Is there a naked view?

I'm freaking out a bit. I have not seen any videos of a naked view, meaning, nothing other than a hud overlay. No bit of car. This is my preferred view as it really puts me in the zone. Can anyone confirm that this view is in the game, I'm suddenly about to have a heart attack as I've been waiting for this game way to eagerly. Thank you.

Did a leaderboard challenge in R3R and no matter how i adjusted the view, the A pillar was in my line of vision. So i switched to 'naked view', and all of a sudden it felt good and fast again, just like in my old GT days when i only drove bumper (before there was cockpit view).

I'm doubting a little now, as bumper cam is a lot more precise and feels faster + you see more of the track versus cockpit view which is more realistic and you can enjoy the dash. How many of you run naked here and don't you miss having the dash of each car?

I think the naked view provides a more immersive experience and I find it is more conducive to entering into 'the zone'. Although the cockpit views created by SMS are bar none the best we've seen in any racing game so far, I believe real racers blur almost everything out and only "see" the actual road. Although the depth of field view that offers a blur effect is meant to simulate this, unless your running 8 monitors at 4k each, the view takes up too much real estate and does not let your mind actually perceive the full breadth and scope of a turn. This is why I prefer naked/bumper can view. Would love to know if anyone disagrees with what I just wrote as it is merely my opinion.

Amendment:
I also think this is further made apparent by the older f1 generations. The onboard video of Senna qualifying at Monoco in his mclaren shows a MUCH less cluttered steering wheel and his head is about an entire foot higher then today's modern f1 cars. In other words, he was seeing almost primarily what was right in front of him.

I like the sense of speed in bumper cam but I never play it because I find it too low. it's an unrealistic angle compared to what you see when actually driving a car. for example, if you get up close behind a car you can't really see much beyond their rear bumper which isn't great for racing. I guess it's ok for time trials though.

Yes is disagree with you very much @mattersend :D

I never liked the bumper view while driving with a wheel. it just doesn't feel like driving. And with the Helmet cam and the working dash board in the car, this takes you one step further into believing that you drive a real car. And there will be another big jump with the virtual reality devices in this direction.

Like @bleeder, I'd only use a "bumper cam" if it's actually just a cockpit-level camera without the car, like games used to have in the days before 3D cockpits were more common. Some games offer both, like the PGR series, IIRC.

I've never liked bumper cam, it just seems so unrealistic even in the GT series. Too close to the ground, too much of a sense of speed, and tough to race with because of the camera angle. I do run cockpit cam but I customize to take the A pillar out of the picture enough that it doesn't interfere much and usually move a little close to the dash so I see more track and less dash.

In GT the best lap times with a controller I did using bumper cam!
The cockpit views suck in GT and combined with that hugely inaccurate FOV, that's why I almost never used them. Being able to adjust position in the cockpit along with a more accurate FOV really turned things around for me in terms of using cockpit view. It takes some getting used to of course, but once you do, it's hard to go back to anything else.

Now as I practiced in gt5 the last weeks, I only used cockpit view. Just to get familiar with it. Will stick to it in Pcars for sure.

Saying it sucks is not only false on the grounds that he said he got the best lap times using it, it is also (I guess a part of the first point) a subjective opinion. Just because the view may be "unrealistic" in your opinion, does not make the views efficacy any less manifest. The naked view, in my opinion, is the optimal view in a racing game. I see the wheel and hands etc., as slightly distracting and unnecessary. If your using a wheel, then just look at your wheel and your real hands if you have that need during a race. If your using a controller, you don't really give a s*** (censored).

I guess to me its a matter of input vs. what that input is actually doing. Racing is thrilling for many different reasons - all of which primarily converge around the idea of going as fast as possible within controlled parameters that are not always known, that we attempt to discover by pushing these parameters, (exploring limits, etc. etc. etc.). While seeing a pair of hands and a steering wheel may make it seem more psychologically "realistic" because we are used to seeing things this way, its not necessarily the most fun or realistic in terms of eliciting the sensation of racing.

My position is that the naked/bumper cam view, while not 'technically' realistic for a variety of factors explained above, is more "immersively realistic" (I know immersively is not a word).

Obviously it's subjective, I wrote it so it's my opinion. If you're going to put the word "unrealistic" in quotes when quoting a post of mine you should probably make sure that I actually used the word in the post you quoted - which I did not. And you're obviously not familiar with racing sims, but pointing out the issue of the hands and wheel moving is yet another reason why the cockpit view isn't a good option for me in the GT series. True sims like Project Cars, Assetto Corsa and many others, have the option of removing both the wheel and driver hand animations so that isn't an issue and has no bearing on whether to choose cockpit view or not. I don't consider GT a racing sim.

Whatever view you use is personal choice, always has been, always will be. No one view is better than the other. Pick what you enjoy and what you prefer to use for your own reasons. Project Cars opens up a whole new world of view adjustments that many GT and Forza veterans may not be aware of, and I'll continue to advocate that people give cockpit view a second chance because it's not a one size fits all approach in PCars like one might be used to from other console games.

Got it. Didn't mean to misquote you. I'm interested in cockpit view minus the hands and wheel (which I didn't know existed). Will this be an option on consoles? I've noticed lots of custom camera views and have been wondering if its a PC exclusive feature. Any idea on how much control console players will have on their view selection?

Identical options to pc, but for exact details you'll have to get a member to chime in. View selection should be the usual cockpit, bumper, bonnet, 3rd person, I've seen each one in replays but again for specifics we have to ask a member.

I read "naked" and clicked... don't judge.
You probably thought it was the grid girls thread:sly:

Bumper cam is too low, my preference is hood cam. One of my biggest peeves with GT was the lack of hood cam - the roof cam is too high. Cockpit view is ok but the actual cockpit takes up too much of the view, I am looking forward to trying the helmet cam though - might become my new favourite view.

Helmet cam it's far from realistic too, the visor will take the hole screen, the most realistic and immersive it's still the cockpit with a good fov and seat adjustment, and if you want to look more real, buy a helmet :)
I could take the hood view, but bumper cam, looks like you are in a go kart.

That's why I think helmet cam will be good - it's more dynamic with the head movement and look to apex. As I will initially be getting pCARS on PS4 I hope they are able to implement head tracking with the PSeye, if not for release then in an update. My old PC will need replacing soonish so I'll definitely be getting a pCARS capable PC when I get a new one so I can enjoy the PC only capabilities.
