is gt2 really the best

ok when gt1 came out i played it for hours, when gt2 came out i seriously has never left my ps1 except when switching between sim. and arcade, then when gt3 came out i cryed, i seriously still think that one was a failer. yes i got better grafics but it seems that there was less cars, atleast of the ones i wanted and the i dont think there was as many tracks im not sure but i didnt enjoy it after about the races, i just when i had a ps2 i remember taking gt3 out throwing it behind me and putting gt2 in so ya. im not saying anything about gt4 because in order for me to play that one id have to buy a new ps2 and the game, im poor. ok anyways one more thing do any of you think a gameboy advance version of gt2 should surface or not, or has it (game informer sub ran out a long time ago) anyways i want to know if you guys think gt2 is the best in the series besides gt4 which i havent had the pleasur of mastering

I don't think any one of them can be called ‘the best’. They all have stuff that the others don't. For instance, GT2's got loads of cars that can be race modified, whereas GT3 & 4 don't. GT1 is the most advanced game in terms of its overall difficulty, yet it's too heavily Japanese orientated for my tastes. I just started GT3 this weekend and altho I have mixed feelings about the lack of cars, I really love this game. I won't be putting it behind me! As much as i love the variety of GT2, I'm ready for better graphics, more sophisticated camera work, so I'm already a fan of GT3 and I've barely completed the Sunday Cup.

I don't think there's ever been a GT2 for Gameboy, nor will there be...isn't that Nintendo? So to answer your question, I can't say GT2 is the best. If it had the things missing from the first game (turbo boost gauge, engine power graphs + gearing charts, a car wash that actually worked, qualifying, more attention overall to detail...) then I would say that it would be my personal fave. But there's just too many lacks in GT2.

Sorry, I know this is the GT2 forum but the question was asked. GT1 is the best because of it's overall gameplay. GT2 has more cars and more of the rarer European and American models, however it has too many cars that are either the same or very similar. How many Skylines do we need? The graphics suffered because of all the cars that were made available and the gameplay suffered as well. GT3 gave us great graphics but the car numbers were less and we lost the ability to R mod them? I also belive the gameplay suffered as well. GT4 I can't comment on as I don't own the game, however readin some of the opinons of respected members of this forum it seems that it has it's let downs as well.

GT2 is the best GT game ever IMO. The best part fo GT2 is the Racing costumazation 👍 'Nuff said! ;)

I'm gonna miss that race customizing. That's odd they left it out, but then-it probly would take several months to program all that stuff and get it right so maybe that's why.

TMM I'm finding that the gameplay hasn't suffered from GT2 to GT3. It actually feels quite similar in lots of ways, the main difference is that everything is more sophisticated. It takes getting used to, but (for instance) I raced at Rome & Deep Forest last nite and found that all the braking points and stuff are the same...and I could pull all my usual cornering tricks...yep, still there!

Hey! GT4 is out! (You do know that don't you?)

Parts of it are markedly more difficult than GT1. It's the first game in the series where aerodynamics isn't a magic elixir which makes all cars exceedingly easy to drive, even immensely powerful ones. And there's no strapping on a turbo spec 4 to beat Mission 34.

What GT1 really had going for it was a concise, well-defined, well-balanced "simulation mode", and nice touches like excellent best-time record-keeping (well, excellent compared to subsequent games). It is arguably the most difficult of the first three, although I also believe the gold license tests are harder in the later games.

Another thing that makes GT1 easy is the physics model. You can learn corners by going too fast and steering harder, which simply causes you to lose a little time rather than losing control. So you can more easily "zero-in" on correct cornering speeds by trial-and-error. E.g. for gold license tests.

I know GT4 is out Sporty, but I don't have $50 to burn, and chances are I'll only be spending a few months in GT3 world, anyways (I'll get bored with the lack of cars)...I already know that!

