Karting: Stay or Go?

Unless they can make improvements to the driving feel and have more kart-friendly layouts that aren't from the Course Editor thingy, it should go.

Stay. Expand it (MOAR EVENTS), improve it (reduce the slipstream) and maybe give us another Kart track like the one at the Nurburgring.

👍

Karts were pretty pointless in GT5, just like many things (but that's another story). If they can use them in an A-Spec event or something, they would be worth using...

It should go. Again PD tries to add to many things and loses focus. Nascar, kart's should go. If you cannot add something to the game the way it should be don't add it at all.

Through the magic of hybriding I was able to make some 100,125 and 250cc shifters with various tire compounds and it was night and day with the current karts. Shifter karts with front brakes so you can adjust brake balance would make all the difference and completely revolutionizekarting In GT5. Almost no work required on PD's part to get this done since I was able to do it myself in 10 minutes.

Throw in a better track editor and I might do nothing but karts!!

Definitely stay. I love Karting in GT5. However, add shifter Karts...please.
Edit: This topic would definitely benefit from a poll.

It's pretty fun to drive around Spa or something with karts, but that's just once. There are not many small and interesting tracks for karts. The course creator tracks get old fast.

Agreed. Unfortunately they hate bumps so elevation change and/or a micro Nurburgring (hmmm) is a big limiter as well. An improved course maker and those 160 mph turbo karts will fix that
karting without slipstream would be fun.

I think drafting should stay if A. 160 mph Turbo karts get in.
B. tracks with banking and elevation changes

Drafting in karts is realistic, although the level of draft is too high in GT. Even when I started in 4 stroke karts at 45-50 mph we drafted. Moaving up to the faster 2 strokes drafting was an integral part of racing. Karts aren't the most aerodynamic of vehicles and having someone in front of you to cut the wind for you makes a big difference.

While both points are true, in the end it'd be nice to have an option to turn slipstream completely off.

GT5's slipstream on karts kind of ruins it on the long run.

I really hope I STAYS I love the go-karts as I do it in real life and with the new physics I think it will be really fun. please dont get rid of them!!!!!!

Well, if they improved the aero model by as much as they improved the driving physics... it's not keen to hope for a big improvement.

Stay for sure. Imagine now the track editor using Ronda at Spain, making small tracks/layouts around the town will be amazing with slow cars and karts.

Keep the Karts, but make a championship out of it. A step up to Single seater champs.
So it has a real racing purpose.

It should stay. The feel could be improved somewhat though, and the performance of the three types needs a bit more space, IMO.

The Jr. Kart when I drove it, felt slightly faster than the 100 PDI. I know it was slower, but it felt faster to me. In essence, they feel like they're trying to pull a doghouse made of cast-iron. It's been a very, very, very long time since my only outing on a kart (I'm 22, and I was on a kart when I was 9 at a fun-park) so, I don't know how best to suggest how they can improve on the feel of it.

Also, there needs to be additional support for karts. And Kart manufacturers need to be featured. Jr. Kart 100cc, 125cc, and 250cc, possibly 500cc, as well as shifters.

Yes! Stay!! One of the main reasons why I bought GT5 in the first place. It was the feature I was most excited about! :D

Think back, guys. When Kaz introduced GT5 and showed off some gokart pics and vids, the fans got crazy and thought "yes we're finally getting gokarts!'
- Kaz meant to save gokarts UNTIL GT6. But since we, the fans, got crazy and happy for it, he implemented it in GT5 as well. So hold on to your hat - Of course gokarts will show up in GT6.

Excellent point. I remember reading about this back when GT5 was around 4 months before release. 👍

Yep, exactly. I drive a 125cc Kart in real life, which is very exciting... But I don't think Polyphony did a great job trying to recreate that excitement in GT5. I think it will be finished properly in GT6, as originally intended.

We need some proper kart tracks though. Kart space IMO is very poxy, and the normal car tracks are too big. We need small, narrow, twisty outdoor tarmac circuits. Typically around 1km long, and 8m wide.

Karting belongs in Gran Turismo. 👍

We had a couple of races around the Nurburgring in the karts and it was a blast. At first we were unsure due to the low top speed and the grip of the karts thought that maybe we would be able to just drive flat out most of the way but we were surprised at just how hard is was to keep them on the track the combination of the bumps with the lack of suspension on the karts made for some very interesting mishaps along the way and we were all getting quite a laugh out of it.

The down side was that we were all using Fanatec wheels with the FFB turned up and after one lap our arms were so tired and sore we had to break for the evening.

waste of time. just like anything associated with nascar

Ahh I say this all the time to a few friends of mine...
"Is that your opinion, or a fact? If it's a fact, please provide sufficient evidence to support it."
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone hates it. Kaz and the team at PD didn't develop GT5 just for you, and I doubt they're developing GT6 for you.
Also use capital letters to start off sentences. Improper use of capital letters and grammar is frowned upon by the GTPlanet moderators and admins.
