Mr. Yamauchi visited the Pebble Beach contest last month (as a judge) and was quite impressed by the old cars present there. Cars from a time that he hopes will be in Gran Turismo one day......

At the pebble beach event, there was an incredible number of very old cars, in absolutely magnificent condition.
For someone like myself, who has always been in touch with only more modern cars, it was a great opportunity to get a feel of the era in which cars were born.

Cars were born at the end of the 19th century. The solid mechanisms of these old cars gathered here, tells a story; that back then, man still lived in the “Age of Fire and Steel”.

And video games that we work to create, were born at the end of the 20th century. The end of the 20th century, was the start of the “Information Age”.

What I felt at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, was that I hope to some day make “Gran Turismo” a bridge that crosses the gap between these two eras that are separated by a hundred years. It looks like we still have much more work to do.

Apparently it will be a while before we ourselves can lay our hands on these beauties at a race track, but I think it will be worth the wait. 👍

Thats the 2008 event, they haven't posted any news on the 2009 event last month yet. Except as I posted in another thread a 1965 Alfa Romeo TZ2 Zagato Competition Berlinetta won the GT award.

Is it 2009 already? Wow, time flies :dopey:

I must have been confused by the news on the japanese version of the official GT site. Here is a Babylon translation (about what I do believe is the 2009 event). ;)

In the 59th [Pebble Beach contest ド・エレガンス] performed in U.S.A. Pebble Beach on August 16 when alpha TZ2 left グランツーリスモ・トロフィー on receiving a prize September 10, 2009, examination of "グランツーリスモ・トロフィー" was performed, and Kazunori Yamauchi of the producer picked product made in Alfa Romeo TZ2 in 1965

Ah I didn't notice they posted info on the 2009 event, coincidence I was talking about the 2008 already today.

I usually do not do this, but any opportunity to show this unique timeless masterpiece that can be matched only by Buggati Atlantique 57SC can't be missed.

And BTW There is whole new news info on official Polyphony site regarding Kazunori's recent visit to Peeblebeach.

Alfa above won the prize if Babelfish is right.

I think he knows, he just said it can only be matched by the Bugatti (i love the T-57 Atlantic btw).

That Alfa above is also a real beauty.

The translation reads:

"This is the "Mantide", from the prestigious design studios of Bertone."

It looks better than the Corvette ZR-1. I hope it finds it's way into GT5!

Edit: Fixed the spelling - thanks Shant J.!

This is what separates GT from other racing games. Most racing games just aim for the most recent sports cars with highest output and whatever 90s era vehicle they feel the average 20 year old would have come into contact with.. Whereas GT focuses on all sports cars from a range of decades, from Can-Ams, to AVUS running stream liners, to Group Cs.

Epic sentence. Very true. I'm 21, and can say that's pretty much the truth. It's true that I love the current high-powered cars and the amazing cars from the 90's, but GT can attract people from all ages. GT is also a history lesson for me.

I was considering doing a video on classic cars for Gran Turismo 5 and what it would do for the GT lineup of cars. But absolutely... Gran Turismos 2 and 4 had a nice emphasis on cars past and present. Hopefully Gran Turismo 5 continues this.

I would love to be able to drive many of the true vintage performance vehicles of the past. I just hope Kaz is not dreaming too far in the past.

This thread needs some T model drifting videos :P

j/k don't hurt me, I love vintage cars too!

that's just too incongruous, a high strung four sound coming out of an A. mabey with an engine at the 150 horse mark, yeah, but I'd be afraid of ripping the dang healights off over 50 miles per hour :P

Well, you can see its son, model A, seriously boosted:

It has a Ford Cosworth engine. Yes, I think the same, is an outrage :yuck:

I can imagine what the Chicago mobsters of the 1920s would've been able to accomplish with that Model A.

Oooh all I ask for from the early 20th century is the Ford Model T, the same one in GT4. I never owned GT4, and it looks like a fun car to drive around the track. Then of course those more "modern" cars like 1940s and later.
