is gt2 really the best

The station wagon cup was the best idea since sliced bread! :dunce:

Yeah, no doubt. I <3 the station wagon series myself. My only issue with it is they shoulda had it on some other tracks. Rome Short and Super speedway? That's kinda lame...they shoulda done Rome Nite and Seattle or Red Rock!

I'd have all the races at Seattle and Red Rock! Alas, it's not to be.
Anyone else hate Tahiti?

Ha ha, well I try and keep an open mind. I don't hate any of the tracks in GT2, tho I think Tahiti is definitely the WORST looking track. The clouds in the distance look pretty cool but everything else looks like it was drawn out of a child's coloring book.

What I DO hate is how some of the AI DRIVES these tracks. Seattle short & Rome Short are the worst--it seems every chance they get they'll try and ram you from the inside, and the straights aren't very long so you don't often get a chance to get ahead of these pests.

You may find the following thread of interest.

Gran Turismo - A comparison across the series

It looks at the handling/physics engine of each of the games in the series across the main drive-line types (FWD, FR, MR and 4WD) through a series of tests.

Hope you find it of interest.

Regards

That sure was interesting! Gotta say I didn't read the GT4 part of your comparison just 'cause I don't have the 4th game yet and any GT4 info is like a spoiler to me, but that was cool reading how each game evolved. I do lots of track testing too, but I never thought of doing a brake test! So you've inspired me to start doing my own from 100 mph. (go to www.gtcarreviews.com to see my website....or you can just click where it says ‘website’ below this message).

I haven't returned to GT1 in about a year so I've forgotten how those cars handled.

In 1991, the Integrale Evoluzione (or Evo 1) was released and hosted a dizzying array of improvements that i'm too lazy to type.
I literally laughed when I saw that. 'Tis a good website.
Edit: Actually, you know what? This is one of the best quotes ever:

“YO MAN, I CLEeNED UP AT DEEP FORSET IN MY 900 HP GTO!!!!!! NOW I GUNNA GET ALL GOLD!!!! MY DOPE CAR ISMAADE IT TO 430 KM ON DA TEST TRACK!1 MY GTO LAPPED THE DRONES IN AD 9 TIMES DUDE/ I O w N e D” Well of course you did, stupid, your car had 900 ******* horsepower! In real-life they'd put a cap on your @$$ so you'd actually have to ******* drive for a win. Idiot.

His website is rather awesome, ain't it? Each review was obviously time-consuming, but paid off in an unparalleled degree of funny. And about the quote, the best one is in my sig. ;)
Parnelli: consider automotive journalism as a career choise.

Aww, you guys are too kind. I am a failed writer, can't you tell? :) The only reason I started writing all those reviews is because I kept going on the 'net looking for a site that went into detail with each car, and I couldn't find it..but I kept looking anyways. Finally found one called http://members.tripod.com/~KingSpon/gt and there's another one that isn't as detailed but I'll dig up the url later.

That DEEP FORSET quote is dedicated to all the cheaters who come on the 'net posting stuff with horrible grammar and spelling--totally missing the best part of the Gran Turismo games. We had one posting here in GTPLanet recently... tho I'm not giving any names! :embarrassed:

You don't need to. It's pretty obvious as to who it is...either way, failed writer or not, you still blew a goodly amount of time to write them.

:grumpy:

Kinda off topic, but i've written a couple of novel-sized stories. One of them sucks but the other is good. I should do something with it, it's way funnier than any of those car reviews.

Type 'em up and publish them online, if you haven't done so already! (at least the good one). It'll make for a goodly read. All this talk about writing made me go back and review a few more GT4 cars. Note that my reviews are much more brief, contain no outside research and are generally devoid of funny sarcasm. :yuck: And congrats on the Diamond Member tag.

This thread has gone way off topic, so I'll answer the question one more time: NO!

"is gt2 really the best" ?

I don't know if it's the best, but one thing is sure: GT2 is THE videogame I played the most in my life ( and I'm still playing it ).
Just for a reference: I own GT1,GT2, GT3, GT4, Enthusia, F1 challenge, Richard Burns Rally, Grand Prix Legends.

Yeah, me too. GT2 is definitely the most-played game for me

GT2: a year and 6 months
GT1: 3 or 4 months

GT2: a year and 6 months
GT1: 3 or 4 months

Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3, Last Revelation: 2 or 3 months each game

Faxanadu (1st Gen Nintendo, 1989 or so): about a month

Resident Evil Director's Cut: about a month, tho i kept restarting the game over the course of a year.

Adventure (Atari 2600 in the mid 1980's): I played this retarded game for several years, but to complete it only takes an hour at most.

