I get your disappointment on this. The rule calls for a 30 second time penalty - which would be way too harsh for this scenario.
That being said - it's difficult to know how the race would have developed had the incident not occurred. One can only consider the incident at the time and its impact at the cars involved given the rules as they were at the time. I concluded that some time penalty was in order because to award no penalty was inappropriate as well. All that could be weighed was the mitigating factor that there was opportunity to communicate between the drivers.
You have to remember as well that by not putting and waiting additional time for him to take repairs you most likely recouped a good amount of lost time. At least 5 seconds, no?
You have worked hard and have been driving really well. You've also gotten faster at the same time. I believe you will continue to do so and these types of situations will soon be a thing of the past.
Going forward I will be reviewing and likely revising the rules to try and address some of the issues raised by this incident.
Namely:
- How a striking driver can be informed whether the driver of the damaged car intends to pit for damage repair. Use of hazard lights may be our best option in that regard.
- Making the time penalty smaller. Perhaps a max of 10 seconds?
The matter of the time penalties the game was giving out has to be addressed as well. It was ridiculous what was going on.
For race 4 all penalties will be off. It makes me nervous but we can't have what the game is doing continue
