If you want intense aggressive fast racing with good physics (close to gt5 with some tuning-in ) then buy it . to compare gt5 to shift 2 would be like comparing sitting on a A380 airbus to sitting next to Ken block in his rally car.

the A380 is quiet, comfortable and spacious.
the seat next to Ken block is........ where i want to sit!

I would wait for the patch and play it from the start as it was intended to be played.

Most people would have finished by the time the patch arrives.

Buy it later and enjoy it more.

Once upgraded and tuned very grippy, maybe not the superglued to the road racing tyres of GT5 but that is a good thing.

Yeah I don't know why sliding is a problem all of a sudden. Slap on sports hard/soft on supercars in GT5 and watch them go sideways. But all I see people using online is racing soft so that's where this mentality comes from.

If you really want to get Shift 2 you should really get PC. There are mods that get rid of the awful parts of the game like the floaty car feeling.

boomee
xbox is also having the exact same problems

Very little problems on PS3. Have rented xbox version for comparisons - same as PS3 graphically and playability. Both are great fun.

If the patch improves the drivability to the level we all hope it will, I suspect more than a few people will redo the entire career. I know I probably will, given that I'm mostly doing that anyway with Autolog but in a horribly unstructured fashion. It's not like it's a tedious process, it's enjoyable the whole way. I wouldn't mind doing the career again at all, and this time I could not make the mistake of works modding my Z06:ouch:.

No it's not sorry, Xbox version is graphically better and my GT2 wheel with Raudi's settings was great until my wheel crapped out.

Can't post link sorry but check Eurogamers. Head to head to explain far better than I.

I don't want this to get into a "mine is better than yours" discussion. I only made the comment because for all intents and purposes the two platforms offer the same experience - "I" didn't see any difference. I don't have a preference as I own both. I did check out your reference out of curiousity as I could not see a difference from personal experience.

Eurogamer:
"The overall impression is that the Xbox 360 game is a touch more refined in terms of the visuals, but the core gameplay is effectively identical on both systems. However, peripheral support may well have an impact on the purchasing decision and it's clear that in this case, it's the PlayStation 3 version that accommodates a wider range of steering wheels,..."

I have both running at my house right now there isnt a big difference

THan why are you on these forums thats kinda weird.

Well I like the cockpit view and gfx are good so it kept me little interested for a while but always nice to know other people comments. It seems they din't remove the blur from the first game either which is disappointing

I don't know what you guys have been smoking but Shift 1 & 2 don't even come close in terms of realism in comparison with GT5. The physics are completely different. GT5 is a true simulation that delivers true to life handling and feel. Shift has a huge dead spot in the gas pedal, the brake pedal, and there is a huge dead zone in the steering. It's nearly impossible to get that real-life feel out of Shift 1 or 2 after playing GT5P and GT5 for nearly the last 2 years.

stop comparing it to GT5, and no game will ever deliver true to life handling and feel. what shift does is give you the "O %##%" feeling like you would feel behind the wheel in a race and not the boring feel of seeing how many times you can pass the field before the race is over. yes in a couple (notice I said couple) gt5 is better, but in NO way does that make it a better game.......or even close for that matter.

That's what the deadzone and steering settings are for. DUHH.

Love it how the GT5 fanatics are so insecure now.

Do not buy this garbage. Ive finished one race and the damn thing has frozen on the loading screen. Maybe GT5 has a few little glitches here and there but oh my gosh.. can't they get any Need For Speed games right these days? They've all been a complete, epic failure since Pro Street. I never hated Pro Street but I never liked it, it was good.. but any Need For Speed before it was really good.

They've failed and failed and apparently failed again. Sorry I paid or should I say wasted $109AU on this piece of garbage.

Riiiight. GT5 is pretty good, but it's not what you would call true to life either. There are any number of games out there that are accepted to be better simulations, do they give better handling and feel than real life?

GT5 is good, but it's not the perfect simulator that some make it out to be. Shift does some things worse and some things better. At the very least it's different and interesting.

Just thought I'd add to my rant.. it actually does remind me of the old Mario Karts on the Super Nintendo.

No no, every car should handle perfectly as soon as you jump in it and fly around a race track like it was made for it and if I can't do top times within a couple of minutes the physics suck, just like real life...

Now Shift 2 hasn't got everything right, but idea that they handle like road cars when you get them and then with tuning and upgrades you turn them into a track/race car, I think that's a pretty cool and maybe they should have marketed it like that, instead of as the 'most realistic racer' out of the box, because with tuning they certainly can give that realistic track experience and the physics are there underneath!

Yeah spot on, the handling of the standard road cars are what is putting people off, i'd of also liked to have seen car setups available for casual gamers that dont have a clue about upgrades and tuning.

That would be good to have as an option:

1. Set soft track tune
2. Set hard track tune
3. Set stock car tune
4. Set drift tune

Or something

This game isn't nigh unrealistic, it is unrealistic. I will be returning my copy of the game and get my $109 refunded tomorrow as I cannot bear it any longer, It's far too frustrating.

At least with Gran Turismo 5 I've never EVER felt frustrated while playing. The car handling (even with a controller) feels a trillion times more realistic in GT5. I've had it, I'm done.. I knew there was a reason I didn't buy the last NFS and I'm never ever buying another Need For Speed game ever again.

Epic Fail, I haven't felt this frustrated with a bloody video game since the first Shift.

Slightly Mad Studios and Electronic Arts I hope one of your employees reads this because your games suck!!

You're taking the game back though, so that's all good. Get your money back and go play something you'll enjoy. We'll still be here having fun with Shift 2. Everyone's happy.

I'm not going to be completely critical here but I expected more. It has some annoying features like constantly turning the driver aids on or off behind your back and the music. That being said once you turn on the elite handling model and keep the aids on low or off all together the handling feels ok. This has fixed the floaty feel in a lot of cars but the 911 GT3 feels like you have no control or feel over whats going on with the front of the car. Its actually made me appreciate the scope and depth of GT5 that much more. That being said get a used copy if possible, its definately worht $45 but not $60.
P.S. The helmet cam though interesting can become another feature which may annoy you, he tends to look into the corners too early.

You don't think perhaps that a 911 based car is supposed to feel a little looser up the front compared to other cars? Having the engine way out the back has to have some effect on handling, even in a GT3 car. It's just a different style of driving, you control it with your foot, not your hand.

Gee everyone loves a smart Alec don't they? Especially when that smart Alec is behind a keyboard. Look at him, he has the answer for everything.
