Is FGT winnable without babysitting?

I left bob alone for all races bar Cote D'Azur were I nursed him around for 5 laps to go from 7th to 3rd.
I quit Suzuka because the rain was terrible but I had already a massive points difference so it was alright.(he won all races except Cote D'Azur and Suzuka)

The round at the Nurburgring was the worst B-Spec experience I have ever had. On the final lap, some AI driver made a swift move over to the right hand side of the track to make a pit stop, consequently running into Bob and spinning him out of control at the last turn, sending him into the sand. I wasn't worried, because he had a 2 or so lap lead on the field, but unfortunately Bob wasn't able to get out of his situation at the last turn and constantly reversed back and forth into the barrier at the apex of the corner.

3 minutes later, Bob lost his 2 lap lead and ended up finishing in last position. I was livid.
