japanese version with english subtitles and the US "tricked out" version. The DVD menu presentation is very clear and to the precise. It includes alot of nifty features, displays, and an original Initial D car showroom. The goodness ends there, sadly. We first decided to check out the u.s. "tricked outed" version, because after all, like everyone else we've seen the whole series in japanese long before it ever came out ^_^ First butchering...the intro. Animation wise, its identical to the japanese intro. The difference ends there however. Whereas the japanese super euro beat-esque music goes very well with the intro, the U.S. music falls pathetically short. I'm not sure who the hip-hop artist is, but the music mixing is dull and the lyrics are laughable and unispired. I love and actively listen to underground hip-hop (del and mf doom anyone?), and trust me this intro is _no_ good, and I would especially not like to see it on the intro of every episode! If you can manage to get past the intro, you arrive to the first scene, which introduces you to akina and to the AE86. Unfortunately, instead of the always likeable and highly pleasing super-euro beat, you are treated to generic guitar abusing rock, that bears no semblance to the original japanese series. To make matters even worse (if thats possible by now), the 3D trueno drifting down the mountain has been "enhanced" using effects like mirroring and multi-boxing, which are so amateursish, I could have done it all myself with my freeware movie software on my home computer! If you're not aggrevated with the whole "fast and furious" vibe yet, just wait, theres more. Once you actually get to the speaking part, you probably won't be surprised that Tokyo Pop hired the most generic and least enthusiastic voice actors possible. It also doesn't help that the translation (dubbing) is not very true to the japanese wording, and that they use "cool" fast and the furious lingo like "this s13 costs 10,000 bones!"...please, come off it already. Coupled with that, is the fact that the regular background music is a craptacular mix of boyband/punkrock, that totally destroys the mood of the anime. So, in conclusion these are my two ratings. Original japanese Inital D...5 out 5. Ok, I will admit that if I never watched Inital D before and I was an average american consumer who enjoyed music on the radio and thought the fast and furious was a well done movie, I'd give it a 2.5/3 out of 5. Now for everyone else who has seen the Japanese version and has any taste in artistic style...if you watched the U.S. "tricked outed" verison muted, with your own background music, and somehow managed to swallow the childish "effects", it'd recieve a solid 1 out of 5. Thats my review, take it how you like, but don't flame venom about it. Btw, I recomend buying the whole series in japanese off ebay for 40 bucks, than spend your money on the us release for the same price. Peace all

The man is right, and I agree on every point. Seriously folkes, unless you have to watch horribly dubbed english, then fine, thats your own perogative, but I HIGHLY recomend you watch the japanese release instead.

There just released, but we're having trouble getting them onto the Project D site. If anyone wants to temporarily host my three vids till then, I'd be very appreciative. They're each between 10 and 20 or so MB, so they aren't too bad of a download either, despite max picture quality. :D

Initial D! is sort of passing into a phase I went through, I suppose. I mean, I enjoyed it immensely. Hell, it was, as shameful as this might be to admit, the thing that launched my 15-year old mindset into an interest in drifting. From there, it led me to read into cars. Er. Where is this going? Well.

It's no surprise to me that Tokyopop have raped Initial D! into a horrid version of what it was, but the thing is, the majority of non-idiots have already gotten the fansubs and seen the whole series. Now I own the soundtracks on CD, and the only Initial D! I watch now would be Battle Stage, or occasionally the movie. Still, I hope this takes off well in the U.S.A., so we might get more of the damned arcade machines.

They translated it to Maya..And I belive the co-driver/navagter's (I can't spell..) name is Simone. I belive, not sure, I never liked Initial D very much..

:( no they r not distroying Initial D like this, i dun want drifting to go in the rice world. why can't they stick with their BIG ASS GT spoilers and FLASHY decals? and the bomber mufflers? and the neon lights? WHY GO IN TO DRIFTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

REMEMBER, friends don't let friends drive rice cars.

I will beat my friends within an inch of their lives if they try drifting in a civic, and/or think drifting is just a squeal of the tires. I swear, I'll do it!

No need to joke around. They are ricers. :odd: The only person I know around here that actually knows what drifting is, and appreciates it like an art, is a 12 yr old kid. :odd: Hes cool in the fact he can drift better than I, but odd in the fact hes only 12..

Accurate statement, though it is a run on from hell. ;)

there going to ruin it lol paying 40$ for a dvd when u can buy the whole series on dvd with all the ovas (movies) for like 100$ what a joke so all you people who are just cant wait for this should just stick to japanese version !!!!

Think reverse, and see how much you gain.

to be honest in my post i was expressing my hatred to american version of initial d and i didnt pay for any of my inititial d and all the movies so it didnt matter for me!

I honestly dont think that the intial d american version will get all the ricer boys attention unless Best Buy is putting up huge banners on theire stores announcing that they have it and if they dont have it in there little add book thing that comes in a newspaper. I already checked and no I dont believe its in there. I know all the guys that actually drift and all think I am an idiot but the guys w/hondas will probablly quit assdragging (honda drifting:lol: ) once they go through a new set of dubs for their 20 inch rims in one week. God only knows though because I heard that APC has their own sponsored drift car!!:banghead: :odd: .

But imho drifting wont become a fad until honda or toyota comes out w/a NEW (no ae86's included) rwd car that they can afford.

lol I agree;)

Its kinda funny when Hondas and neons w/their homemade spoilers attempt to race my mom in our 98 m3. All she has to do is short shift and well still whoop em. But my dad lays the pedal to the metal to make sure those ricers no where they belong...The bottom of the food chain muwahahaha:lol:

For a ricer's perspective, the main problem between Initial D and America is the middle-aged and elders will definitely start filing on noise complaints which will enforce further vehicle laws. I'm dead serious.
