Does anyone notice? Halfway through the race the car sound just cuts off. I was using NTSC disc version 1.0.

First few laps was fine, but at lap 24 the sound starts to get awry. It becomes smaller and smaller and one by one the sound effects diminish (tire squeal, kerb riding, etc). By lap 40 all that was left was the hissing of my car's turbo (I was using Altezza LM). On lap 50 the hissing was gone also and I tried to resolve the problem by pausing and unpausing, the engine sound came back for a few seconds but it disappeared again shortly. Finally on lap 60 the engine sound came back, but it is very small and sounds like the engine has a sore throat (the other sound effects still hadn't came back). It remained that way until the end of the race (lap 90).

I know it doesn't have any effect on the race performance whatsoever, but it's annoying as hell to drive an enduro without any sound (can you imagine how boring it is?). I checked whether the AV cable was loose and I even switched to normal TV channel to see if the problem was with my TV's speaker. But all was fine except for the game itself. I thought it was just a PD goof-up, but it's quite creepy how the sound one by one disappeared...

Does any of you ever experienced this problem?

P.S. Another PD goof-up: You can buy intercoolers (sport and racing) for wiegert vector W12 twinturbo, but you can't find the intercooler page on the settings screen! So once you installed it, you can't take it off or switch between racing/sport!

I don't know about the intercooler problem but YES, that sound cut-out thing is a very real and annoying glitch. It happens in 1.0. It happens in 1.2/greatest hits. PD apparently never fixed it. I HATE it, too. You're halfway thru Laguna, and all a sudden you have no way of knowing if there's a car behind you (by sound). You have no way of knowing if your wheels are locking up when you apply brakes so all a sudden your braking gets all screwy :banghead:

What's weird is some enduros get messed up with this glitch--others don't. And then some of the race series (GT300, World Cup) start getting messed up too, altho not as bad as enduros.

Another thing I noticed. When you do a race and the sound is cutting out, but you save the replay, you'll notice in the replay the sound is fine!

Imagine if that happended while driving a race car thats about to be blown to picies by a carefully planted boom during the race. There is a count down on the bomb, saying 5,4,3. Then suudenly after 2 the sound comes back. 1, driver: ''What the Hell''!

BOOM!

To Parnelli: Yes, the GT world cup races are also screwy with the music. I remembered that before the countdown of each race there is a short intro music to the race which is not found on other races. Even if you turned the music volume off in the options menu the intro music will still be there although the race music won't.

Yeah, even with the music off, the sound is still screwy. The first race at Trail Mountain is fine, but by the time you're at Rome, it's usually cutting out a bit...which really SUCKs at a track like Rome where braking is crucial lest you hit a city wall.

Really? I think the music is okay at Rome...

However, I must agree with you that it is irritating.

It also seems to happen in any race in my copy of the game.

The thing is sound cut-offs don't always happen in series races. I just remember doing the World cup a while back, and the sound started going so I saved the race (it was a good one with a lot of "will Parnelli win this one?" sort of drama). After I saved the race, the actual replay sounded fine.

I guess that it is just the speakers on my television then. After all, it IS of 12 years in existence...

For me, it was more of the speakers dying, so one camera angle had sound, and the other did not.

But, interesting to note, this sort of thing happened on my copy of GT3 while watching or racing in SS R11 All Night.

Wow. now that's unusual....I've never had any sound probs in 3 or 4. 👎
