Keeping track of updates

I try to keep track of everyone's updates, I really do, but I know I'm missing some. What I find is that it's difficult knowing what are updates and what are comments in the galleries.

Does anybody agree that it would be a good idea having an update thread, where the poster just puts a link and possibly a description for their latest update, with no other comments allowed? It would allow for a more chronological approach to keeping up with everyone.

That's a good idea; I try to view and comment on everyone's gallery when they update but it is very hard to keep up, like you say.

I think it's a good idea.

I am on a car website and the Members Projects section got split up into 2 parts.
One is for the Member to post up their project car and updates. Only that user can post in that thread. Anyone who does post in it gets that post deleted or moved.
The other is Project Discussion. Anyone can create the thread about a particular project and post in it.

It keeps everything tidy and easy to find.

So maybe adding a new sub-forum ie. GT5 Photomode Forums --> GT5 Photomode Galleries and GT5 Photomode Galleries Discussion/Comments.

Well I updated My gallery with 4 new shots Featuring Honda Civic Type R ,the 8C and the Camaro Z28 (car selected for first WRS combo) 👍

Hmm, I don't really have a major problem with how things are. For me knowing whether something is an update or a reply is often determined by the change of thread title. Almost everyone changes the title of there thread to include a heading for their new update.

If by the time you visit someones gallery and there is already a bunch of comments well, it can't be that far off the update post that it's a nuisanes. Or maybe thats just me.

When I update, I change the title of the thread to show the latest date and also in the first post, in colored type, I list the update.

I know not everyone does that, nor am I suggesting they do. I just think it might help others to see what I'm up to.

Yep, I do that as well, with the title. Where I run into problems though is that when I do get on to catch up with updates I have found a few times that I have overlooked some excellent pictures in someones gallery simply because nobody has commented on theirs, though others have had a load of comments about older updates and so the gallery gets pushed down the page.

It's not a major problem by any means, I know. I just hate to think I might be missing out in some way, and it seemed like a neat little solution.

I agree with GPR, the change of thread title and there being a symbol of new post can indicate an update of some sorts.

An update thread would be a good idea in theory but I doubt it will have any expression in practice. My reason for it is that two things can happen:
1. Everyone posts in here - i.e. my post get's buried under some pages quickly and no one notices my update (at least from here) which makes this thread obsolete to me;
2. No one seems to read stickies - i.e. I post here but no one will read it.

I'm not against the idea, I think it is pretty good in theory and as Sejtur said, let's see how it works out, but, those two seem to be it's overcome (specially number two).

Thanks for the input Nick, and I realise there would be problems- the one that sprang to mind initially would be that everyone would need to post their updates to make it work properly.

The benefits though would be it having a chronological flow, so you could find the last update you looked at in the thread and work down from there. Also you would be able to put on a single subscription and catch all of the updates, if you so wished.

I'm guessing that if a Mod reads this, they would be able to set up the thread and sticky it- I can write the first post concept and rules of the thread if they like? (I think a fresh thread would be a bit tidier to work from than using this one)
