I've been playing GT since the first game which I bought on the UK launch day and I remember changing from digital pad to analogue was a little tricky at first, but this is very different. I can barley even finish a lap without going off track of spinning out and this is behind the wheel of a Honda CRX. I didn't even know it was possible to spin one of those! I really wasn't expecting the transition to be this hard.

Its not like I suck at the game, in GT5 TT my time in the stock version of the car was top 250 in Canada using the pad and its bugged throttle. I can't even get that car to go around more than 2 corners without spinning out.

Are these growing pains normal? It's like GT4 has all new physics with the wheel.

On the plus side, its like playing a new game, the level of immersion just increased massively.

Don't feel bad. I bought a wheel during my GT3 days and I sucked so bad, I actually returned it to the game store within a week. :dunce: Couldn't even drive a Miata around Super Speedway without massive problems. Granted, it was a cheapie Mad Katz. I tried and tried to configure it the way it seemed it should be set, but after awhile I gave up. Returned it to the store. I do wanna try another wheel when GT5 comes out, but it's gonna have to be something more expensive.

It took me about a week after switching to a wheel to equal my pre-switch times. I suspect that the better someone is with the D-pad/sticks, the harder it is to make the switch (not that I was all that good with the analog sticks).

Take it easy for a while, just getting used to the feel of things; don't go right out trying to set blistering laps. It might also be a good idea to redo some of the B and A license tests, with the blue line switched on.

That. Redo the licenses and the missions and you'll pick it up in no time.

Do any of the options in "steering" actually do anything helpful? I turned them all off and set it to simulation. But the fast chicane on the back section of midfield reverse is spin city right now.

I've switched to the wheel too, and I'm crap. But I'm practicing with a Corolla.

As long as you get a good wheel I see no reason why you shouldn't improve. I got a junky mad katz wheel and mistakenly thought that after so many years with the PS2 the quality would have improved and it might compare somewhat to more expensive brands. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was utterly impossible to drive, 3/4 of the lock to lock was a dead zone, no response at all. Back to the DS2. :yuck:

It's like the change from auto transmission and driving aids to manual and no aids. Once over the hump, I would think it would become just as natural to you.

I never played GT4 with the driving aids, the slowed me down. I bought a new driving force wheel.

It's amazing how different all the cars feel now, with the DS3 they all pretty much felt the same, but now they are radically different.

It still feels like the physics are different.

With the corners I'm getting the hang of I'm amazed how consistent I now am becoming.

Now you want a racing seat right? That is what happened to me after i got my G25!

I'll buy my seat soon, or when GT5 is finally released!

Yup. That sounds like my experience with the Mad Katz! I tried configuring it this way and that. No dice. :ill:

Get a decent wheel I guess. Weirdly enough the G25 is so good I actually prefer the steering feeling on my G25 than the steering feeling on my Ford Fiesta (1999) which seems to have a tiny bit too much power steering.

Mindyou I drove the real car equivalent to a Madcatz wheel recently a Peugeot 307 and it feels awful because it's even more power assisted than my Fiesta you get no feel for how much grip you have which is really unnerving for me.

 I've driven the real car equivalent of a Mad KAtz, too, at my job. Plenty of old Tauruses, Sebrings, Caravans, Jetta, etc. in need of an alignment! Or ball joints. Or tie rods. Or all of the above...

The transition for me was pretty quick, the change from a ds3 to a DFGT took about a week, so you should be there in a while.

I'm a geezer and I've always used a wheel, except for once, and I was so spastic I couldn't even get around one corner. At the end of the day, young people with good thumbs will be faster, I think, with the controller.
