Page 9 - Cherry Blossoms


And so, we returned to the hotel with our depressed faces. But Ricky just pats on our shoulders... It's just so depressing. That one chance of proving ourselves to the world has just been thwarted that easily.


Ricky: "Don't feel so down. Things like these will really come. But we have to use them to learn. Experiences, regardless of any kind, are valuable learning tools."

Samui: "He's right, Nobuyuki-san. And maybe you could beat Nigel in some other way."

Nobuyuki: "The saddest part is, that I was wearing my little brother's race suit. It's as if I failed in representing him..."

Samui: "We all have our failures. But we learn from them to get stronger."


Maybe I wasn't meant to race in snow nor dirt anyway. Well, he's right. This expedition has proven to be a learning experience.

Nobuyuki: "Thanks, guys..."


Ricky: "It's time for us to have our session, shall we? Let's have a drink."

Nobuyuki: "Why?"

Ricky: "I don't want to spend any further on the repairs. Consider this as our freedom. Haha!"

And so, he orders a bottle of champagne through the room service.

Location: Suzuka Circuit, Mie Prefecture, Japan
Time: 10 am

We finally arrived home. I felt no shame when I told that experience to them. And oh... it's springtime! Finally! Temperatures do rise up a bit.


Since I have spare time, I head to Suzuka Circuit to have a run with my Z4. I miss my Z4 a lot, you know?

As expected from an M-spec BMW, the suspension just breaks your back. But it will reward you with unparalleled handling.

Little Nobu.... I wish you are here. I wish we would be talking and laughing together in this car.

I stop the car at the 130R and just head out to look up the sky. Otousan told me that you used to do it...

I raised up my right fist.

I won't let you down next time, Little Nobu! I am very proud to wear your race suit!

I returned to Tokyo just in time for dinner. I did have a meeting with Takanori-san along with the rest of the Dream Alliance members. We would be heading back to Europe after a month.

Before I head inside, I took a moment to look at the cherry blossoms. The moonlight allows them to show off their beauty.

Before, I never really liked the cherry blossoms. Their short lifespan reminded me on the time I spent with my family before I got abducted...


...and also the short time I got to be with Little Nobu.

But now... I realized, how beautiful they really are. And I think they have a meaning.

It just shows that in the end, we would prevail in whatever challenge we face in life. Their bloom means that there is success in life.




Nigel... we are not done yet. I shall show you what robots don't have.



THE POWER OF DETERMINATION! A robot can never measure that by any means.

- The ending is rather short, and I intended that.
- The next story will have a real-life racing driver playing a mentor role. Though that character will have a short time in the story.

- Another "robot" will come up in the next story. Unlike Nigel, it is devoid of any emotion and it is the next phase of the Project NH. It will also have a human body, and it is my surprise for you.

Actually, Takanori is the only "ninja". He did study a bit of ninjutsu, but Takuma is a far better martial artist.

Page 1 - A Special M3


Yawn..... What time is it? Oh shoot, it's 9 in the morning! I overslept! I am supposed to meet the Kanonjis!

Great, my alarm didn't work... Guess it's time to get a new clock, then.

After a shower and dress up, I didn't bother eating breakfast and set off. My mom even wonders why I am so rushing.


I arrived at their Mochi Shop in Aoyama. I was told that they are in the dojo just steps away. Ummmm... why there?


Upon entering, I see Samui-kun watching Takuma in his black karate outfit. He is facing a dummy.

There is an awkward silence...


Takuma: "Ora ora!"

He unleashes a strong kick at the dummy's abdomen, then he follows them up with multiple kicks at a standstill! Then he notices my presence that he has to stop.

Takuma: "Oh there you are."

Nobuyuki: "Nice kicks there, Chun-Li."

Yes, I do play Street Fighter. Though I can say that I am fairly competent in it.


Takuma: "I just need to be in shape. Damn... the kicks are not fast enough."

Nobuyuki: "I want to see a Spinning Bird Kick."

Takuma: "Silly, it's not real. Great... where is my crybaby twin? He's late!"

