Kazunori's ideas just haven't translated to GT5, what went wrong?

The main thing stopping kaz seeing his vision of the perfect driving game is the hardware its on, the ps3 can not fulfill his dream, maybe gt6 on a next gen playstation will..... I live in hope.

PS3 limitation has nothing to do with it. GT5, although I love it has been a big wasted opportunity. There is likely lots at play, but GT5 is not as it should have been because features added were implemented haphazardly rushed and never given the time or thought that they deserved. Nothing to do with too little ram etc

The GT series has always suffered this, but GT5 is clearly the worst example of this yet when it should have been the best.

Like I said lots at play, KY and PD are to blame for much of this as well as Sony sticking there nose in.

From the outside looking in, there just seems to be something very wrong with how PD as a developer approach things. I always thought Japanese were efficient but PD just seem to be a cataclysmic disaster. If GT5 was not the sort of game to sell extremely well no matter how good or bad it is, PD would have imploded on themselves along time ago.

PD should have lost that perfectionist tag they got the day they got it!! KY should have the nick name of "Half A Job Bob"!!

Cmon man. Be reasonable. I want to quote something Amar said again (about GT5 graphical part), because it is worthy to think about it before spreading the word that PD did "half a job".

"...And everybody can be smart about whatever they want regarding graphical output of GT5, but at this point of time there is no single piece of software on Earth that can do 16 cars on track of GT5 Premium-quality with fully-animated cars, drivers and interiors, real-time visual and mechanical damage calculations, tire and fuel consumption, AI calculations, real-time day/night changes, real time weather changes, dynamic spray, rain, dust and smoke effects, real-time environmental dynamic lightning and particle shadowing, real-time effects of flames and brake-heating, animated pit-crews, 7.1 DTS audio with real-time spatial distortion... running in 1280p/60fps on 512MB of RAM. If that is not something to congratulate upon, I really do not know what is. And yes, alpha-mapping of smoke is the only downside of everything, but it is really not an issue when everything else is into picture. ..."

This is graphic wise but, it's an awesome achievement by their team and honestly it deserve some respect.

I've been watching a lot of people just spread every bad bit about GT5 over these forums for a long time... constructive criticism is welcome but the lack of respect has become crazy.

Of course a dev can never have enough power, but the main issues with GT5 for me and likely for others is the hit and miss nature of the game.

80% of the cars being standards is not GPU/CPU power problem but a time/allocation of resources problem.

The poorly laid out and unimaginative A spec is not a system power issue, its either again a time issue or a lack of imagination.

As for other game features, like NASCAR, Rally, GT500/GT300 Licences as well as Top Gear were all poorly implemented, again either another example of lack of imagination or time.

Then we can talk about the actual racing, no qualifying, a feature that was taken away from previous games with damage and tyre ware absent from many races.

And we have seen improvements with updates, and DLC, and also again lots of poor decisions. I bought the drag strip yet I can't even save and race a ghost of a different car. This was possible in GT4?

There are a tons of more examples but I have not got the time to post up as I am gonna be watching the football:)

I love GT, I still play it and built my own GT website but we can't kid ourselves, and while we like to celebrate PD's achievements we should also critique them for their failings and GT5 has too many.

GT5 in terms of the game is not what PD hoped I am sure, but despite this it still sells as does the DLC so what does it mater to them.

In some respects this current generation has allowed devs to become lazy and dependent on the option to fix in the future via patches as well as to make additional revenue through DLC. The balance yet between developer, game quality, game content is yet to be struck.

👍 We all admit issues with the game, but some people make it out to be unplayable trash that steals money from you.

Diego, we were free running together a couple days ago on Motegi. I was in the Zonda practicing for a series. I knew I recognized your name at the time.

That's a nice post sir. I agree with most of it. 👍 Specially about features that were taken from the series, such as qualifying as you said, and the small A-spec mode. If they had copy-paste GT4 GT Mode it would be much better actually.

Yes! Nice driving on that Zonda. It's a beast, I can immagine how hard is to drive it fast on a wheel. (I'm a DS3 user...)

I know that when I find a room hosted by someone with a GTP in their nicknames I will have a good time. It was some fun driving/practice that one and sometime we just want to drive without the serious mood of a competitive racing. It's been hard to find rooms hosting Motegi, I think people still remember it from GT4 as being a bit bland and it's weird, I used to not like it on GT4 and I'm really enjoying it on GT5.

It would seem that Kaz's ideas translated well non the PS2, but he just hasn't updated or changed his ideas for a new world.

