I've been considering the Wheel Stand Pro since it seems like the best fit and appears to be of very good construction. However, in the demo video on eBay, it looks like the wheel and shifter move around quite a bit as the driver steers and shifts. Is that actually okay, or does it make driving harder?

If the cadillac promo is still working, it is the best promo since you get three months and three tracks for free. I got in when it was six months for free. Great deal.

I use a Rennsport wheel stand which works great for me.

edit: the shakiness of the wheel stand pro in videos was exactly why I went with the rennsport but I've never heard of anyone complain about the wheelstand pro.

Hmm. According to the Fanatec website, the Rennsport requires an adaptor of some kind to fit Fanatec shifters. I was sort of hoping to avoid having to buy a separate adapter.

I don't get it. the wheelstand pro costs more but comes with an adaptor or you pay less for the rennsport and then a little more for the adaptor. They probably end up costing the same.

Check out Grandstand, it's made from 80/20 aluminum extrusion, I've been looking at getting one for a long time but I haven't pulled the trigger since money is tight right now

Well I can't seem to find anyone who sells the Rennsport wheel stand. Fanatec themselves don't, they are only accepting pre-orders for their next gen wheel stand, which doesn't help me now.

I'm also curious how people feel about stands with a central pole used with a 3-pedal configuration. Doesn't the central pole sort of block access to the brake pedal?

I use a centre pole wheel stand and manage just fine, it's not ideal but I just set my peddles a bit to the left and its worked for me.

Please forgive what might be a stupid question, but if a racing wheel has paddle shifters, what do I need a stick shift for?

Some people like to use the stick to make it more realistic(for cars that are actually stick in real life) and some like flappy paddle. So it's a matter of personal preference.

That and also in iRacing the game automatically sets the stick on in cars that use the stick in real life.

I just realized I misspelled my last post

It's GranStand so you can google it properly (if you're interested it has no center post). And it supports alll major wheels (Logitech, Fanatec, and Xbox 360) and it's totally collapsible for storage.

No it doesnt. You choose what shifter you want for all the cars in the options and you have to click the custom controls box for each car if you like to use different shifters for each car or re set it up each time. I use my paddles for all the cars since I don't have a shifter.

Except if you choose to use an h pattern shifter and enter a car with sequential. You won't be able to use the h pattern but will have to use whatever you selected for the sequential.

I see. Didn't know that since I've never had a shifter so I've always used paddles and it just automatically put all my cars to that.

Wheelstand pro doesn't really move that much at all...I use it daily for my racing and I am very competitive with it. You have to think that your foot/feet are always on the base when you are in a race so you can keep it floored with your driving foot while still doing everything with your arms and hands. I haven't had any stability issues or moving, it's surprisingly sturdy for what it is.

Well I finally got all my gear assembled and I created my iRacing account (I used the Cadillac promotion to get the three free months and the free car). Now I just gotta learn how to drive this thing!

My rig is a fairly modest affair: Fanatec Forza CSR wheel, CSR Elite pedals, and H shifter, all mounted to a WheelStand Pro Deluxe. Everything is updated, calibrated, and configured, and it all seems to work okay (tested it with a street stock car on the centripetal track).

So far so good!

Good luck. So you can confirm that the Cadillac promotion still works? Do you still get Sonoma, Mosport and mid Ohio with it?

I can confirm that it works, but it only provides three free months of service and one free car. No free tracks.

So to clarify you don't have mid ohio, sonoma, or canadian tire..... Mosport (I don't remember the whole new name)

Cadillac Promo comes with

Cadillac CTS-V
Legends '34
MX-5
Pontiac Solstice
Spec Racer Ford
Street Stock

Tracks

Charlotee
Lanier
Lime Rock
Laguna Seca
Okayama
Oxford Plains
South Boston
Summit Point
Thompson Intl
USA International

Sonoma, mid ohio and mosport were originally included so that you could do the entire rookie cadillac series without buying a track. I guess there is no need for that now that the rookie cadillac series is gone. I got in when you got the tracks and 6 months free. Great deal.

Does anyone have any advice on how to lower the resistance, particularly for the sideways direction of motion, of a Fanatec CSR H-shifter? Mine is pretty stiff, and because of the (sideways) force it takes to shift into or out of any gear except 3rd<->4th, the mounting plates of my WheelStand Pro get worked loose little by little over time. I know there is no convenient resistance adjustor built into it like there is for the upcoming Clubsport shifter, but I thought maybe users of the CSR shifter might have come up with some clever tricks/hacks.

I use the wheelstand pro daily and I've had no difficulties with the movement causing any adverse actions on my driving. It may look like it moves a lot, but when you are actually at the wheel, it's nearly unnoticeable. Personally I love it because if I want to use my computer for something other than sim racing, I can just pick it up and move it out of the way.
