Really? I wonder if Mother Nature will cooperate or raise Hell when GRC visits MoTown...

I think that the track will be one of the longest on the calendar, my guess anywhere from .9 to 1 mile

Here is a YouTube video I found featuring Round 1 of the GRC 2015 season from Fort Lauderdale. Enjoy:

Heads up! Are you watching NBC? The Global Rallycross Championship action from Daytona is airing as of right now.

[UPDATE] Tree'd...

You talk about all Hell breaking loose... this is just another day at the office for the Global Rallycross Championship. Especially the second race of this doubleheader was pretty insane. Congratulations to the winners of both Daytona races.

Up next is a little motorsports tribute to the troops when GRC races in Jacksonville, North Carolina at some military base.

I liked the 2nd Daytona race as that is RX in a nutshell. Plus I have always thought the Daytona course is very European compared to the parking lot courses we have had in the past. Next up is "The Base" at MCAS New River in North Carolina and my best guess is that it's going to be run on or around the airfield so the possible course designs is endless. I think that GRC also needs to go to Canada and support WorldRX at GP3R or WorldRX needs to have a U.S. Round, both ideas IMO will benefit the growing sport in big ways

Completely true. In fact, I've been asking them to do a Canadian round or two for a long time. Although I have also considered the idea of two Canadian rounds, one as a standalone event, possibly at Mosport or Circuit Gilles Villenueve and one as a joint weekend event with World RX. Perhaps if enough fans voice this, they might consider the idea for 2016.

EDIT: I imagine World RX will get a US event when A: They find a suitable track. (IE they go to Daytona or COTA) B: They have something resembling a good TV deal. Which GRC already has. (PS.BeIn Sport is terrible and frankly I'm not sure many people get it).

On Instagram, I saw a bit of the layout for the course in Jacksonville, North Carolina. It looks like the action will take place on an airport runway on this military base. There is a dirt section for which the Joker lap is after or before the table top. You can take a look at the layout here:

Good luck to all drivers and teams this Sunday.

Attended Lydden Hill for the World RX event earlier this year, and I'm off to Spain for the Barcelona event. Should be smashing fun.

Daniel Holten's Eklund Beetle for Höljes this weekend...

Major controversy in the Holjes Supercar Final. Hansen closed up about a second on Ekstroem in one corner on the final lap, and went for a dive - it payed off, and he won on the last corner.

Around 2 hours ago, Hansen was given a 5 second penalty, and the win was given to Ekstroem. The replay showed that he had one wheel on the kerb and 3 on the grass, which is legal - repeated abuse only gets a warning. All journalists and fans seem to unanimously agree that the move was legal, and I agree.

That's grey area. I see one wheel on two off and one I don't know. Either way, I was amazed Hansen was able to make up that much ground in less than one corner. Guess it was ruled too good to be true.

Anyway stateside, Good racing at the GRC MCAS New River race. The track was good. Racing was solid and it was cool that it was free. Hope they do something like this next year so I can plan a vacation around it.

Ken Block picked up the win at MCAS New River. This course seemed more like a good course to enjoy some high-speed racing rather than a lot of technical driving. The Joker section was in a pretty good place. Sandell, [2014-2015 Formula E World Champion] Piquet Jr., Dyne, and Arpin completed the Top 5 from the Final.

Up next for the Global Rallycross Championship... a trip to MoTown. GRC in Detroit on the weekend of July 25th.

Despite the controversy it was still a great Supercar Final and with a record 40,000 strong crowd attending, it demonstrates that the World RX series is growing round-by-round. Very impressed with Bakkerud finishing 3rd overall and Ford OMSE's performance throughout the weekend. Disappointment for Petter however after a bit of a torrid weekend. Worn tyres in the fourth heat coupled with uncharacteristic mistakes really wrote Sweden off for him.

Onwards to Canada in a couple of weeks time!

Heads up! At the top of the hour on NBC Sports Network, I noted Global Rallycross is on the schedule. My guess is that they'll show the most recent round from MCAS New River. I think this could be a new sort of tradition. Maybe they'll visit various other military bases and hold some Global Rallycross at these places around Independence Day weekend. This course was a real high-speed course rather than anything very technical.

