LAN GT4- How To (Please help)

👍 Got everything working yesterday! Two tv's, two (New) slimline Ps2s , Two gt4 disks
,a Linksys hub, and two networking cables. The tricky part was the game lan configuration setup . I will post he complete step by step as soon as I get the pics done.

Ok, I have 2 (first generation) Playstation2, 2 TV's, 2 GT4 games, 2 internet modules (the ones you plug in the back) and a cross cable:

I never did these sort of settings (even the internet modules I have no clue how to set them)...

Can somebody explain me what to do from the beginning to know how to set all this (after I plugged everything together)?
And do I missing some material to do it?

Still waiting for my network adaptors to be dispatched from amazon, nightmare I really want to have a go at this link up thing! well at least I will have some good cars unlocked by the time it arrives!

Hi ive found this topic post very useful 👍
We did have the same problems when we connected up two ps2 yesterday, for the record one machine was the early machine with the bolt on net adaptor, the other machine was the slimline ps2 with the built in net adaptor....
After alot of messing about it worked 👍 :)

Weather you all agree or disagree.....one of the main points of playing the game was to be able to race against each other in a two player game and use our own cars from the garage with our own set ups.....like the other posts say,YOU CANT do it :banghead: :banghead: its not the end of the world,we played GT4 for 12 hours yesterday, but it would have been a dam sight more fun if we could have messed with the car setups :grumpy:
Its just a case that they havent thought the whole thing through,i cant see that it would be beyond the power of the ps2s,just after waiting 2 years or more for the game,i would have rather waited another 6 months to play it and make the game better...I also think its really poor that there was not much info in the GT4 instructions about setting up the LAN connection 👎

Another point i wasnt happy about was....my friend said try this car ive setup,so i tryed it on a one player game and said lets buy the car from you...
From memory i believe on the other GT games if you bought a car off a friend in the trade part of the game you had the setup and spec he had eg lowered, higher bhp etc...
So i buys this car in the trade bit, :banghead: only to find its standard spec
Is it going to be GT9 before they get it right....
Rant over....
GT4 great game....could have been thought though abit better...

Cheers chips..

Got the network adaptors at last, hole through bedroom wall for cross over cable drilled and guess wot............... not connecting!. never mind will keep trying, shame about not being able to use your own cars, had the same downer when I got a i link for gt3 and disscovered the same flaw all that time ago, oh well gt5 mabey

Well ive finally got the connection to work brill! all works fine and connects straight away, just trying to figure out how to use guarage cars now, kind of defies the whole point of 2 player link if you can only use pre set game cars. Anyone has any ideas about how to do this?

I bought the Playstation internet modem ONLY for 2 players LAN game mode, not in the attempt to play online on the internet (ouf!).

When I bought the internet modem, there is a CD included that come with it for the internet connection set-up (for the world wide web connection).

Do I have to programming something with this CD or do I have to ignore it and just set up in the LAN connection set-up in the GT4 game?

Your post made absoultely, positively no sense at all.

But,I will try and answer it the best I can.

There is no modem that you buy for the PS2.You use a Network Adaptor, not a modem.

The CD that comes with the Network Adaptor is for setting up your network configuration for your PS2.You need a memory card with considerable free space to do this.

For Online Play you HAVE to use the CD to set up your ISP info, network settings etc.I am not sure of this for LAN (as I haven't played a PS2 lan game,or set one up).

I am assuming you should pop in the CD just to make sure it will work.

I am not going to tell you how to do this,as you should be smart enough to know how to read instructions.

And to people badmouthing PD for not telling you how to set up a LAN...

Complain to SCEA in itself!PD didn't make the PS2.Try reading the instruction manual to your PS2 for once!

MachOne, you are being overly harsh.

Since the PS2's Network Adapter also allows the PS2 to go on-line over a telephone line, it is also a modem - it has to be modem, to be able to do that.

Relax and play your game.

OK, i'm gonna try a Netgear Fast Ethernet Switch and LAN regular cables tonight with 2 PS2 slim.

If it works as stated here, i'll post pics and everything.

I've spent about an hour and a half reading all the thread... Wish me luck.

Very useful thread. Saved us when we got into trouble today trying it for the first time. Two player via a cross over cable, worked great.

Now for the next question, has anybody actually managed to connect two PS2's to play GT4 over the internet? Is there anyway to set up to play each other from two different houses using our broadband modems?

Yes there is, you'll have to download KAI Xlink. Try google search...
And there is some threads on GT planet too... Try "Xlink" in search...

Apologies for a further "I can't get it working" post, but unfortunately, er, I can't get it working!!

So, here's what we have.
1 Old Ps2 with network adapter
1 New PS2
1 Router
A bunch of cat5 (non crossover) cable

I have changed the IP address's to 192.168.0.10 and 11 respectively (not 1 as that is the modem that is connected to the router as well)

The Subnet is 255.255.255.0.

We waited 2 seconds after connecting the non host machine, and then connected the host, and.......... Nothing. Nada.

Just the annoying waiting for connection screen on both tv's.

So, where am I going wrong?? :dunce:

Hob bout the dots, did the host have one and the client have three, changing to two? And try to set up the host before the client.

Host goes in first and in LAN optionns No. of players must be set to 1 (number of players -1)
The host actually doesn't need to go in first, but I'd try anyway. I've successfully set up LANs where the host didn't enter the network first, but still it connected properly. Nonetheless, we usually let the host go in first.
And the number of players must be set to 2, because you have two players (1 host and 1 client). If you put in 1, the host will enter the network session alone.

Do you have the # of monitors set to 0 in the options / lan settings? I had to change that on mine and it worked then.

im going to use a network adapter in my old ps2 and connect it to my slim ps2 directly using a crossover cable. is that correct?

would any cross over cable work, such as this one from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000121VJ6/qid=1144936983/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/026-0904816-9153255

Yes. UTP, FTP, does not matter. Only thing matters that it is an Ethernet RJ-45 crossover cable.

Here is a pretty useless bit of information, but you can regonize a crossover cable from within the plugs. Hold both plugs next to eachother, so that you see the colors of the wires. If the colors are on the same order, it's a standard cable, and if they are on different order, it's a crossover cable.

Yes, you just need the right cable.
Use a crossover cable, not a normal networking cable.

Check out the step-by-step GT4 LAN guide in my sig.

Ok i need some help, ive read through this and the LAN guide by MasterGT.

I have a PS3 connected wireless, and a PS2 with network adapter and/or a slim PS2. I have a linksys router and wireless adapter for my PS2 so all of those are connected wirelessly. I wanna know if theres a way to LAN just through wireless or what i have to do. From the thread and guide im still confused, do i just connect the PS2/PS3 to the router with an ethernet cable and then try it, or do i also need wires to connect to the PS2 and PS3. Also whats the difference between an ethernet cable and a crossover cable?

If you're linking two machines to each other, you need a crossover cable. If you're linking two machines to each other via a switch, you need straight ethernet cables.

I think you'll need a switch rather than a router, and I don't think it's possible to have one WLAN machine and one non-WLAN machine.

A crossover cable between your PS2 and PS3 ethernet ports should do the trick.

Ok thanks, im just wondering how much is a crossover cable...
