Issues and how to fix them for round 2

That's up to the person playing and their own source of motivation. If you believe you're not going to make the top 128, is it worth it to you to enjoy the competition and see how high you can rank in your region/country and be able to say that you were part of the competition? Or do you just say, if I'm not going to make it, I'm going to stop playing.

For me, I feel like nobody should be participating in GT Academy if it's not fun for them. I'm enjoying this competition! I love spending time shaving away those tenths. I believe that If you're having fun, then keep playing and do your best to make it to the top 128, and if you do, GREAT! If not, at least you had fun! But if you're not having fun and participating in GT Academy feels more like a second job than something that's supposed to be fun, then I'd take a step back, check your goals, and what you want to get out of the competition, and make the decision to keep playing or not yourself.

I guess this competition is just way too serious for me to get any fun out of it with the way it's setup. If it was setup the way I proposed from the beginning, there might have been people wanting it changed to how it is now. But there wouldn't be any real/logical reasons for doing so.

I didn't want to let any complaints or frustrations out in this thread because my initial reasons for changing the format had nothing to do with being frustrated, but honestly it is frustrating that I put in less than 30 minutes on Tsukuba and got top 7 without viewing any replays and still sit in top 50... but that time won't sit because everyone is playing non stop to improve their time. I guess I also just don't really see what it proves that you perfected a lap on the same course in the same car with over 4 to 5 weeks time to do it. Seems very one sided to me.

I guess I'm done with discussing these issues. Seems like all most people care about is that as long as the format points to the final 16 being the actual fastest/best drivers no matter what then they don't care how it's setup. I'm gonna wait till the last day and if I'm out of the 128, I'll spend an hour or two to see what I can do I guess, I just don't see the fun in doing the same thing for 5 weeks only to get knocked out of the comp.

You never know, some people may get jaded with endless lapping on the same 3 tracks and stop practicing after the first week.

But yeah, seems like a good plan that is congruent with the energy you want to put into the competition. One thing to keep in mind is that racers are not going to have 5 weeks to put down a time in subsequent rounds as they're only a week long. Undeniably, people will play more than others in the week time span but it's different than a 5 week period right?

Regardless, I understand where you're coming from, I can empathize with your position/stance, and hope you do what you need to do to have fun with the game and the competition.

Wait, the first round which is the current 3 time trials is one week long, and the whole online competition is 5 weeks or whatever it is??? I need to go read the rules again to make sure. Even though I'm not completely satisfied with some of the format I still want to compete so I need to make sure I don't miss out since I am waiting till the last day.

If that's true it does change my perspective quite a bit. A week makes sense, since if anyone has any freetime to play, they will have it at some point during a weeks time most likely so that allows most people to put in at least a couple hours.

BAM. There it is man.

If you have an unlimited number of attempts to set your fastest time, you are going to be driving the car at the very edge of its limit. Most likely you will spin out or mess up somewhere and need to restart, many times. In a real race you would never drive that close to the limit or you'd be crashing out of the race.

This is a legitimate point, since the stated purpose of the Academy competition is to produce a potential Racing driver candidate.

This being the case, personally I believe the TTs should include the same arrangement as some of the license tests, wherein you have a field of cars you must negotiate in the course of the test.
That way you don't run totally unimpeded which, other than qualifying, is not part of a real race.
For me, likewise it would be a lot more motivational, and involve more of a real race element.

EDIT: After reviewing the leaderboards, I think there should be two different contests, one for the wheel drivers and another for the controller users.

The limited amount of attempts is pretty silly. What is to stop people from practicing for 2 weeks and then doing an amazing lap.

Or buying multiple copies of the game so they can have more attempts than you do.

I think it would be better though if the time trials were say your average time over five laps or something.