I saw the end to that FIA World Rallycross race at Holjes race on YouTube. It seemed like rough racing, but it wasn't anything like (for example) the Risi Competizione vs. Flying Lizard GT2 finish in the 2007 12 Hours of Sebring, nor was it like Alex Zanardi's pass at Laguna Seca in 1996 in the Corkscrew. Hansen more wanted to muscle his way to the lead rather than try to wreck Ekström. That's my take on that finish in World Rallycross at Holjes. Heck of a finish, though!

Seems like the car to beat in rallycross is the Ford Fiesta. There have surely been a lot of the Fiestas that have competed in rallycross, let alone in Global Rallycross.

I was thinking a lot about the notion of Global Rallycross (or maybe even FIA World Rallycross) going to Canada. More the likely, there would be three race course candidates in my view to have some rallycross: Mosport, Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve, and Circuit Mont-Tremblant. I would boil this down to Mosport and Mont-Tremblant. The GRC races in Detroit for the next round of the 2015 GRC championship, but I want to imagine maybe Mosport play as a good Canadian venue for Global Rallycross. That is... unless a province other than Ontario or Quebec wants to host a GRC round. Maybe imagine a Canadian round not far from Vancouver, British Columbia for example. Or maybe a GRC event in Alberta. I'm just not counting on Global Rallycross at some makeshift courses in Northwest Territories or Nunavut.

These are just a few things that crossed my mind in regards to Global Rallycross. I even thought about where GRC would race if they went to Mexico, but not many venues come to mind. Maybe I'll discuss the Mexico possibilities of GRC racing in a future post.

Completely hit the nail on the head here. In fact I just asked them about the possibility of a Canadian or Mexican round. (Though I would prefer Hawaii-pearl harbor in particular-or Guam/other US territories.) Funnily enough, there is actually a short course truck track in Mexico right now. I'd imagine to get GRC there, all they would have to do is add some strategically placed asphalt sections like at Dirt Fish.

Wonder if we'll get any guest GRC cars/drivers as we did last year at GP3R.
You bet they will. Betting on Wiman, Foust, Block, and Team Subaru.

You know, Hawaii would be interesting. Who wouldn't want a little rallycross in paradise? I initially thought about a GRC race around maybe where the University of Hawaii/Hawai'i play their football games. But if they did that, I'm sure it would have to be some time before college football starts. An event would have to be somewhere in Honolulu. Or maybe they go the Big Island or some other famous Hawaiian locale. I'd be very interested in a Hawaiian course for Global Rallycross.

I was talking to @hsv who explained to me the difference in FIA WorldRX and USAC GRC Supercar classes, which leads me to this point. The GRC needs to adopt the FIA regs which in my opinion would allow for there to be more parody in the amount of manufacturers, which has been in decline in GRC, and also would allow for cars that run in the WorldRX to run in GRC after they brought over here by owners or if any one of those teams would want to run in a "Wild Card" type of entry. However there is things that GRC is doing right and that is bringing RX to the people, The venues that they choose are top notch for the US (But I think we do need some permanent RX circuits or layouts on some road courses) as they bring people to it in a major center whereas WorldRX for the most part are away from most urban centers. I just needed to rant a little and get my thoughts out

Actually I think the track should look like Tahiti Maze in GT or a realistic version of the Pacific Drive track of Ford Racing 3. Have a pavement section that incorporates local roads and scenery. Then a sand/beach section because that's what Hawaii is known for, then a dirt transition section. Or if its to be in Honolulu, then basically replicate the Shibuya track from Dirt 3. I would LOVE to see these things go rolling past the Hard Rock Cafe there. It would be quite a sight.
Videos.

Hmm. excellent. I thought GRC already had unified rules. What I'd like to see is for them to go back to Cooper tires like in Europe and for Chevy to Finally announce a factory Sonic program

Here are some concepts of American permanent RX Tracks. All of these will have European influences
Sonoma -Runs in a counter-clockwise direction and uses the drag strip as the start
and
Road America