Nobuyuki: "He lives in Yokohama, right? And according to the traffic news, there is an ongoing roadwork on two lanes at Wangan Northbound."

Takuma: "I don't care. I'll punish him when he arrives."

Samui: "I guess I am not the late one today, huh?"

Finally, Takanori-san arrives.

Takanori: "I am really sorry, everyone."

And Takuma-san unleashes a kick, though it stops short of hitting Takanori-san's nose.

Takuma: "Shin kicked you on the nose right? I guess you'll need a nose surgery if I am the one who did it. You. Are. Late!"

Takanori: "Sorry... The traffic is to blame!"

Takuma just put up a roundhouse kick to Takanori.

Takanori: "Owwww... I deserve it!"

Takuma: "Let's get to business while Takanori is cleaning the dojo."

Takanori: "Hey!"

Okay, Takanori-san is placing back all the equipment while we sit down and drink tea. Man, I missed drinking tea.

Takuma: "We shall be heading to Europe. Nobuyuki, are you sure that your father will really come with us?"

Nobuyuki: "I'll try to convince him to rest instead. He really wants to come."

Takuma: "If he insists, then just allow him. After all, Europe is a special place to him."

Takanori: "What are the races in store for us?"

Takuma: "Mostly in the Nurburgring. I can't believe that someone already bought it immediately. Though thankfully, the track is still alive, and that's important."

Takanori: "Nurburgring 24 Hours... so many memories there."

Takuma: "We will be doing another 24 hour race too, albeit in Le Mans."

Takanori: "Oh great!"

Samui: "24 Hours? You mean, we will race for 24 hours straight?"

Takanori: "Yep yep! You haven't done any form of endurance race, right?"

Samui: "I haven't. But I anticipated by working out, actually. I am too scrawny... I need to bulk up a bit. I want a form like yours."

Takuma: "That's a good step. Keep doing it. Body endurance is a key factor."

This would also be a great opportunity... to square off with Nigel.

Just wait, Nigel... Just wait.

Time: 3:00 pm

Nigel: "No horsepower loss. Oil and Water temperatures are normal."

Nigel: "Impressive cornering ability! I think I will drive this car more often."

Nigel: "7-speed dual clutch transmission shifts quickly. This would improve power delivery."

Nigel: "Target: Audi R8 4.2 FSI quattro. Performance Points: 520. Horsepower: 420 PS."

Nigel: "Locking on the target. Overtake before the hairpin. Taking inside lane."

Nigel: "Overtake successful. Switching back to "Maintain Pace" mode."

Nigel: "Increase Pace mode activated. Increasing accelerator input..."


Nigel returns to the parking lot, joining with Sayuki.


Sayuki: "Is the car's performance satisfactory?"

Nigel: "Affirmative. Actually, this is my favorite now."

Sayuki: "That's good to hear. Come, let's have a snack. You do need to charge up some energy."

Nigel: "I do prefer high carbohydrate inputs for energy restoration."

Sayuki: "Next time, don't talk like that to other people. That's one of the things you shouldn't do to your friends."

Nigel: "Okay."

Sayuki: "Though you are getting more human-like. You are doing good on your homework. Keep observing on how humans interact, and you'll really get the hang of socializing, okay?"

Nigel: "I understand. So, shall we eat, Sayuki-san?"

Sayuki: "Let's go."

Page 2 - Second Phase


We arrived in Europe.... with Mom and Dad along. Dad is really stubborn, eh?

This time around, we are in Germany, and we stayed at Takanori-san's half-brother's home. A woman welcomed us warmly, and she made 2 rooms available for us to rest in.

Takanori: "Thank you very much, Ms. Katrine!"

Katrine: "You are my husband's half-brother, and I have to be hospitable. Finding a nice hotel in Germany is hard. You should just stay here."

Takanori: "So, how's your child? Is he healthy?"

Katrine: "Yes. Alex is doing fine. I have him vaccinated."

Takanori: "I guess the tough part is telling him what happened to his father."

Katrine: "I'm sure he'll come to terms with it."

While the two are having a lovely chat, Dad took me out and leads me to a house just across the street.

Hiroyuki: "Come, I'll show you something."

Nobuyuki: "What is it?"

Hiroyuki: "This is where I stayed after I divorced your mother. This is like my base of operations for my races in Europe. And there is only one car here that is my reliable travel partner..."

Wow.... he can afford a house in Europe. With a wooden floor and some antiques, it is a typical European house. He leads me to the garage, and unveils a blue BMW M5 E60

Nobuyuki: "An M5?"

Hiroyuki: "You'll love driving it. Here, take the keys. Let's head to the track nearby."

The interior is a typical BMW flair and sophistication. Still, I don't like the company's i-Drive system. Too complicated to use!

Before I could set off though, Dad just sets the car up through the buttons...


Hiroyuki: "Set to M+ mode... Shift speed must be in its fastest setting..."

Nobuyuki: "Just how many steps does it take to set it up to its maximum potential?"

Hiroyuki: "Even an old man like me cannot comprehend this. But I got the hang of it..."

Nobuyuki: "Whoa..."

Nobuyuki: "Is this a 5-series? Really? This is like driving a supercar!"

Hiroyuki: "That's why I love it so much. Just look how far has it traveled."

Nobuyuki: "50,000 kilometers? Whoa... a typical supercar owner won't even reach that mileage."

Hiroyuki: "But it sips fuel like an athlete from a triathlon."

Nobuyuki: "I like the brakes. Reminds me of a Porsche..."

Location: Deep Forest Raceway, Neckarsaulm, Gemany
Time: 2:00 pm


A group of scientists and mechanics are observing. It's as if they are on an experiment...

Leading the team is a middle-aged man named Christian Carlsson who hails from Sweden.

Christian: "Looks like NH 2 is doing well. Much better than Nigel."

Christian: "Unlike Nigel, NH 2 is devoid of any human emotion. This shall perform his functions very efficiently. NH 2 is simply the 2nd and possibly the final phase of the prototype."

Christian: "This time... we won't fail. We are not yet done. The time of inefficiencies, and fatigues of humans in racing will come to an end. Endurance races will be much better!"


The R8 stops at the pit lane. NH 2 comes out and removes his helmet.

NH 2: "This car is perfect. It feels like a totally rear wheel drive sports car."

Christian: "It should be. We will still be testing you further, and I am amazed at the reflexes you have."

NH 2: "What's my next assignment?"

Christian: "Dispose Nigel at all costs. Someone like him must be eradicated. After all, he is a failure."

NH 2: "Understood. Performing search..."


Christian: "Hehehehehe.... looks like taking the body of Nobuhiko Hiramoto and place all of his data is worth all the effort.


Simply put... it's Nobuhiko Hiramoto... revived and turned into perfection!"

Page 3 - The Ring Specialist

Location: Secret Underground Room in a bar in Berlin, Germany
Time: 1:00 pm


Christian: "Have you located Nigel?"

NH 2: "Affirmative. He is currently located in Madrid, Spain participating in a race."

Christian: "We just have to wait him to return to Germany first. Let him enjoy his last meals."

NH 2: "Awaiting further orders."

NH 2's red-glowing left eye has turned into black.

Christian: "NH 2 has a special left eye to further enhance his abilities. If it glows green, it significantly improves his reflexes in racing. If it glows red, however, he turns into a killing machine in a purpose eliminate Nigel and to protect himself. After all, Nobuhiko was a karate practitioner and a Parkour champion which were all achieved thanks to his superb reflexes.

Nobuhiko's body, of course, matches well with his reflexes. Artificial bodies can't just match...

It was a daring maneuver to steal Nobuhiko's body in the morgue after Dexter Heidelberg got the Nanoparticles. I suspected Dexter of doing something that will halt our plans, thus we stole the body and secretly initiated the NH 2 program."

Christian: "It's time to eliminate failures. NH 2 will be the ultimate racer, and there is no need for humans to face health risks associated in racing."

I returned to Otousan's house and check the M5. I love the car already, and I wonder if I can use it against Nigel...

...and I wonder too, if I can beat him in the Nurburgring. Yes, I want to race him there. I need a challenge. I haven't raced in the Nurburgring ever; and I want to conquer it.