I absolutely love it when disagreements turn into agreements. Fantastic. I am with you both on these points. Manpower, development time, and processer power are all difficult things to tackle, but decision making about what should be important in a racing sim should be comparatively simple.. I only wish we could get some straight answers from PD or Kaz himself on what the true culprit was. Kaz is one strange, guarded dude- and I truly believe that only hurts his franchise more than it helps. Every one of us blokes on these forums want to see Gran Turismo succeed massively, and kick the snot out of any and all competition. When seemingly simple decisions are hindering that once easily-attained goal, the criticism will get a bit loud, and rightly so.

It was pretty bland in GT4. But with 16 cars, better physics, and crisp graphics- Motegi becomes a bit more fun, I can readily admit. As fun as Seattle or El Capitan? Now, thats a debate that Motegi would have a tough time winning. :guilty:

I wish it were that cut-and-dry. The physics and graphical difference between the old gen and GT5 is pretty stark. I think PD pretty much nailed those aspects, for sure. Heck, they hit a home-run as far as I'm concerned. But to abandon race qualifying and telemetry? Downsizing the A-spec career in length, depth, and complexity to an extreme degree? Touting some amazing features through preview videos, presentations, and interviews that never end up in the game?

Kazunori. We love you, man. We know you're a perfectionist that wants the best possible result from your franchise- but the areas on which you focus that perfection are not being prioritized according to the bulk of your repeat customers. We are sim-racers. We are drifters. We are test and tuners. We are lap-time and sector-time junkies. We are sportscar, supercar, and race-car fanatics. The fact that GT Academy even exists is concrete proof that you want us to hone our racing craft. You, yourself have become a competent racing driver now. Bring that valuable experience to your simulator, and leave all of the other sillyness behind.

Got an hour to list all the head scratching bone headed decisions?

The worst part is if they had one single decent fan from gtplanet playtest their game there is no way they would have green lighted these awful design decisions...no way. Whoever agreed on the garbage A-spec lineup must not know a single thing about what people want or expect from a Gran Turismo racing game

An Indianapolis 500 race with sportscars and not the Formula GTs? 👎

No Daytona 500 endurance race? 👎

No XJ13 vs GT40 vs 330 Le Mans 24 hour race with no chicane? 👎

A NASCAR championship with 5 lap races? 👎

A 3 race 10 lap Super GT Championship? 👎

yet you see countless people here on GTP wanting to see GT6 on the PS3, smh. it would be a disaster to stay on this outdated hardware, unless you want more of exactly the same, which was a failure.

I think 99% of people have missed somthing here. If you're an avid fan of GT and like myself have sat here reading countless posts about GT then I'm sure you may have have read the interview with Kaz just after the release of GT 5 stating that any extra content will be released via DLC will be and that he hopes to upgrade all standards to premiums, but new cars may have to wait till GT6.

So he's done the opposite to what he wanted? No upgrades so far but we have seen new cars with the exception of the Jag. But c'mon GT5 today is a completley different game than the game I played 1hr after release. You only need to take a look at the COD titles to see that people like treyarc and I.W really do just take the money and run, after they release their final map packs there are no more patches to improve the title or fix bugs on new maps and hackers are free to roam and ruin the leader boards.

Now I may be speculating here but here is a quote from his recent interview

THUNDERbreaks: Will there be some sort of event editor in the future?
Yamauchi-san: Of course, this is something we’ve been thinking about and I’m keeping it in mind for future improvements.

Not "devolopments" not for "future titles" but IMPROVMENTS so maybe he's going to include this in a future update?

I personally want GT6 for the PS3 and then after a few years of the ps4 we see GT 7 just for the fact that if its a release title for the PS4 it will suck ass, ps2 near the end of its life cycle = GTA san andreas +10, PS3 at the start of its life cycle = gtaIV below average

GT 6 would be the game title of all games to see the PS3 out and I dont see why not, they have the engine that just need tweeking and there are other big titles in the making for the ps3

2J should be removed, just a glitch car imo.

It's a real car that was used on the race track, for three races IIRC. The Jaguar XJ13 on the other hand was never raced as the Reg's changed before it was ready.

The fact that the 2J can blitz the opposition shows just how good the innovation was. The pp value for it is likely well wrong, but there again so are a few other cars'.

Seems to me that even though there is a lot of whinning here, the people who are here are true GT fanatics and love the game.

We only want to see Gran Turismo remain the premiere race game.

Kaz i think has to do better to keep this up.

I haven't read the whole thread but one thing that ruins it for me is real world championships, Cup car racing anyone oh yeah we can only do that in arcade mode :(
