Initial ideas to improve Sportsmanship Rating

Treat SR as the cost to repair you car

You hit people, you fork out $$ to repair the car and the people you hit also need to use $$ for repairs ( even not his fault ).

In iRacing they use the same concept

in a racing, there are 17 max incident points
4 points for car contact
2 points for wall contact
1 point for offtrack
2 points for lost control

When you hit 17/17, iRacing will DNF you and you will lose significant amount of SR and IR and also CHAMP POINT

Its a bit of a bummer that people can be such bad sportsmen and maintain a decent SR rating. I'm constantly being rear ended whilst trying avoid rear ending the car ahead of me. I almost want to start in last place so I can just drive safely.

I think we need harsher penalties to ensure everyone is doing their best to drive in a safe sportsmanlike manner.

Surely something simple like a 3 strike system would work for the great unwashed? IF your front bumper contacts another car you get a strike. 3 and you are out of the race game over. and banned for 1 hour from racing in daily race. Of course this would have to be in addition to the other SR penalties to stop people just saving up their strikes to use on the final bend. Jerks take pride in being awarded negative ratings. Like a badge of honor. They LOATHE being ignored, so a short ban would infuriate them into actually maybe behaving.

The way SR is calculated is ********. You can be braking normally and someone taps you from behind and your SR goes down. Or take a turn a bit wide and someone sideswiped you from the inside and sends you off the road and you get a decrease in SR. Makes the whole rating system a joke really.

Too easy to game. Brake check someone 3 times and they're out.

In GT5 & GT6, any bad drivers you added to your PSN blocked List were automatically blocked from any lobbies you hosted in future. It would be good if the severs in Sport Mode would similarly make sure not to match you with those on your PSN Blocked List.

Still the case, yet to see any of the guys I've blocked online, but I can see some of them are active on GT Sport.

A good idea would be to have players lose the car they're using if they exceed a certain number of penalties in either a single or a certain number of races.

It should be very simple. The game knows what the correct driving speeds are. So if the driver rams someone from behind while going to fast only the ramming car gets a penalty. And use the same information for sideswiping.

On its own yes. If you hit someone when the person you hit is NOT applying brakes thats a no brainer. Of if you you hit someone on ANY straight outside a clear braking zone. No penalty. Im talking people who just deliberately
coast into you as you break for a corner to slow them down and punt you off. Thats so easy to implement and hard to game.

To catch the criminal you have to think like one. I see two types of racing bad eggs:

1) The guys who can actually race somewhat and want to win and have no problem removing you from the equation if you are in the way, slowing them down. "It was the noob in front's fault - he broke too soon!"
and
2) The guys who have no intention at all of winning or racing and just want to do as much damage as possible to the race itself and everyone in it.

the Number 2's (hehe) should be easy to catch and eradicate. Number 1's are harder as they know the subtleties in racing and can take advantage of them.

I had a race with a No. 1 tonight. I started in 3rd around Suzuka East and was being held up by the two guys in front and driving defensive lines to keep the guy in 4th behind. Everything was ok for the first lap and a half. He clearly got frustrated and just kept tapping me to try and get me out of the way. He eventually succeeded and I was lucky not to lose more places. However, karma intervened and he outbraked himself on the first corner of the last lap and lost a good five places!

Some people think this is Drive Club 2. Every time I get to B SR, I'm in the middle of the pack and get slammed back into C SR. Maybe I'll just stay in the lower classes and bash and crash with the boys. Oh well, the graphics look pretty.

I've been rammed a couple of times in recent races at the first turn, managed to stay on track and avoided going into other cars in front of me and it still gave me a positive SR for that sector. I think the rear ending penalty/SR decrease has been improved since the beta test, as I don't seem to get penalties any more after being rear ended.

I would like to apologize to all of those people who received a friendly bumper tap by me. I’ve only had the game 2 days and I’m still adjusting. Trying not to get plowed and trying not to plow others is somewhat difficult in the lower SR classes. It can be a cluster...

I got back to B and B. It can be frustrating at times, but I'll take the advice and be patient as this is a new game with lots of brand new drivers. And I'm staying off that northern isle speedway, yikes! Impossible.

Brands Hatch is the only one worth doing now if you want to UP your SR. I got mine to S. You cant expect to race well AND improve SR at the same time sadly. Just let everyone pass you and do clean laps. If you a B will take 10 races max and you be S.

It will be harder to police the sneaky "number 1" racers I think! Yesterday in Sports mode I was second at Brands Hatch only to have second place (who had been on my tail for 2 laps) to slowly push me into the dirt with his car on the last leg of the last lap. If he hadn't of done it, I would have won, but alas there was no penalty for contact for either of us (I was mildly infuriated). It was a shame really as he was a good driver, would have probably beat me clean if there was another lap to go at but the urge to win no matter what the cost is too great for some people it seems...

Looks like one of my wishes has been granted anyway, the oval ring now has a 12 car line up instead of the usual 24...

Don’t agree with (1). Being hit from behind is not an automatic fault of the person behind.

There are plenty of people driving erratically, losing control of their car or cutting off faster drivers.

As for (4) this will just encourage people to avoid getting into situations where they might touch another Car. Nothing wrong with that you might say, except that racing is always about putting yourself in a situation where you might contact another Car.

Passing requires both drivers to follow the rules - being hit during a pass is a fault in one or both of the drivers. The driver in front is not always free of blame.

Everyone else knows that the penalty system is ridiculously unfair. Of course the person behind is not always responsible (maybe 15% of the time). However, this is 2017,and the AI should be able to interpret brake checking and/or mistakes by the person in front. It clearly doesn't do that now. I race with a bunch of really good drivers, and all feel the penalty system is ruining their experience. All are in agreement that the intention of the system is great, but significant improvements need to be made quickly!