Hiroyuki: "Oh, so you want to drive her today, eh?"

Nobuyuki: "Otousan... there you are. I thought you and Okaasan are doing shopping."

Hiroyuki: "Let's continue our father-son bonding. We have 15 years to catch up, remember that. Your mother is doing shopping with the Kanonjis."

Nobuyuki: "Oh okay. Hmmmmm...."

Hiroyuki: "What is it?"

Nobuyuki: "Can we go to the Nurburgring? I want to be prepared for an upcoming grudge match."

Hiroyuki: "Against who?"

Nobuyuki: "Nigel Heidelberg."

I said that with conviction. I am so eager to beat him!

Hiroyuki: "I see. Let's go then. You do want a challenge, eh?"

And so, we head to Nurburgring. Otousan made a call to someone, and he is speaking in fluent German. I can tell that he stayed here in Europe for long.

We arrived at the track. And then a woman welcomed us. She is rather youthful for her age.

Hiroyuki: "Nobuyuki, this is Sabine Schmitz. She is the Queen of the Nurburgring. She can overtake Porsches and even motorcycles in a van."

Nobuyuki: "Pleased to meet you, Ms. Sabine."

Sabine: "Nice to meet you too. So, I heard you want to take on Nigel Heidelberg here, eh? Well, it would take you lots and lots of practice here."

Nobuyuki: "I haven't raced in the Nurburgring ever. I want to be familiar so as to be prepared."

Sabine: "Shall we get started? I want to see you drive. Don't worry, I'll coach you too."


I am so nervous the moment I entered the track.

Sabine: "Nice entry speed."

Whoa! This is like a mountain pass! It is narrow and I can see elevation changes here! It's also like a roller coaster ride!

Sabine: "Just keep calm through that corner at 170 KM/H."

Then there's a series of corners coming up!

Sabine: "Keep it concentrated there. 100-110 KM/H are the safe speeds through those corners depending on the tires."

Then there's the bridge and I felt the car leaped up a bit.

Sabine: "Hit the brakes! We are entering at one of the most dangerous portions of the track. It may look simple and can be taken at high speed, but this section took lives."

Nobuyuki: "Got it."

It's still narrow at high speeds! Overtaking here can be tricky!

Sabine: "Slow down until 200 KM/H at that gentle curve before the hairpin."


Nobuyuki: "Damn! I turned in late! Gotta release the accelerator!"

One of the tires is caught on the grass!

Nobuyuki: "We are spinning out!"

Hiroyuki: "I think we are going to die..."

I've done it... How am I going to beat Nigel this way? We're not even halfway through the track!


Sabine: "You just got to know the nasty nature of the Nurburgring. Don't worry, everyone goes through that, including me. I shall teach you what I know. You have the potential!"


Really!? She will teach me??? Man, I thought I am just a nobody in front of her! Well then, I am up to the challenge! I am ready to learn and conquer the Green Hell!

Page 4 - The Ring Taxi


Next thing in the morning, everyone of us decided to go to the Nurburgring. Awwww... to think that they will support me, especially that I am getting a lecture from Sabine Schmitz.

But I did some research on her the night before. Watching some videos of her confirms her prowess at the Nurburgring.


Sabine: "Shall we go, Mr. Nobuyuki?"

Nobuyuki: "Yes."


Both of us enter in her white BMW M5, better known as The Ring Taxi. Of course, she will be driving it.

For a fee, everyone can enjoy the roller coaster ride of the Nurburgring with her behind the wheel.

Sabine: "This corner shall be taken at least at 160 KM/H. Don't steer to much, okay?"

Sabine: "This is where we spun out yesterday, right? Steer a bit early as you approach it. 200 KM/H is a safe speed to enter, then bury the accelerator."

Sabine: "After that gentle corner, brake immediately for Aremberg corner. Be gentle on the steering and pedals here."

Whoa! It's like corner after another! After high speed bursts, there is always danger incoming! She even teaches me what are the exact cornering speeds appropriate for each corner!

Sabine: "This is another high speed area. One of the few places in the track where you can overtake."

