Just a moment ago I was driving with a MX-5 NC online in a open lobby. Then I was asked why is was driving a girly car like that...

Personally I like the looks of the NC and don't think it's girly. It got me wondering what the opinions here are though. ;)

Seriously, yeah it's a little girly. Though it's probably more sports car than most of the people around here will ever drive. I always looked at it as a poor mans midlife crisis though I understand they can get quite expensive once tuned.

Hairdresser's car. Just like 90's V6 mustang fox bodies. 'Cute' and drop top and cheap and easy to drive (and be seen in).

The fact that it handles well, feels like a 4-wheel motorcycle, and is basically an IP infringement on Lotus for the Elan is completely beside the point, it's still a hairdresser's car.

The reason I drive with it a lot lately online is that I am considering one for the summer. I am only 19 though, so no midlife crisis (hopefully). ;)

Hard to tell if you are serious or sarcastic...

My old one didn't feel girlie, ripping down Tail of the Dragon, or Devil's Staircase, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Had a 🤬 blast, for several days.

I traded that in a few years ago, but miss it, and wouldn't mind having another.

Doesn't matter. It's faster and drives better than 50% of the cars on the road so what difference does it make? Personally I don't like them too much but it has nothing to do with the regular stereotypes, more so to do with the interior size, semibland design and engine choice/performance.

Maybe it lacks the outward posturing of some racy cars. BUT on paper it is much more of a drivers car than many

It is a joke to imply a driver is a Hairdresser for driving a Ferrari/Audi TT or MX5- a bit of light hearted humour.

As a car - it is a slimmed down well balanced "drivers car" that isn't hamstrung by being a front wheel drive abomination or being loaded down with gumpf.

人馬一体

Dinosaurs....

But it does come with ABS... so...

I say forget the stereotypes. You will love the Miata and have a blast driving it. Chicks will dig it, especially if you can showcase some mad driving skills. Easy on the wallet as far as fuel comsumption goes too, probably easy to get parts if necessary as well. Can't lose.

Serious. (not sarcastic)

Good for a 19yr old though. Especially if you are totally into handling, and don't care what others might think or say. I work with a guy who has one for those exact reasons (he likes to Auto-X). He's a goth who lifts weights and is in computer animation, about as non-girly as it gets.

Everything you say is the reason why I want one! :)

I just want a reliable, affordable and fun convertible... That's why I ended up with the NC as my favourite car to buy this summer.

To make it more manly I will buy a black one and lower it a bit. ;)

I think it's a good car and I'd love to take one for a drive as I'm sure it'd be a lot better than my econobox.

But... It is a girly car like the new Fiat 500 or a Nissan Micra are. A girly car can be good but I can understand why some people wouldn't like them.

Um, chicks may dig it...in the sense that they will want it for themselves, not so much in the sense that they will want a man driving one.

Why do you think it's girly, could you explain it a bit more?

My opinion on trucks like that is that it's for men who need to compensate something. ;)

I could think that because I live in Europe, where cars of that size are only driven by people that try to be cool or (as I just said) need to compensate something.

All in all, it might also depend on where you live, because in the Netherlands there are A LOT of small cars. So, a MX-5 could seem bigger than it the US where trucks like that drive around a lot.
