Kermit's Super Formula Street Circuit Cup - Finished

Apologies didn't stay too long post race, had to dash off, but that was good chaotic fun and certainly an interesting experience . Even if I did manage to bottle it late on in the 2nd race (and multiple times before that!) I enjoyed that, so I'll take that result given my lack of consistency and practice. Roll on round 2, Mount Panorama should be...interesting.

Great race today everyone, that was a lot of fun! I can’t believe how close it was there at the end too lol, I think if I’d have stayed to the left instead, it may have been enough, I think scrubbed too much speed cutting over to the right so hard. Thanks for putting this together @Kermit_2142 , I can’t wait for the next one. :) Congrats @GOTMAXPOWER on the win, well done man! Congrats @Kermit_2142 on the podium finish as well!

That was great fun, but boy you lot are fast, no idea how you get them gains, but it probably didn't help me having my first drink in over a year lol.

Sorry for the start in the first race my TCS was on 0 it should have been on 2 don't know why it was on 0
Probably because the lobby settings changed a few times, it you put it on 1 in the practice but 0 in the actual car settings it reverse when lobby restart

I didn't know we were racing at the end, I thought I was safe when the safety car came out

That race was chaos, after all the crashes it was nice to get that longer green flag run at the end to push for some quick laps, we had some nice racing in the top 3 and it's always nice to see a big grid

Haha that was pretty intense :lol:. I was hoping for a little bit of chaos but I think we got way more than we needed in that race .

Had a great battle with @PaoloMX, @Michelin Man and @Pigems and came away with a good result in the end so happy with that.

I’ve got a few ideas that I can make changes to the format slightly that should hopefully calm things down a little for then next round but I’ll have a sleep on it and let you all know.

Hope everyone enjoyed it and congrats to @GOTMAXPOWER with a double win.

I wasn’t 100% sure either. I just figured if you hadn’t hit him, he’d have pitted and we could have theoretically sprinted to the line under green flag. So I went for it, just in case. :D

It made a great photo finish at least!

Thanks @Kermit_2142 for organising. Was a fun race and and definately an experience. Never had a safety car race before and it showed :banghead:. Happy you managed to take a podium. I think I’ve completed my induction of how to drive an SF car slowly now.

Looking forward to Bathurst!

Tough for me - in the reverse grid the car in front didn't move away and I'm pretty sure I annihilated him, I could have been first for t1 with a decent run out of the chaos but it took me that whole race to remember some of the corners were there anyway so, no harm no foul.

As for the feature I was having a great time and going forwards but I think my focus really slipped with the long safety cars and everyone was making mistakes. I was doing well during the brief green running, then in the second SC I hit @Adam Barber while he was weaving and got wing damage just before the green flag. That was after like 3 straight SC laps and I decided I wouldn't bother calling another one straight out as we had barely had any racing in 4/5 laps.

Naturally of course that was then the longest green flag period, and when the SC came out again I caught it first and didn't pass it (only finding out I could halfway thru the lap despite asking, I guess my mic was quiet) and had no chance to catch it again, so that killed my race really.

Hoping the action can last the whole race last time as when I did get the chance to go green in proximity to other cars I felt I was doing well.

I wondered what happened, you where faster than me for the most time but suddenly you where behind.
I also did pit to repair without calling the SC but I got lucky and had another SC period almost immediately after coming out.

I wonder how Bathurst will be. I heard everyone saying "flat over the Mountain top" and I can't do that. If I don't lift I will touch the gravel. And there is certainly no way I can go down the slope at full throttle...
I think I will become a Road Block...

Edit: when I tried to fast forward in the replay my whole GT Sport crashed...

(no I didn’t hear you in the chaos sorry )

Yh agree with everything you’ve said there, I think the SF cars are way more sensitive to damage than the GT cars we ran in the endurance series. Watching the replay and half the field had damage (Including myself) even during the clean running. We would’ve had SC for the whole race if everyone had called for one. For those who did call the SC everyone followed the procedure correctly and it went well for the most part I think.

Issues I want to fix for the next race.

Race 1
standing start - I didn’t expect “that” much of a crash . I also forgot to use TC but as I was at the back I didn’t hurt anyone but I can see what happened and it’s guaranteed to happen again so this will go to a rolling start. Race 1 was a lot of fun and would have been even better had it not been for the huge start accident.

Race 2 -
People getting damage during SC (due to weaving and just careless driving). If you rear end a car, you get wing damage but they get full engine damage, so more care is needed for sure. More space between cars, less or even no weaving and if any damage is picked up during SC it’s going to have to be tough luck I think as I might mandate SC only to do 1 lap at a time.

Half the field having minor damage and constant SC. I think minor damage (wing damage) as it was so common and it doesn’t affect the car too much, I won’t be forcing SC going forward. So SC will be more of an “option” if you want to pit to repair damage instead of a SC for every slight contact. This is only due to the damage on SF cars being more sensitive and mid pack contact is bound to happen.

I’ll confirm next week. I think with a few small tweeks we can find a nice balance like we had with the endurance series. Luckily I planned for reverse grids as it gives those who inevitably get tangled up to start nearer the front next race 👍

I haven’t laughed like that during GT for a while, sometimes this game can get a bit overly serious. I might’ve laughed myself to sleep last night

I had an awesome time last night (except for the unexpected disconnect after T1 in the qualifier race) although don't feel I "raced" more than 4 laps.

Learned some important lessons which I hope to take into future races (one I learned reading this post):

1. For the driver I rear ended twice - I apologize. I am terribly sorry and did not realize I affected your race that much (See note below).

2. I did not call for the safety car at all even though there were 2 spins and a few scrapes. The all ended with no damage so I continued on. The wing aero damage from the rear end collisions I saw no impact (at the time) so continued on. Watching the replay I believe it impacted speed and corner stability more than I saw and explains why I could not get a better lap than 2:46 all night. All damage impacts lap times.

I am not sure who is counting penalties but I stop counting at 10. The first turn and bridge exit turns I did really well but the very last turn onto the grandstand straight-away got me too many times. A few others (back-to-back right handers) I know I cut short as well. I think once coming off the back straight-away into the quick S was cut short on the first turn. More practice needed.

3. I need to review SC procedures. I missed the call out on L2 and came barreling around the turn onto the back straight-away only to find the entire field sitting there. Luckily I did not kill anyone by driving wide (almost into the sand box) and throwing on a full brake package to get me back in line where I belong. I need to adjust on my PS4 the lettering size, chat window time open, or something so I don't miss the call outs.

I think on L13 a few of us got confused because we met the SC on the back straight-away and were lined up but then realized we were 11,12, and 13 so we probably could have gone around. We waited until the SC was checking the grass on the bridge on-ramp before we continued past him. Never saw that grass report - still green on that side?

4. Reverse grid threw me up front in qualifier. I botched T1 (right before my disconnect) because the turn approach (inside lane with sharper right hand turn than expected) was something I had not practiced. Adding that to the practice list.

Overall had a great time, thank you all that participated, and double thanks to Kermit for hosting. Looking forward to Bathurst, still not quite ready for coming off the mountain yet but there is time for practice.

Enjoy the racing!

I tried a few Custom Races this morning to prepare for Bathurst, it’s gonna be absolute chaos!!

Mt.Pano isn’t even half as wide as St.Croix was.

Edit: And yes, I fixed the missing paint on the inside of my halo immediately after making this video. 👍

We better all be better behaved behind the safety car then

I think maybe everyone should join the chat next race, weather they have a mic or not. At least they can hear the in race announcements right away for safety cars/accidents, if you’re paying attention to driving or in a battle, it’s easy to miss it in the text window.

I didn’t notice yesterday, did the safety car have lights flashing when it came out? Not that it would make much difference in a day time race, I’m just curious. :)

Lmao, never thought to plug my headset in and yes missed it once or twice in the text box.
Forgot to save the replays has anyone got them available in thier replay galleries.

I just figure with the heavy damage and safe cars, the faster/easier we can get info to people on track the better for everyone. :)

I have both replays, I’ll share them in game I’m here shortly for you. I’ll tag them GTP, TPC and SF. :)

The first was always going to be a bit awkward due to people getting used to the cars, each other and the SC. We had the same in the first endurance round.

Although watching the replay race 1 was good after the crash and race 2 wasn’t too bad it’s felt worse because the lap was so much longer than is normal.

Round 2 will be better 👍

The one thing in it's favour is that we should all know the track better than St Croix so in theory there will be less single car crashes (unless we go for the night race :odd:). Changing race 1 to a rolling start is a good move there just because the grid is so narrow and the gap between rows is a lot shorter than other tracks.

I think we all need to give each other more space under the safety car, on the first start I sideswiped @Pigems warming the tyres because we had an overlap. It doesn't hurt to offset your line against the car ahead too, if they brake unexpectedly you won't drive into the back of them (some amateurs did that at Mugello a few weeks ago).

btw thank you to whoever crashed on lap 6, the safety car was timed perfectly to watch the end of the Xfinity race .
