Internet tough guy over here. Would be more convincing if you had actually contributed.

As for Android devices, Google actually encourages that community by making their mobile platforms open to the public and fairly easy to load.

I dont care if this becomes a android and iphone jailbreak thread but no ps3 jailbreaking.

Whoa there. Nobody's discussing how to jailbreak a PS3 or anything like that, and if they were the mods would already have acted. The question has come up as to whether or not it's legal, that's all, and if so, what law in particular makes it illegal.

It's a question which has been bugging me for years, how come jailbreaking on the iPhone is legal yet jailbreaking the PS3 is not? Can someone please explain why because the potential for piracy is the same on both so thats not the reason. Cydia goes and makes quite a lot of money from its paid apps yet the PS3 people go to jail!

If memory servers me well, Sony is still fighting it in court. At present in Australia for example there is a court injunction in place to stop the retailing of USB dongles which jailbreak the PS3.

Anyone who accepted the T&C's of a software update on the PS3 since however long ago agreed not to jailbreak their PS3 and that they were subject to something or other if they did and Sony found out.

Oh the Jailbreak. How I love it.

Although, I haven't really used it a lot, other than for emulators a handy improvement called Retinapad (Upscales iPhone apps to look nicer on the iPad).

I would like to fully discover what the JailBreak can do.

Would anyone be able to explain it in lame-mans terms? :D

the jailbreak gives you accsess to the full file system of your device, you can edit add or delete any file on the memory system, using Mobile Substrate ( code insertion platform ) you can modify the home screen, lock screen, and even do custom theams like on and android device through apps like barrel ( app swipe animation changer ) or winterboard ( custom theaming ) also there are widgets and other tweaks / mods available, just check google, youtube, and cydia's featured section for great apps. Best thing I ever did to my iPod touch: Jailbreaking

Hmm.. I would go all out on the JailBreak for my school iPad, but I don't want anything bad to happen to it.

I have an iPhone 3, but it's awfully slow, if I jailbroke it, would I be able to improve the running speed? As well as allow it to update to iOS 5?

iOS 5 would crush an iPhone 3 I feel, just because what it is.

You should have a smooth running experience with a jail break setup, and it pretty much no risk at this point.
