They manage to get to Canada and Argentina without a problem ...

Which probably puts a big enough dent in the finances already. And an Asia venue will be even more expensive in terms of travel costs. Of course, a US race can coincide with the Canadian or Argentinian round to keep the costs down.

It's also worth pointing out how Supercars are the only classes that can really make the long hauls, and even then the entries are down a considerable amount over the European rounds. It's not a cash cow like F1, they'll only realistically go to places where there is enough interest to warrant travelling there.

Good point. Rallycross is still a very niche sport, and it takes time for it to mature into a proper world spanning series. I think the way they are doing it atm is the right way. Most of the rounds in countries where the sport is already well established and draws good crowds, with the odd round in areas where the sport is just starting to get noticed, further fuelling the growth and popularity.

I wouldn't say it's a niche, rather it's just been solely based in one region of the world for almost 50 years. It's hard for any sport to introduce itself to a new market, it's just trial and error on what regions take to it or not.

I missed it. I didn't know the Global Rallycross action was televised from the Washington, D.C. event. Let's just say a first-time winner in GRC took the win in the GRC Supercar final. Not spoiling.

Up next for Global Rallycross... a doubleheader in Los Angeles next month. So bring on L.A. on September 13!

Oooweeeee! Volkswagen Rallycross DC was NUTS in person today. BTw, for anyone who watched today, I was the guy in the bright red "We are DC" shirt and glasses in case you saw me incidentally. Now to upload my views to my Youtube channel, (artrockpictures btw) in case anybody wants to see the race as the fans saw it

Did you go last year as well? I went last year but didn't this year. I have not had a chance to watch the broadcast yet either. How did you like the track layout this year versus the one last year? I know they expanded the circuit to nearly 1 mile this year and it was about a 1/2 mile last year. From where is was sitting last year( i sat along the front straightaway near where they had the giant temporary Red Bull tower last year) I could see probably at least 90% of the circuit. Really liked that about the 3 GRC races I went to last year (DC, NY, and Las Vegas), could pretty much see the entire track no problem at those races. I went to the Detroit round this year, and while I thoroughly enjoyed the event I was a little disappointed about how little of the circuit could be see from anywhere. I got spoiled last year with being able to see the whole track!!

It was better in every way this year than it was last year. The track this year was ALOT bigger, and had more right hand turns. The jump was bigger this year, seating was better, and the attendance was about the same, if not bigger than last year. It was great also seeing interesting cars like Pat Moro's Sonic. Frankly, the only thing that I didn't like was how hot it was. Otherwise, I hope they don't change a thing next year. (Well, maybe a night race or an actual water hazard LOL) but that's it.

I didn't see the Supercar events, but I did get to see the GRC Lites race on TV earlier today. The GRC Washington, D.C. course seemed pretty cool. It's a lot better among street/city courses than, say... the Fort Lauderdale course. I had no idea of the layout of the course. Wasn't sure how the course looked or where the Joker was. There was still a good show put on at this event.

I'm pretty sure that the Washington circuit shared elements with the Le Mans circuit that they tried to get up and running back in 2002 as the "Grand Prix of Washington DC".

Correct. This year's track was built on top of the old GP track. Some of the corners were in fact the very ones that constituted the GP track. That's also why it was bigger this year.

This Hansen heat walkover thing is becoming a bit of a theme.

So, I watched the GRC from Washington and the WRX in Hell back-to-back and I have to say that the WRX was infinitely superior. The limited grid size in the GRC seriously limits the lasting appeal of the series - they go through several rounds for the sake of eliminating just two cars, and the joker lap thins the field out too much too quickly. At least the WRX has a large grid, a format that rewards consistency and tries to match up drivers based on skill and performance, and a joker lap that allows for strategy variation.

World RX is the kind of rallycross that's been going on for 50 years, GRC is a bad attempt at reinventing it.

Well, WRX had a massive head start on GRC. GRC has only existed in its current form since 2010. Also, while World RX has a better on track product, GRC is better at getting its product to the airwaves it seems. Either way, I like both series equally.

What a fantastic event we had at Loheac! The spectacular elimination of Wilks on the first day, as well as Doran having the pace but two suspension failures was very interesting.

Davy Jeanney and Andreas Bakkerud coming to blows in the semi-final really livened things up, and Hansen absolutely dominated the final to take two wins from two rounds and close up on Solberg's championship lead.

You can hear my full rundown of the event here, it starts at the five minute mark: https://www.spreaker.com/user/jakesanson/debrief-yelloly-stoneman-da-costa-bratt

The next round is at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, and I will be attending the event on behalf of Downforce Radio to gather some interviews and other content. Very much looking forward to it!

This weekend will be the continuation of the 2015 Global Rallycross Championship in Los Angeles. It's a doubleheader, so there are two great chances to notch up some victories. This should be another crazy set of races as the GRC can provide.

Looked like it was a good weekend for the GRC, I just wish they had better coverage in the UK.

As some of you may be aware, I will be at the Barcelona RX this weekend for Downforce Radio, and I've already got interviews lined up with Solberg, Doran, Nitiss, Bakkerud, Timerzynanov, Ekstrom, Marklund, Hansen, Jeanney and Scheider.

If there's anything you'd like me to ask to any of the drivers, let me know and I will see what I can do!

Petter Solberg increases his championship lead after his victory at the Barcelona RX today. :)

Hansen actually closed his lead by two points to Solberg.

---

I had a fantastic time at the Barcelona RX last weekend. Absolutely stunning weather, scenery, atmosphere and accessibility, which is always a great plus point with the World RX Championship. As you know, I was there as media and managed to interview the following personalities throughout the weekend:

Davy Jeanney
Kenneth Hansen
Timmy Hansen
Andreas Bakkerud (twice)
Reinis Nitiss
Paul Coleman (of Codemasters)
Tanner Foust
Ollie O'Donovan
Mattias Ekstrom
Robin Larsson
Petter Solberg

Here's a few photos from the weekend:
