It's not fun anymore

I'm a big fan of GT don't get me wrong but I'm not finding the demo much fun anymore.

Having tracked a 350z and now racing Caterhams I can say with confidence that this game isn't like the real thing. Yes, it teaches you about good smooth lines and teaches you about throttle control but apart from that its just not the same.
The great thing about driving a good car is being able to take it to the limit and sometimes just over that limit and then reeling it back in again as you catch your breath. If real cars were like this demo, every race or track day would be a complete wreck.

And then once you start spinning its just a joke. Its like some kind of comedy act the way the car spins and slides. I often think its a shame that there is no grass on the last straight as I think you could probably gain a second by hitting the grass and sliding over the finish.

This is not a good advertisement for GT or Nissan for that matter. Apart form the 1% of people that have managed to put in a good lap the others are left frustrated and any newbie who's never played the GT games will just think its a load of tosh.

I don't mind if something is challenging if its close to the real thing but this is neither realistic nor is it fun. I'm not surprised that Lucas never really answered the big question, "is the game anything like the real thing".

I think it's really well done for a console video game, but when you compare it to the real thing it's tough to compete with that. Driving real cars are just too much fun then playing driving games. Still I think PD is doing a great job at least their making efforts to improve the physics and I'm sure it's an on going process for them.

Did you race with a 6 axis, Dualshock, or a wheel (and what wheel)?

I am not questioning your opinions on the game, but I would personally find it helpful to know which option you used.

I agree the Stock 370 is too much like driving a cake of soap but the tuned one is simply awesome, great great fun!

It's true that before March they should release a fully functional demo to prove the game can be enjoyable for "casual" or less hard-line players too.

Prologue pretty much did that. I can't imagine anybody assuming the standard physics will be gone from the final version and I can't imagine another demo coming before release either. But I've eaten hats before so we shall see, and it'd be pretty cool too.. :sly:

Well I agree but to some point. Part of my failure with the TT demo (Come on...I'm 11 seconds off-pace with the #1 and that when I manage to make a lap without spinning out) is due to me being an absolute noob, I just took GT seriously a couple of months ago, and I just drove GT5P with a wheel a few weeks ago. Yet, I've managed to drive cars like the Audi R8 and the Ford GT without many problems on GT5P (or at least being able to do clean laps with them and fast times, being just 3 seconds off pace with the #1 at HSR with the R8). The Demo is really kicking me, but I still think it's MY fault, I can't say for sure since I've never drived a car in real life.

OMG so much fanboism in one place... A guy who really races on track tells you it's just not right but all you can come up with is standard irrelevant answers. Even if gt5 cars had square wheels you'd still be ok with it, wouldn't you?

I just read "The Doctors" hilarious post and agreed, LMAO and now read yours, and I also agree, especially to the first part. The truth, IMO, lies, as usual somewhere in the middle. I have driven rear whell drives from day one, starting with 60hp Kadett C sedans and coupes, over 2le Asconas, BMWs. All not nearly as powerfull granted, but tailhappy if you wanted them to be. I could drift these cars completely through 270 deg. turns (Autobahn turnoffs :)), with a bit of confidence no prob. What irritates me about the new physics is not how the tail comes out, thats done perfect, it's the snapback. Even a 4 wheel drive car isnt that nasty! I'm not stupid and complaining about a tuned 370 on racing tyres being twitchier than a 60hp opel on wet roads, don't get me wrong, but I catch myself being more "scared" of coming sideways in a computergame than in real life ). Maybe it is too hard, yes, but then again it is a game and either learn it or leave it I guess. But you are right with another point, too, trackdays would end in scrapyard festivals if sportier cars where like this. I wonder (and hope) the physics are made extra harsh for the academy to seperate the men from the boys (I'm a boy), because imagine an online race in this config: I think I could barely finish a race.

And it still is a game made to have fun with! Like some else said, there will not be anyway to make a realistic racing game! You do know this is a Gran Turismo forum, right?

PS. You aren't a troll are you, just asking?

:grumpy:

I've never driven a sports car on a track. So, I can't say what is realistic and what is not.

However, the cars in iRacing, which is supposed to be the most realistic sim, also spinout easily. While in Forza I feel like I can almost always recover from oversteer.

Could it be that those with real track experience have never pushed their real cars as hard as they do their virtual cars?

If i had to pick worst physics from LFS,GTR, Forza 3 and GT5:Demo. I will pick GT in a split. Quite a many people think like this. Yes it is a video game but not very accurate simulating tire physics at the moment. And i mean when you are using a wheel. (LFS feel **** when playing with pad :) )

I run track days all year. Have run them with a turbo Miata and my current Nissan Sentra. I push them pretty hard, probably harder than I should as they were both my daily drivers. I have been on the limits of their respective suspension and tire setups, and am currently in pursuit of the FWD record at my local track. (few changes to the car and it's mine)

Something about the GT5 demo feels semi-real to me, but can't exactly pin point it. I like the way the car feels when it's under power coming out of the corners, but while turning I do agree that something is lacking. I will not sit here and preach about what needs to be changed because I am using a controller. So I don't have a whole lot of say there. We'll find out when I get a wheel set up.

R1600Turbo stated most important thing. That you can not really talk about pure physics as they are allways subjected to controller; how you feel them. Physics of the new demo might be bad for me because of my fanatec wheels is not properly adjusted or there is some glitch in game wheel support for this wheel. Time will tell how story folds.

Nerra - Good post.