GT2 is my favorite game of all-time. I've never spent so much time playing a game. I loved the cars, it had great tracks, and of course Racing Modification. I've played both GT3 and GT4 but still maintain that GT2 is easily the best in the series, despite the difference in graphics.

i dunno. gt3 was kinda good. gt2 was tough, and gt1 was a breeze. so its wild card

Uhhhh, GT2...tough? GT1...a breeze? Sounds like you got those backwards there buddy. Perhaps you used a 900 hp car in GT1 or something.

Saleen: I agree about the ‘length of time’ comment you made, I've never spent so much time on any videogame as GT2. This is a year & 4 months now. Even after all this time, there are still a lot of cars that I'm curious about but haven't touched, yet. There are a few I'll never get to. I find that despite the grainy graphix, I can ‘go back’ to GT2 from GT3. I go to bed at nite and wake up dreaming about some of the cars in that game. Totally obsessed!

Ever thought about councilling for you problem???!!!

i never owned gt1 so i cant say much about it, gt2 i love for various reasons, mainly car selection. gt3 is ok but not enough cars. i think gt4 is great cause of the graphics and realism, plus the picture mode and driving missions and i guess it has the same ammout (or more) cars than gt2. but i cant decide which i like more

Hasn't that already been done?

I don't think so, but we should start a new one anyway, and keep it open indefinitely, and make sure you can vote for more than 1 game, I sure will.

:dopey: I'm afraid that GT4 is superior to GT2 in every way shape and form. When considering the time difference between the games, It's my opinion that GT4 makes better use of the aging Playstation system resources than does GT2 on the PSX. GT2 is altogether better than GT1 and GT3, but it's far behind its next-gen equivalent.

I liked GT, I liked GT2 more, I liked GT3 because of better graphics, but when I heard that GT4 has politically corrected rally modes (Special Conditions? What the *BEEP* is special conditions? A race for handicapped people?!), and a stupidly set up rally, it sank my want for GT4. I'll stick to 2 on my laptop (or on my PSX when I pull it out).

I think GT has the best gameplay, GT2 has the best variety, and GT3/4 have the best graphics.

My vote is for GT2!

Yes, but does GT4 have a used car lot...do you have that feeling of searching for a car in just that right color and then one day you finally find it? Can you take a crappy $4,000 Supra and turn it into a superstar, complete with race decals and modifyable downforce? Ahhh, just a couple areas that the 2nd game has #4 beat!

I gotta agree with you on the aging system comment--GT2 is a step down from #1 in so many ways; wheras it sounds like GT4 is a step up from 3.

Well, actually GT4 does have a used car lot, three of them in fact. One lot is for cars from before the '80s, one is 1980 through 1989 and one is 1990 through 2000. The lots rotate once a week, but for the most part contain the same autos in different colors, although rare cars also exist. No racing decals though (Racing modifications were an awesome feature of GT2 that I somehow don't miss a great deal, although it would be great if implemented again with better graphics 👍 )
Modifable downforce is achieved via buying a wing. You get an invisible chin spoiler as well as part of the deal. :yuck:

So true, although I wouldn't call GT2 a step down from GT1. (Only if speaking chronologically) It's just on the same level in many ways.

I play the original GT more any other game in the series. Matter of fact, I still have my original GT game. My vote goes to GT. GT2 had more of everything, more tracks, more cars, more needless duplication of car models, and more needless races. (the station wagon cup anyone?) Rally racing felt tacked on. GT3 is more of the same, been there done that type of feeling with better graphics. GT4, I have, but I haven't played it enough to judge.

I sort of think the people at Volvo were expecting there to be Station Wagon Cup in GT4...

simple answer: NO!!!!!!

GT4 has more cars, GT1 is the best anyway, GT3 is more realistic than GT2, all three other games look better. So GT2 doesn't have that much going for it any more. Its still a good game though

Very well, I stand corrected. Now I'm REALLY looking forward to GT4.

The station wagon cup was the best idea since sliced bread! :dunce:
