iPhone 5

Releases between each iteration of the iPhone tend to be about 1 year, and no one knows what Apple will do next, but they'll likely release the next iteration of the iPhone around a year from now.

So... other manufacturers make better products that cost less but you have to keep going with Apple because you've swallowed the hook, the line and the sinker already. I think you've just perfectly explained the business model Apple is relying on - it doesn't really matter what they make, people are basically forced to buy it anyway.

It's the same the other way around. You would hesitate to go from Android to iPhone due to the investment you've done in apps and the whole ecosystem. You're screwed any which way you look at it.

^ Not entirely... Going from Android to iPhone I lost a lot of apps which I purchased (music I got through iTunes easily copied over to my Android phone though)... But the transition was quite easy. Copy all contacts and info to my google account through iTunes and then sync through my Android phone. With Android it is also much easier to get paid Apps for free without having to root or jailbreak like with the iPhone. So in reality going from Android to iPhone you don't really lose much, but you'll have to pay for everything again with Apple. Going from iPhone to Android you do lose a lot if youve purchased a lot of apps from Apple. I hope that was easy to follow.. :P

I think regarding buying apps as an 'investment' is stupid anyway. You always lose stuff when moving from one platform to the other, whether that be from iOS to Android, vice versa or to WP8 or Blackberry. (Or Windows vs Linux vs OSX on PC). I don't hear anyone complaining they can't use their Xbox 360 games on the PS3 or vice versa.

And Android being easier to pirate, is that a good thing or a bad thing for the platform as a whole?

^ It's good and bad of course... But as an example... Full version of Whatsapp on Android is free in the Play store and for iPhone you have to pay in the App Store. There are a couple more apps that fit this example, but can't think of them right now.

You could make a shortened/extended list of any phone just so you know, or really an product for that matter. I'm sure I could make a list that showed an apple (fruit) has more features than an iPhone and vice versa.

I think my biggest problem with the S3 is that it's a Samsung, I'm really good not owning a Samsung product.

It's not about who has the bigger feature list, it's about the features you use and how well they are executed/implemented. For instance, it's nice that one phone has twice the processing power and memory than the other, but if that doesn't translate to it being better usable/significantly faster in real life, it means nothing.

I would be genuinely interested in seeing a list of things that the iPhone 5 has that the S3 can't match. Just out of curiosity really as the Samsung ad is obviously going to appear in Samsung's favour, it's designed to sell phones.

I won't go in to how many of those have an Android equal on even the oldest handsets but that's exactly what I was looking for, cheers. 👍 Did you make it?

EDIT: What's Flyover?

Its something I saw on twitter a few days ago, and yeah there are a lot of android equivalents there.

Flyover, in my understanding, is the new maps satnav feature that gives you basically the same view as a TomTom does (maps are provided by them) and allows you to fly ahead to different points of your journey. Or something like that at least.

Ah, like browsing the route before you get there?

Some think like that yeah, if it will work in the UK is a different matter though, I'm hoping that Apple have finally got Siri working fully outside of the USA!

My Nokia 5800 did something that sounds very similar to that...

All these feature lists are useless. Most things out there that Android has, iPhone has some sort of equivalent nowadays (yes, even ones using Google services). Same thing with the iPhone, "special features" that iPhone has, Android has some sort of equivalent. There are very few things out there anymore that one OS has uniquely that the other doesn't. For those "unique" features, most of it will make their way to the next release of the competition's OS anyways.

They are, in reality, so similar in terms of feature set that it's down to the look and feel, and that, is all personal preference.

Personnaly, since i'm a bit of a rough guy that doesnt take too much care of his things, I already sees the problem wiht the Samsung phone, the build quality is wayyyyyyyy behind the Iphone. It's not been one year since I bought my SII and the center button is already starting to messing up. Sure my SII hit the ground one or two times, but my 3GS which is still working after 2 and a half year, has felt 2 set of stone stairs and had nothing broken. The only issue I have with Iphone is that you can't change your battery easely.

You should see my Galaxy S. I don't think there's a corner on it that's not smashed.

Well payment has been taken for my iPhone 5 yesterday. Can't wait.

Why would you look forward to a lawsuit? The only people that wind up getting hurt are consumers.

I cannot believe the gushing coming from tech reviewers about the iPhone, how can they be so ecstatic about what is probably one of the most disappointing products to come out of Apple ever! Sure its by no means bad but its hardly the second coming in mobile devices! Do people just not properly critique Apple products any more?

For anyone interested, iOS 6 is being released in about 5 minutes.

Not happy about not all iOS 6 features are coming to all eligible older devices such as Siri. It's just to lock you into buying the new one because jailbreaks have proven it works fine.
