That sigh at the end,

Getting a little fed up at that point I guess?

Indeed. I was going to use @Doog's advice and swear but then that wouldn't be GTP friendly. I made a video before that where I said, "Hello? Anyone? Bueller... Bueller..." but I deleted that one because I hate the sound of my own voice.

Good idea, never thought of this. Although, it has done this before on a previous battery, however it only lasted for about 3 or 4 minutes. This is lasting for hours at a time. I'll see if I can try it out tomorrow. 👍
Before disconnecting the car battery first try removing the radio fuse (much easier) remember to leave it disconnected for several minutes, also check if radio has built in clock that it goes off if you pull the fuse.

Today, we disconnected the battery to reset the radio.

Connected it again, went to put the code in... and the buttons still don't work... so we can't put the code in... meaning we no longer have a radio at all. At the moment, the soundtrack to car journeys consists of really bad beatboxing and whistling.

According to my dad it's mine and my mum's fault for putting the CD in, apparently it was a stupid idea and we shouldn't even need to listen to a CD. Oh, okay then, I'll just make my ears bleed listening to 5 Seconds of Summer then, shall I? Both my mum and my dad have tried finding the old Kenwood head unit but nobody knows where it is. My mum suggested buying a newer, modern head unit with a CD player, bluetooth and MP3 jack, as the Kenwood one is at least 12 years old, but my dad is still strangely convinced that the idea of a CD player is stupid and we don't need a more modern head unit. :indiff:

To be fair, CDs are a bit outdated. All I would ever want out of a car's sound system is an auxiliary port, or preferably a USB port and a good way of switching between folders and songs. The current situation sounds really annoying, I do hope it gets sorted out soon :).

The only reason we still use CDs in Bruiser is because he doesn't have an auxiliary port, so it's CDs or radio.

huehue

could it be that one of the buttons are stuck?

No, because the whole radio itself doesn't respond.

Well, just about an hour after my dad made a scene about getting a new head unit... we've already got a new head unit.

It's a Pioneer FH-X700BT, a much better alternative than the 12 year-old Kenwood. It's being fitted as I type, which is good, because tomorrow we've got a 2-hour journey to my granddad's and I don't particularly fancy listening to nothing but Bruiser's exhaust. As nice as it is, driving on the motorway means it'll just start to sound like a continuous droan.

We're not rich, we bought that head unit with a credit card, dere ain't no way we can spend £130 at the drop of a hat.

I love new head units! :D
...as long as they go well with the car's interior.

Lana will be receiving a new one in the future as well. :)

This one has lights that change colour! You can either set it to change to every colour of the rainbow or have it set on one colour, and then you can further set which shade of that colour you want. Of course, Bruiser will have blue. My dad also found some blue LED footwell lights that he wanted to fit years ago (front and back footwells), so he'll fit those soon too. Now all we need to do is change the colour of the dials, as at the moment they're green.

My first upgrade was getting the Sony Xplode, instead of the stock unit. It's not the best one if I'm lead to believe but they do "modern" ise the car immensely. Well worth a purchase in my opinion Katie's dad.

Are you a British, female version of me or something? I wanted a color-changing one also. And I was going to change Lana's dial colors from green to blue as well, but that would leave the air-con controls and window buttons green, which would look tacky to me. :indiff: So I might just leave them green, since it's a nice tone of green, actually.

Footwell lights? Tell me they look legit. No ricer mods pls.

Head units definitely make the car look younger. I was originally thinking of getting the Mondeo ST head unit, which is a touch-screen SatNav, but this Pioneer head unit looks miles better.

Well, if you obsess over boring underdog cars, rally, and Ken Block, then I am the British female version of you :dopey:. The air-con controls in Bruiser light up green as well I believe, but there's plenty of kits out there that you can buy to make them blue. At the moment, the head unit is set on green to match the dials, but once we get blue dials it'll be turning blue. My mum said she wanted the head unit pink... :indiff:.

As for the footwell lights, well...

I guess they're not too ricey, right?

...right?

