I've been meaning to buy this game, but what's the customization like? Is it more like Forza or GT5?

I would say closer to Forza. You can remove upgrades in this game.

i cant believe i fell for it again! i bought the first shift and hated it.....no i loathed it. then i buy this game. its real simple, the helmet cam ruins everything. it is the single worst feature for a racing game ever. i cant stress this enough. if i want to look left or right i will do it myself or better yet i will use something that we humans have thats called peripheral vision. what really sucks is that other devs are using this helmet cam feature and i just dont get it. oh plus the cars handle strange with very little difference between them

So just use the normal cockpit camera? Every car in Shift has 2 cockpit views, a hood view, a GT-style bumper cam, and a chase cam, and you're complaining that 'helmet cam ruins everything'? 👎👎👎

Shift is definitely worth buying if you want a good racing game, simple as that!

Okay I just bought the game earlier today and I was pretty disappointed with the game. I really really wanted to like the game since I love racing games, but I just can't get used to the physics. The civic I started out with slides everywhere and its a front wheel drive!! Another thing is that the AI is just waaay too aggressive. I played on hard mode and those bastards just keep ramming me off the road. Also, the G27 just feels like its floating in this game.. it just doesn't feel like driving, and I have tried the settings people suggested. And the part that really ruined it for me was the graphics. Probably one the worst graphics I've seen on the PS3.

To sum it all up, its just not my cup of tea.

Customization - 7/10 what ruined it for me was the ricer bodykits
Tuning-9/10
Gameplay-3/10 AI is waay too aggressive, shifting gears was horrible, physics is in between arcade and sim so the cars are unpredictable...
Graphics-2/10 seriously, the trailers had hella good graphics and out of nowhere it looks like a ps2 game on a ps3.
Bottom line-4/10 rent it first.. or don't buy it from gamestop new so you can still return it

sorry to here that Rev but FYI i hated the game too but kept playing( freaking autolog is addicting) now that I have gotten used to it I absolutlely love the game it takes time and tuning your vehicle to get used to it my civic and escore stick like glue now. its just a different style of physics. its hard to break out of the GT5 mode of physics with that being said i am using a pad at the moment and hoping i can get a Driving force GT soon at least add me when psn comes back im also in VA

Bathurst? Simple...... I must have this game.... Do they have and v8 supercars? If they don't then I think GT5 should meet NFS should meet.... Why can there not be one perfect racing game! One has a V8 super car and the other has the track!!!! Another thread perhaps..... Thank you for opening my eyes to this game as I just watched IGN video review on it and I wasn't that impressed. Please tell me they have bumper view as well and not that annoying helmet view. Cockpit view in GT5 is great and wonderful but buggered if I use it other than to marvel people when they come over and have never seen the game before. It's annoying. You can't see the speed or tachometer or shift light.
Anyway thanks and I will buy it regardless of these things but please answer anyway...

EDIT - oh should have read all the seven pages first.... My bad..... Anyway Bathurst here I come yeha

it takes time and tuning your vehicle

This is where the initial disappointment from many people comes from I guess. In most driving games, when you aqcuire a car, it is immediately set up for track racing. In Shift 2, for some mysterious reason, most cars come with the suspension set to the softest settings with the maximum ride height and completely wrong tire pressures.

Unless you change these, your car will all over the place, wobbling and sliding. With some tuning you can change every little aspect of the car's handling and things will get a lot better. 👍

Oh and I would just like to add my two cents the the 'realism' rant going on in this thread. I don't know how many people in this thread have driven a race car around the Nürburgring at over 200km/h...... I haven't either, but for me I think it comes down to the realization of speed factor that I don't get from GT5. One of my main gripes is that GT5 in rally mode (and other modes) is the apparent lack of grip but I fell this way because when am trying to take a corner on gravel at 180km/h I slide towards the rail but if I take the corner at the correct speed it feels like I am doing 20km/h. from my previous NFS experience, it does the opposite. When you are honking around corners at ridiculous speeds, it looks like you are out of control and absolutely flying which gives you a rush. Which is what it would feel like for me in real life because I am not a race car driver. Not saying that NFS is more real or GT5 is less so.
(oh and I love GT5)

Yeah I just returned it.. maybe I didn't like it as much because PSN was down and I didn't get to try out the Autolog. When the game becomes 20 bucks then I'll try it out again. What part of VA are you in btw? I'm in Woodbridge.

I just bought the game today along with the first one.

I'm just waiting for the psn servers to go online, because of the cloud saving :(.

you may have a long wait start playing now so you cna get a feel for how the cars run it gets better as you tune your car up

I would, but it makes better sense if I use my saves from the cloud option. I don't want to start a career and forget about the one I just did. Plus, I want to put in the online voucher for the limited edition stuff.

cool FYI you can always transfer it when psn comes online including all the LE edition I constantly back up my shift killzone 3 and GT5 files

I may consider this idea since I'm craving some shift 2 racing 👍.

Usually, I use the psn cloud saving for games I rented and will get back to eventually.

I bought Shift 2 a week ago and I have had a terrible time with it. When I first drove one of the cars it was all over the road. A lot of people was having this problem from what I read on the forums. I have tuned the car but still it is hard for me to drive. I use a controller on PS3. Is the program written just for wheel users?
:scared:

Take it from this controller user: some of the fast cars are a handful, but most are perfectly drivable with some tuning.

For me the magic is in the Steering Lock (in the car's tuning settings). Dial it down to around 11 for a nice and accurate steering behavior - the higher settings work for wheel users, but not so well for controllers. Also make sure you don't have the tire pressure too high and use a firmer suspension than the default settings.

Try my Audi S3 settings and see how they work for you (that's my reference tune):

Hope this helps! 👍

Thank-You! I have my steering lock set to less than a 10. I set my tire pressure to 40 in front and 50 in rear. Set other options but can't remember off the top of head what they are, but yes the car drives better! 👍

I have been driving the ford escort cosworth man that thing handles like butter beautiful machine lolol