Tunnel runner, Mind Master, Haunted House, Dark Chambers (atari 2600/7800): ditto.

I consider GT2 to be the longest-running game. Even tho i completed it 3x now, i still haven't tried all teh cars in it..i doubt i've even driven half of them!

In your list of antiques, GT2 pretty much HAS to be the best, lol.

I agree...

On top of my list of most played games comes GT2 and Geoff's Crammond GP2 for the PC, not sure which one i've played more... and Neverwinter Nights coming after them.
But now i think there might be a new candidate to the top... GTR (PC game).

Haven't played GT4 though...

My most-played game has to be Heroes of Might and Magic III for the PC ('99)

The Gran Turismo series is not far behind, and

I've played my fair ~400 hour share of the Final Fantasy games as well. ;)

Ahhh... another RPG fan... 👍 :)

I've also played Final Fantasy VII and VIII, Baldur's Gate I and II, Icewind Dale I and II, Fallout 1 and 2.
My favorite RPG is Baldur's Gate II, even if I didn't played as much as Neverwinter.
Liked alot of FFVIII, and like GT2, I've also played on PSX and then replayed on PC, but for some reason i don't like to get to the end of that game... i took more than 130~150 hours to finish it each time i've played it...

I love RPGs, but lately FF X and X-2 have been annoying me in an otherworldly fashion - the former is pretty tough towards the end (although the rest of it is sooo easy compared to former FF games), and the latter is just plain annoying. VIII is my favorite also, closely followed by Tactics. IX is a classic, but I'm not too much into VII.
For other RPG's, I've played lots of Diablo, some WoW, Icewind Dale 2, and Morrowind, but currently I'm enjoying Champions of Norrath for the PS2, a great game overall. Heroes III is more of a fantasy RPG/turn-based strategy hybrid than a pure RPG like Elder Scrolls, and I love it. ;)

Could never get into Final Fantasy...it's got too many space-age weapons in it. I prefer something more traditional. I really liked Legends of Dragoon, tho.

Man this is getting way off topic, oh well. I like exploring Champions of Norrath with my 10-year old nephew. I was playing it by myself for a while, actually manuvering 2 characters (one with each hand, yup). but after awhile i got bored with it. Some of the levels are awesome (like battling the orcs, goblins, and skeletons) but some are sooo stupid (save the kittens comes to mind.)

Who cares if it's off topic, heh? I don't think anyone admins these boards anyways. A lot of the game's pretty cool. I especially like some of the visual level designs, like small things the producers put in there: little crabs or lizards or rats running around on the ground, or how everything is different underwater. The tropical, desert, ice, and swamp levels are awesome. Enemies are nice and varied as well. I played pretty much all day sunday and pumped my female barbarian from lvl. 29 to lvl. 37. Started Champion difficulty, too. Have you tried playing online? I can't get an internet connection goinng, even when I plug the damn PS2 strait to my modem... Of course the game isn't to blame. It has enough bugs as it is. ;-( I recently put a Calmed Cloudy Orb (makes your weapon speed "Godly") into my newfound kickass rare sword and now it's a lot less useful - I can't "tap" the X button anymore, since few hits register that way. This and a lot of other problems like load-times, falling through levels, warped items, and random bugs like that. :banghead:

On Final Fantasy. You should try IX or Tactics (Strategy) if you like traditional RPGs. IX is excellent in the nostalgic sense. Look it up on a gaming site. :)

Legend of Dragoon was pretty cool! I was actually surprised that it got such low ratings when I saw them. It's a neat game all around. :nervous:

Do you have a Gamespot account? I'm an officer in the Gran Turismo union, whose boards tend to be pretty lifeless. :yuck:

Does anybody remember the 'Eye of the Beholder' series for PC. I own all 3 but I only completed the first two but they good RPG games.

TMM: nope, haven't tried that.

MacR: Are those on PS2? I don't have a PC.

FW: I tried FF8 last. It's got AMAZING graphics but I'd rather fight an ogre with a sword...not some alien creature with a laser gun. So I'll look into FF9.

Haven't been to GTunion, perhaps I'll check it soon.

So true! :embarrassed:
Progress: Barbie's level 40! 500 damage/hit, 1500 with Bash, up to 16000 if I get a critical hit with bash meanwhile using maxed out Ancesteral Call.

Too bad my sword sucks silly...

Oh... well nevermind then... there's the "Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance" for PS2 but it's not like the others, not made by the same ppl...
From the reviews i saw, it seems to be more an "hack 'n' slash" type of rpg, unlike the others... don't know if you like that..
I never played it...

Let me put it to you this way: occasionally in Champions of Norrath, you have to undress the characters as you upgrade their armor. And I ain't undressing no dude. Blea
