So does this mean that people can no longer ask about jailbreaking Android devices, since it would now be off-topic?

Go a head! I cant help but i think i have a friend who can help.

Well, as this is an Apple devices thread that talks about the primarily Apple process of jailbreaking, then that's what it should be about.

"Jailbreaking" Android devices is "rooting" and we have a thread for that here.

I am going to jailbreak an iPhone 4 soon using Redsn0w, the iPhone is not mine so how big is the chance of the system to get stuck? Jailbreaking my iPod Touch went fine but im just curious.

How come is jailbreaking a PS3 subject to lock and jailbreaking a phone isnt? cant we do whatever we want with the gear we buy? as long as we dont use them for piracy?

(I think) because of the whole thing with geohot and the whole psn hack thing that went on :scared: really not shure though

Sorry but honestly I'm done with hacking etc sadly i am an ex-hacker, almost got be banned :/ so I gave it up.

Saying that though, i will join. I have a large amount of knowledge on this sort of stuff.

Because one is legal and one isn't. I'll leave you to work out which is which.

I'd like to say one is legal and the other in is in the grey as far as being legal goes. And that is mostly in the US due to the DMCA; it quite likely varies in other countries based on their own copyright laws.

Though it really doesn't matter because I believe Jordan has stated he didn't want people discussing details of the PS3 Jailbreak.

Because of the big stink sony had over it :indiff:

Lets see, every COD game, GTA, MCLA, RDR, I was going to do PS home but thought best not to and a couple of other little bits on my PS3 XMB.

If I know what I'm doing I'm good.

Actually I never went into public games with it. Always private.

Also we're kinda going off topic now.

Just don't call yourself a hacker, or an ex-hacker, because you never were a hacker. Script kiddie at best, and even that would be a bit of a stretch. Anyone with access to Google can easily do those things.

Cheating != hacking.

I won't even start to explain what me and my mate did because hardly any of you will understand.

Now run along and stop trying to act big ok :)

Oh my. You couldn't figure the size of your HDD on a PS3 without asking for help here. So please do tell me what it is any of us would hardly understand.

Not trying to act big, just pointing out how silly it sounds to call sideloading some stuff onto a PS3 "hacking," especially given how easy it has been shown to do this from thumb drives.

So if I buy a PS3 and jailbreak it, someone is going to sue me because I want to use the hardware my own way? and if I break it only (tear it appart?) that makes no sence to me... piracy is one think and jailbreaking another...

The only think that happens to someone who jailbreaks is PS3 in my country(legally wise) is the void of waranty and PSN block... unless you use it to play retail games you downloaded illegally.

Just for the record I dont even know how to do it and wouldnt do it if I knew because of the online gaming but in my country there is no such law... I could even tear it appart an make a PC or a washing machine out of it... it is mine I payed for it...

Ah okay, thanks; I'd forgotten about that thread.

Just why is jailbreaking/rooting a PS3 illegal? Yeah, Sony doesn't want you to do it, but what actual laws are broken?

No, they're not going to sue you. They're just going to throw you in prison (assuming it really is illegal). Along which lines, has anyone ever been successfully prosecuted for jailbreaking a PS3?

BobK your post is too long to quote but it's true, think of all the people today with a JB PS3, Is Sony going to throw all of them in prison, I don't think so. :)
