LAN GT4- How To (Please help)

Question for the ones who have done it corectly with gT4, when you watch the replay does it come up as split screen or single screen... this is a really important question. And the 2 question is when you are playing gt4 lan do you get to used your own cars... or do you have to use the arcade cars... :(

When you play 2 player splitscreen the replay will be splitspreen too. If you play LAN the replay will be single screen.

You have to use arcade cars. You can make a selection of 30 cars out of the whole bunch. How that works was described a few posts earlier.

EDIT: I corrected this post as I was saying that there would be no replay in LAN mode, but there actually is. Sorry for that wrong information. :ill:

If you are connecting say the Japanese and American versions of the game make sure your favourites don't include the cars that are new to the American version. Select one of those and the game will lock. I tried it to see if the car was actually in the Japanese version.

Twisted pair should not be confused with a crossover cable. All CAT5 is twisted pair, meaning uses twisted pairs of cable in it. A crossover is one of these set up different, and is only used when NOT using a switch or router.

For 2 PS2's:
each ps2 needs a network adapter, and CROSSOVER cables not ur standard network cable for direct connect.

More than 2 PS2's:
each ps2 need just a simple 10/100mbps switch with all ps2's connected to it through standard UTP cables.

I can't get this to work.

I have :

2 PS2s
2 Monitors
2 Cables
1 Router

Both PS2s are plugged into the router. Both are slimline new PS2s.

I have ps2A (Player1) as Host
I have ps2B (undies) as not Host

2 Players

Player1 :
Auto-Connect
1

undies :
Auto-Connect
2

I start undies 2 seconds before Player1 and it gets down to 2 .'s while Player1 goes black. Nothing happens after that. I quit with undies and then Player1 pops up with the map screen, gives like 4 error beeps or 5, and then quits.

I don't use crossover cables b/c I have a router. Both are usingn Cat5 Cables.

Any help?

Okay, the information given was still not complete here but helped us a lot when me and my friend set out to get a ps2 to ps2 game going using an X-Over cable. (cross over)

The above information is right, about changing DHCP to NO and setting the ips to something like 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2

Howoever, this still does not work without some tinkering.

One PS2 has to be set to host in the Lan Options in the options menu. Leave monitors at zero (unlike previous posts indicate) Also set the players to two.

Make sure that in your network options in the options menu that auto connect is not on.

For it to work, the person JOINING the game, not hosting, must hit connect on the connection screen before the host does, by about two seconds. If you don't do this right, and you don't have freshly booted PS2's, it probably wont work. If you have any problems connecting at all, you need to reboot them again and start over.

Also make sure that your lan configs are getting saved, as their is no autosave outside of Gran Turismo mode. You can do this by going to the main menu and hitting save game.

We had some problems still, we would get all the way to loading up the race itself and it would freeze, but started over and everything was fine, and played about 20 times consecutively with no problems. You do not need to recreate a lan session after every race, just to clarify that.

Any cars that you use in lan mode must be "added to your favorites" in arcade mode. There are no garage cars available, and no replay saves available. A few select cars will not work even if you have them added to favorites for whatever reason. For instance, trying to use the Prowler in Lan mode gives the error "Cannot be used in 2p battle mode"

Its pretty dry, and not real feature rich, but you can still have some good races. We experienced no stuttering and no fps drops, everything was silky smooth, of course after spending the 3 hours on trying to figure out the sequence to get it to work.

Hope this helps some of you that are still having problems.

EDIT: your track registrys do not need to be identical, if the host selects a track that is not in your registry, the other ps2 will automaticly switch to it. Also, replays are viewable on both tv's imediately after the race, and everything is synced, so if one person exits the replay, you both exit. Same thing with pause during race. I will add whatever else I can think of.

EDIT #2: To answer the above post, the number of players are configured in the lan options menu, but I as well, cannot find a place to change the number of laps, after searching for a while. Please post if you have any solution to this

Edit 3? - to change laps for LAN local link - go to options, 2 player battle, change number of laps to whatever, exit and save. Everyone is set to that number of laps when linked.

this suckes :( i got the Lan game to work (2ps2's) but i guess it not that much fun because i can't even use my special tuned car's :| and when you want to stop, you need to reset your ps2 to go back to the main menu is that right?

and what if we both want to drive the same car's we should pick all the cars before we start racing.. ?!

I mean what if you play with 6people? I guess before you start you need to make a list of cars to add to your fav list but if someone is not as far as you in the game progress he/she can't join because they don't have that car already? Right?

It should be like this.. the host should pick some cars, and every one else can use them.

agggh sorry about my English :( i hope you know what i mean..