I haven't tracked any of these cars myself, but having some experience of a Rotax Max kart, I can say that the physics, and particularly on entry into the corners, is not that of a pedigree racer. It's way too forgiving to th point where the grip cannot be distinguished.

A proper racing car should reward you after a rich application of aggression and finesse, and it's just not happening with the physics. With setups, I normally dial this out by getting rid of all the forgiveness.

So far, I think a technical, point and squirt style is needed to be fast, rather than a creative one.

I hope my first post didn't sound like a troll post. I don't own any other driving game or console, just gt5p and a g25.

I also don't want to take anything away from the people that have got top times as it does require a perfect line with perfect use of the throttle and brake etc something I have yet to achieve but my main quarry is the way the game reacts when you aren't perfect.

Good drivers will still be top and in order to get a top time you will still need everything perfect but I think if it was a little more forgiving on your mistakes it would be closer to the real thing and it would be more fun.

Here's a question. Would any of us change our minds about the physics if we could have adjusted the suspension settings on the car to make it better?

Nicely put mirial. I feel like with this there is only one style of driving that it permits and if you try anything different then you are severely punished.

Look at the last 2 F1 champions Button and Hamilton, both have completely different driving styles yet they are both champions.

Button would probably do okay in this demo, Hamilton would end up punching the TV :)

Same goes for Schumacher and Alonso. Michael is touching wheels and pedals like a lady and Alonso is like banging on some puta in red light district. End result is quite same but Michael's TC would not even ever kick in :)

The possible explanation for all the frustration can be that normally you don't drive on the edge. You've got to understand that you're driving very, very fast in the game. Faster and more on the edge than you do even on track days.

I find the GT5P and even more the GT5 Time Trial to be fairly realistic. Snapback IS nasty if it occurs in 100+ kmph. Go and drift on tarmac on such speeds, come back and tell it ain't.

Actually, it reminds me when I couldn't handle a high speed drift with a Clio V6. It was kind of a manufacturer organized test event or track day and I wasn't familiar enough with the ride. It was a minor tiny-tiny drifty-baby on may be 70mph, but when the tail kicked back, it was a hell of a spinout :)

I have some 12 years of driving experience and I currently drive a 250bhp Subaru Forester XT Prodrive.

Oh, and I use a Logitech Driving Force Pro for the game, manual gears.

The words Pot, Kettle and Black come to mind.

You make perfectly valid points Nerra, and deep down I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's not good publicity for Nissan or PD, and is frustrating to a huge portion of the GT fan base. However, having put some time into it and learned how it needs to be played, I do find the tuned version at least, a whole lot of fun to drive. Granted, I don't normally play with the settings at this level, such is the reason why I struggled. However, like they said in the IGN review, it forced them to persevere with settings they would not normally use, and actually, they ended up enjoying the fun and challenge of it.

Stick with it - you might just find you enjoy it, just a bit ;)

Wow, not me. I do feel that Forza physics are very good, but I don't get the feeling I'm driving a sim like I do even in GT5 Prologue. But that's the thing. People handle all these games differently, and no game is perfect. Frankly, I'm happy that the list of nitpicks for GT5 is such a tiny list. GT5 itself should be an incredible driving experience.

I still love the demo, but then it's just a Time Trial test, so I fire it up when I want to challenge myself, and otherwise play Prologue or GT4 for the love of all those cars.

Nerra your points are exactly how I feel. With the untuned car it seems as if everything is going well and then all of a sudden I lose it. And once the car is lost there is nothing you can do to save it and it also spins out in a comical manner. There is no telegraph of the carnage about to unfold with the un-tuned car.

That said, I was primarily focused on the normal Z, after taking a few laps in the tuned version however, wow. I feel it is much better, trail braking into the first corner results in...oversteer just as it should given how much load is in the front of the car at that time. Im not sure if the tuned version addresses issues of feedback when grip is about to go, but it certainly seems like it responds a lot better.

i have a G25 and a G27 the G27 feels way better then the g25. also the feedback is way better in this GT5 demo than in GTP. on the last stretch in the tuned Z the G27 wheel feels great still not the best where i wish it was but a large improvment. i can actually feel the bumps through out the wheel!! its not so bland like in prolouge during straights. also the new way the interior view shakes also helps the sense of driving better. you guys own wheels or use controllers and whats your time if you dont mind me asking? With the race z i broke high 39s today still trying to chop down lol having some good fun with this demo

Hey JDMKING13, maybe here isn't the most appropriate place, but I'd be interested in hearing some more detailed and personal views on the G25 vs G27 wheel. As for your time, high 39s in the tuned is pretty good, but low 36s is where things were at last time I fired up the game.

lol i know did you see his lap!! it was so sweet!!!! he drive so smooth and effecient i will pm you later

I dont get the "its too difficult because the car snaps back so fast". I can catch the car without problems with my DS3 and never spun out until i was on the grass (the grass is too extreme though, i agree with this one). Games like LFS, GTR Evo & rFactor have such a good reputation when it comes to driving physics and i find catching the car way harder in these games than in the GT5 demo.

👍 thats why i wanted to know there times. this demo is wayyyy better than GTP the feedback is kinda crazy good to me like i said its not where i want it to be but its damn better than GTP after a few laps im not going to lie i feel like im really driving plus with the interior veiw improved it makes it that much better!!! G27 is really cool to the tach light is cool i dont use it but in a dark room its pretty sweet the feedback is way better much smoother