If they're anything like the one's that came on my mom's Kia Soul, (Ew) they shouldn't be too bad. And no matter what they can't be worse than the light up speakers on the Soul.

Bruiser is evil. Bruiser is plain evil. He is genuinely the modern reincarnation of Christine.

We spend all that money on him yesterday and what does he do today? Seize his calipers.

Today we were supposed to be going over to Blackpool to see my granddad and teach him how to technology with his new laptop. We stopped off at the petrol station for some fuel for the journey, when suddenly that awful familiar smell begins to fill our nostrils. Burning brakes. My dad, stood fillin' up Bruiser, sheepishly touched the caliper, and confirmed our fears. The caliper had seized on again. We had to head back home and abort the mission of teaching my granddad how to technology. I guess Bruiser just didn't feel like going to Blackpool today.

After hours of many swear words, we managed to free off the caliper, and sort out the handbrake cable which had gone funny too. Lower Bruiser off the jack stands, take him for a drive... and the smelly smell of burning brakes and the feeling of braking when freewheeling was still there. Park him up in the garage again and this time it's the other caliper that has miraculously seized in the time it took us to free off the other one. Great. Bruiser must've had a really bad night's sleep last night, because he did not want us to relax on this fine almost-June Saturday. The other caliper was extremely stubborn and required the whole family (myself, my dad and my mum) to try and free it off. Six hours of blood, sweat and seized calipers later and both were seemingly okay. There's still an awful lot of play in the handbrake but at least you can't smell the burning brakes anymore and neither caliper is hot to touch. @Slash was right - we should've bought a new caliper*. It seems that when the garage replaced the handbrake cable they did a pretty bad job, causing the caliper to experience more problems than it should already have.

We'll see how long it takes Bruiser to be a moody teen again and make us bust our knuckles for something else. He is evil.

After all the hard work, I did manage to get a poor quality video of the new head unit using my crappy Android phone (couldn't use the iPod as obviously it was in use). The sound quality is good enough to show how bassy the head unit is, although I would recommend headphones (rip in piece at 0:20 if you do though) or speakers with good bass to really get a feel for it. We also still need to get a front fascia for it too, it looks kinda small and lonely in there. Listeners of FlyLo FM on GTA V should recognise the choon I used in the video. :sly:

('No Name' means no name given for the album btw)

*We still haven't bought one though lel.

I recently got a Pioneer double DIN unit too and the bass output is insane. Sounds miles better than stock, though.

Similar to the one I was looking at. How much did it improve overall sound?

It improved it a lot over the standard sat nav unit, but then I couldn't access the EQ settings on the standard one so couldn't fine tune the audio properly. The Pioneer has a graphic equalizer as well as several presets to choose from. It helps that the CRV has some decent speakers in the front doors, too. :) The bass really kicks now, it vibrates the mirrors slightly.

Your car is a silly goose. Kinda like Mandy. Her driver's door weather stripping fell off like a dead bird when I opened the door earlier. Now I have to carefully put it on and shut the door fast and hard to prevent it from falling before I seal the door shut. Anyways, I'm sure Bruiser will lighten up eventually. Hopefully time well-spent on replacing and fixing parts will pay off. It's always fun to have a car that needs at least some attention. :D

Cool head unit! I saw that same one when I was looking for one for Suzi, but it's a bit too flashy for her interior.

I guess that was Mandy's "Hi I'm your new car!" present . Reminds me of the time my dad had his old MG Maestro (one a these lil' buggers), when he pulled up at the petrol station, got out and the door completely fell off. The one and only time he strayed away from Ford :dopey:. I complain about Bruiser's problems but in all honesty it's actually a good thing - it gives me plenty of training for when I start working. Calipers are one of the most common faults on MK3 Mondeos anyway so it's really to be expected. But usually they go one at a time.

Oh, really? We just looked on the internet and found the cheapest one (offers ftw lel). I think it suits Bruiser's smart 'n sharp style quite nicely. :sly:

 👍

Radio looks cool. 👍

Thanks! It's really bassy though. It was like being stood outside a nightclub when we were working underneath him.