You're right, in fact i wrote a little list of cars for LAN, they come as standard so everyone should have them:

My friends have found it useful.

we tried to do a lan party last night, kind of worked. heres a few problems we had:

1: connecting was hit or miss, sometime it would, sometimes it wouldnt

2: we had an 8 port hub, but could not get all 6 of them to link up, unless it does take 2-4 minutes like sony says, but were impatient

3: when we had 5 people together, it was very slow and laggy

so would a good hub fix any of this, or is the game just not that great for lan stuff (we never got the 8 port to work, a 4 we had never worked either, but a really old 5 port did, i think it might have been laggy because the hub was old

Hi, just been checking out the info on this link, got to say I agree that getting info on this from a sony source is useless, just ordered 2 network box's and one cross over cable but just have a question, does the cross over cable have to be a official sony supplied cable or do any 3rd cross over cable work ok, probably a daft question but aint to clued up on this stuff. cheers

ok we did get it to work we tried everything crossover and hubs no luck, i then stumbled onto this link on here u just need some regular cat 5e and a router it does work. and if u follow everthing on it it does work just u need to make a new internet connection thingy then go. follow the pictures it will work and the weird Japanese is
for player or what ever u want to call it it does work
here is the link if u guys dont get this u are stupid just follow the pitures

Im just gonna just wait till I get my network box and cable and have a go, it seems everyone has different ideas of what and how to perform this 2 player link up. Hope I havent spent cash for no reason

Quick question. Can I walk into my local computer store and simply ask for a crossover cable? Is there only one type of crossover cable? Thanks.

Yeah thats not a problem, most computer stores provide these cables and the only real difference in price vaires on the lengh of cable you need

Hi mate i was wondering why the connection it is still not working for me, Ive got a very basic set up(two old playstations with network adapters) hooked up by the cross over cable. Its not working at all, it get to the last load screen and then it simply stays there.
O.K this is the way its set up
- first ps2 is host second is not.
- no of players 2
- no of screens 0
-l traffic is set to light for both
- host is set to manual set up for connetion
- secoundary ps2 manual config as well
hosts ip is 192.168.0.1
secondary is 192.168.0.2
all the other stuff is left alone
we have diff names at options in lan config
both have only three levels selected wich are the same
both have pre selected cars in fav mode.

I have spent more time on the set up than i would have liked and still to no avail can you help us out please by telling us some other way or pick out faults in what im doing

Cheers

How 'bout the dots?

At the screen "waiting for connection", the host console should show some text on the very bottom of the screen, and there should be one dot on the right side of that text. One dot means that this is the host console, the host should enter the network first by the way.

The second console should, when entering the network, show the same text with three dots at first (meaning that there's no connection yet), which should jump to two dots (meaning that a connection with the host has been established) after a few seconds. If the second console doesn't show two dots after a few seconds, something is set up improperly or the cable is broken.

Additionally, set the network mask on both consoles to "255.255.255.0".

If the car is fast enough, then you should have time to make a pit stop. get the tires changed, and finish up the race. it is recommended that you pit somewhere close to every 4 laps if running stickier compound tyres.

i am thinking about doing the mutly tv/ps2 set u pto play with a equal skilled racer and i was woundering if someone could post a pic or 2 of the "crossover" cable and where they got it at, i can only seem to find way to much of the cable on the net, ie futureshop. i need like 3 feet of the cable instead of 25,0 or 100 feet which is alot more expensive. Then i have to get my friend to buy a network adaptor... :ouch:

Baz_lad wrong place to post that question , but being 93.3% done the game, i haven't done a race were win the gt-1, so u will have to fork over 4.5mil for a new 1 or 3.# million for the used black 1.

Thanks to everyone who has tried to help out in the previous posts. By using the numbers given in this thread, we've finally got it working. " Interceptor's" post was the final part of the puzzle. All three of us , entering one at a time, were at the track selection screen in less than three minutes. Rock On !

Just wanted to add the following if it helps someone tear a little less hair out than me...

I have 2 PS2's each with a wireless bridge going to a linksys router, I set the Routers IP address to be 192.168.0.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

The bridges pick up a IP address from the DHCP connection in this case the host got 192.168.0.4 the 2nd got 192.168.0.5

The link provided above

http://www.granturismo.de/forums/showpost.php?p=392538&postcount=37

shows clearly what to do for a basic LAN setup, the bit i missed was that the host machine SHOULD HAVE AUTO CONNECT OFF - make sure your network connection stuff is setup correct as detailed within this forum.
The 2nd (and I assume other machines) SHOULD HAVE AUTO CONNECT ON.

Now all I have to figure out is how to get XLink Kai working with a wireless router so XLink can't be the dhcp server. Anyone?