Nobuyuki: "But then the grass can kill you here."

Sabine: "Correct. It's a matter of guts when you overtake..."

Sabine: "You enjoy drifting, right? You Japanese invented it, right?"

Nobuyuki: "Ahahahahaha! Yes, it's true."


We are now at the famous Karrusell hairpin. It's harder than I thought!

Sabine: "This is one of the most important corners of the track! Don't play with its banked nature! 80 - 90 KM/H are the average speeds here of a normal car."

Nobuyuki: "You really are the Queen of The Nurburgring."

Sabine: "This is my second home, haha! I actually live nearby here. Sometimes, I get to hear the loud race car sounds at home."

We are now at the long straight. Such a beautiful view...

And the M5 is doing speeds of... 270... 280... Wow! The M5 is a heavy car, yet the engine can pull it to light speeds! She just shifted to 7th gear.

Sabine: "On a normal car, you have to slow down after that little uphill after that long straight. This is a very dangerous section. You can risk losing control here after that high speed braking."

She stops the timer, and she sets a lap time of 7 minutes and 42 seconds. No wonder this is one of the fastest four door cars of the Nurburgring! The M5 is truly a masterpiece, every single one of them!


Sabine: "I know you cannot master this track in one sitting, so I suggest you go here often and practice. Don't forget the tips, okay?"

Nobuyuki: "I'm very much honored to have you as my lecturer. I will take these tips into my heart. I will hone my skills here, don't worry. No wonder this track attracts a lot of enthusiasts. This is also an enthusiast's dream come true."

Sabine: "Thank you very much! I'm sure you will be a great racer someday, much like your father... and your brother was."

Someday... I'll be as great as them... I have to work hard.

Time: 3:00 pm

Takuma Sato: "Just a moment... Time to reach for the bluetooth."

Takuma Sato: "Yo, Takuma Kanonji! How are you?"

Takuma: "Oh it's you. Congratulations for your recent victory. Why did you call?"

Takuma Sato: "I'm currently in Monza, tearing up the track alone."

Takuma: "Even with Bluetooth, I just hope you don't crash while talking to me."

Takuma Sato: "Ahahahahahahahaha! Not gonna happen! I might be seeing you soon."

Takuma: "Okay. I'll be waiting."


He stops at the pit lane to take a break. He notices a crew at one of the pit garages.

Takuma Sato: "I'm not alone, huh?"

To his shock, he sees NH 2 getting in a red Audi R8 LMS.

Takuma Sato: "No... Nobuhiko Hiramoto!? He's alive?"

The red R8 sets off.

Takuma Sato: "No way! Everyone knows he died... But how did he survive?"

Location: Eifel, Germany
Time: 2:00 pm

NH 2: "Overtake analysis complete."

Lamborghini driver: "Whoa... wait, what's that green glowing light inside that Audi?"


Imitating Nobuhiko's trick in the past, NH 2 also taps the rear end of the Chapparral 2D Race car.

NH 2: "1st place. Initiating Pro mode..."

NH 2: "Opponent Driver Levels - Class B... Switching back to Sport mode."

Time: 4:00 pm


After a brief nap from Mom's shopping spree, I headed downstairs. And I hear Takuma-san's shouts at a room nearby. It turns out, that he is sparring once again with a punching bag, of course. Erm... isn't it a bit awkward for a guest to use the house owner's gym?

Nobuyuki: "Sparring, eh?"

Takuma: "Believe me, this can relieve stress and improve our body endurance for racing."

Nobuyuki: "Wow... I hope I am that good."

Takuma: "You know, your little brother won a karate competition back in Japan. I am really impressed with his karate prowess. Plus, he is even a parkour champion. At one point, he saved a cat from falling off a balcony. How did he do it? Well, he used a large trash bin as a stepping stone, jumped up, and scaled up the walls in order to save the cat. He shares the same fondness of cats as Takanori..."

Nobuyuki: "I wish I got to see those... Too bad fate didn't allow it."

Takuma: "Nobuhiko was such a great teammate. And actually, seeing you reminds me of him."
