Is it me or is there something different about one of the cockpits in the GT5 Kiosk Demo? From Jordan's blog post, he posted some videos from a YouTube user, who got his hands on the GT5 kiosk demo. The people I talked to say that all the cars in the demo are premium. All the cockpits look fully detailed and "premium-like", except the Stingray.

From previous post from Gran Turismo's website, they have showed that the Stingray was standard in the standard cars trailer.

And the damage of the Corvette from the demo, also has very light or lessened damage detail, which PD said will be expected from all standard cars. I can clearly see a DEFORMED or hanging bumper @ 2:43

Now... back the cockpits

I compared the Enzo, Stingray, and Gallardo cockpits together with the sun hitting the cars in different situations. The first column is each car in the shadows, the second is the car with the sun directly in front of the car, and the last column is with the sun offset, in a direction based on the cast shadows in the car, to see how the shading in the cockpit has been affected...

1. OK, so in the shadows column, in both Gallardo and Enzo you can see the detail of the interior; things like the gauges, dashboard, etc can be seen... But as for the STINGRAY, its pitch black and all you see is the driver's gloves! In the video the Stingray's gauges are very faint but that's all you see.

2. In the sun "dead-ahead" or 2nd column, the dashboard of the Enzo and Gallardo are fully illuminated by the sun, but yet, the Stingray dashboard seems none existent. You could tell that light is in the car because the driver's gloves are illuminated compared to the first column. In the Stingray, the only light detail I see is silhouettes of of the steering wheel.
The Enzo's sun seems to be during noon time, so it doesn't cast shadows like in the Gallardo.

3. I used the green arrow to represent the direct the sun is coming from(May Not be fully correct though). So now at an angle, the sun clearly comes in the and hits the base of the steering wheels of the Enzo and Gallardo, but not the Stingray, although the silhouettes do shift in the car...

If the stingray is premium, it can't look that sh**ty in real life...

Maybe these demos could be a way PD decided to test standard cockpits to the public, to see if we noticed them if we thought that they were premium. Could be that they are still messing with the idea of have standard cockpits. I would be more than happy with this!

Sorry if this has been discussed before, i didn't see a thread like this.

So please, tell what you guys think, do you see what I'm talking about or do you think I just made a big fool of myself...

Interesting observation my dear Watson. However something tells me that's actually what the interior of the stingray looks like. But you never know, anything can happen right?

The Corvette's interior looks that way because it's an older car. Back then, designers didn't focus on having sunlight illuminate the cockpit and dash. It has to do with the way the dash panels are angled.

Short answer: No. Kaz already said that standard cars wouldn't have any interiors

My opinion is that regardless if it's a very very dark premium cockpit (as some people have being pointing to in the standard/premium cars thread) or a purposefully blackened, less detailed cockpit, it shows that PSP-style basic black outlines for standard models would work. They wouldn't look as good as properly modeled ones, obviously, but would at least provide an interior point of view.

If detail can't be seen, it's as if it's not there.

That Stingray is premium. Looks premium and also in the car selection screen it say premium under the cars name.

The corvette dash looks dark because its surfaces are flat and the dials are recessed and the whole dash curves away from the driver so light is difficult to get down there. One the other cars the dash curves towards the driver and reflects down radiating light.

He has a point though, compared to the other cars, the Stingray's interior does seem.... lacking.

It's still not confirmation either way though since, as noted, it's premium... maybe there's three tiers though.

Standard, with no cockpit
Semi-Premium, with Stingray poor cockpit.
Premium, full detail cockpit?

:D

This is a joke, please don't start taking three tiers seriously.

SO, in my heart I think that there is a standard car in the demo and I don't get how people say this car is premium...
There are two stingrays, a premium and a standard. But you already knew that right, right......right........oh boy, don't tell me. Awwww, poor guy.

The Stingray example has been brought up before. The actual cockpit is very deep, and sunlight just doesn't get in there like it does on the other two cars. The guages will never be in direct sunlight. And when you factor in the poor contrast performance of recording an off-screen presentation, all of the shadow detail is practically erased. That's why it looks like that.

I'm going to go with what Kaz himself said. No cockpit view for standards. The End.

The Stingray isn't much different from the two other cars. The vertical dashboard parts inside the Enzo and Gallardo are dark in a similar way. Only difference seems to be that the dials are lit in the Enzo and Gallardo.

The sunlight you see inside the Enzo and Gallardo is caused by the lower angle the dashboards have towards the windscreen. I think we would see more detail if there was a screenshot showing sunlight entering the Stingray from the side.

With all this being said, the shadows are exceptionally dark in this game.

Well, personally I remeber reading a while back that Yamauchi told that on standard cars, PSP-style blackened cockpits are technically possible. He apparently wrote this in his Honda twitter account where he answered some user questions about GT5. I don't have a twitter account and I don't know how it works so, I can't check in detail, but here's a blog entry about it, in japanese:

http://ameblo.jp/esegk/theme3-10017794092.html

Can anybody check if it's true by finding Yamauchi's comments on his "Honda twitter account"?

They tried it, spent quite a few months on it (a waste of time!) and then canned it, because it didn't work

See one of the interviews with Kaz for details. Gamescom one I believe

As we were the first session and had a slight overrun, Kazunori couldn’t take many questions. However, he was able to confirm that the number of unique courses available in the game is “more than 70″ – with the added scope of online Course Maker circuits – and that despite their best efforts to respond to criticism about standard car interiors, they were not able to implement cockpit camera (even one similar to GTPSP’s) in GT5 – a source of some disappointment to Kazunori, who is never happy to let down his fans and is probably his own biggest critic.

That doesn't sound like a convincing answer to me: they worked on GTPSP.
I guess a partial explanation is that they didn't want/have time to also implement low/high beams and wipers on standard cars.

Whatever the case - JUST LET IT GO PEOPLE - there will be no cockpits in standard cars, and PD should never waste time doing so. Use bumper cam and love it!!!!!!

Everyone used bumper cam in the previpous games, so you should be used to it by now :)

Use bumper cam and live with it is the way I like to put it. It will feel odd to switch between interior and bumper cam all the time. I can't think of other games that have forced me to use different camera angles.

Agreed. Besides, why would you want an interior view anyways? To check out the virtual dashboard and the virtual cup holders?

I never used bumper cam before.... only exterior, I like a "point of reference" and the bumper cams lack that, then GT5P came and it was all interior all the time.

Bumper Cam isn't actually Bumper Cam anymore. If you watch recent videos, it's almost the same height as cockpit view.

It's basically cockpit view without the cockpit. Which is great for me, because I'm not a fan of seeing two steering wheels in front of me.

Bumper cam was never actually a bumper cam in the GT series. In the first game, it was even called "Driver Cam" or something like that.

The. Stingray. Convertible. Is. A. Premium. Car.

Agree

Standard cockpit works well on PSP since it just a PSP. On HD system it will look stupid. Either have a quality cockpit or none.

Do you realize the same could be said for the 800+ PS2-quality "standard" cars included too?

Yeah, any "it will look stupid on HD" argument can be countered with "the fact they even have standard cars has potential, at least, to look stupid".

Black cockpits, with a steering wheel at least related to type. At least then everyone wins.

I mean, dude, it says "premium" when you select the car.

Kaz said there aren't cockpits. It's written all over the official site. I don't get people sometimes. :ouch:
