in car and driver magaizin like 2004 ultimate comparassions they compared the sti and evo8 and they said they were pretty close but they chose the evo 8 over the sti. http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=15&article_id=6640&page_number=1
well me and my friend tested the car performance on test track for speed and the sti was faster accel and top speed. but anyways i seen a vid of evo doing a U turn from a dead stop cant turn well at like parking lots speeds but handles like a race car and high speeds. i dont kno much bout the sti. i like em both no favs.

hey, i missed something about this wr1 thing. is it like the oz racing package for the lancer?

It's a one-off run of 500 cars built to commemorate Petter Solberg's WRC driver's title.

I hate when people say "Car and Driver" said... you didn't drive it for them did you... so maybe you should drive them both and then have your own opinon... not one from 4 rich guys who live their lifes driving $500,000 sports cars for free.

ROFL!

Besides my preference (which is Subaru...) I have the following question:
Is there some sort of a rivalry in Japan between Subaru and Mitsubishi drivers? In Germany for instance, a lot of Opel drivers dislike VW and vice versa..

Oh My God, you're reading skills are as good as Hellen Kellers in the dark.
he did state that he and his friend took out a sti and an evo and tested them themselves, or i'm sneezing sentences out of nose. :dunce:

Evos are the best the got the power to win Subaru. My favorite is all them. I dont have a single subaru impreaza in my grage. but i do have a lot of evos everyone of them.

Everybody fight let EVO win you know it the best you just making a mistake like going with the people who like Imprezas.

Change your mind and go for EVO.

Alrighty then!

My brother got involved in some "spirited driving" with an EvoVI a while ago. As they passed from a lower speed limit area to a higher speed limit area, they both accelerated. My brother had to back off immediately as he nearly hit the back of the EvoVI.

It all depends what Evo you're comparing to what Impreza. An EvoVIII FQ-400 will cane any of the other variants of either car on a track. But at 80hp and £10,000 more than the quickest Impreza, it bloody should do. Then again, for day-to-day use, it's nearly utterly pointless as, until you're on-boost, you've got as much available power as a 1.8 Mondeo

The FQ-300 on the other hand, with just 20hp less than and the same price as the WR1 gets buggered to the tune of a full half second to 62mph. The Type 25 Impreza (an unofficial car, built by Litchfield to address availability and practicality issues with the Spec C) is not notably higher in price, but even faster.

As a general rule, Evos have always been quicker than their contemporary Impreza peers. The gap was small in the Evo, Evo 2 and Evo 3 range. The Evo 4, 5 and 6 pulled the gap wider - assisted by the godawful Bugeye Impreza. But since the Evo VII and Impreza III the gap has narrowed and, at the top end, cost-for-cost, the Impreza is the better, faster, quicker and more practical car.

Though I hate both. Vulgar tosswagons.

I've been driving early versions of both cars (up to '95...so version II Sti and an Evo 2) and can't vote on this thread.

For off-road, I prefer the Evo. It's just easier to drive in the dirt...I've been able to slide an early Evo into a corner, plant the throttle, and it won't get sideways or spin. No special settings, no LSD, no VCD.

Early STis are too oversteerish in the dirt. With this car, I had to install a 2-way diff to keep it from being so spin-happy. I also learned not to throw them into corners as hard...and once you're in that corner, you have to keep a slight amount of gas on to keep the STi from getting too sideways.

But I prefer the STI on pavement. It oversteers slightly when you let off gas & brakes ++

The early Evos understeer way too much. :grumpy: I had to install a VCD with a nearly-full rear-drive bias to make them less pushy. :grumpy:

Anyways, I'm only talking about early versions of both cars...I have yet to drive later ones in GT4.

When it comes down to overall performance in-game i would pick the Impreza, the spec-c more than proves itself to be a dominting supercar killer on the track and on the strip.

However, to own in real life i prefer the Evo. Looks better, sounds better, and theres a huge parts list for upgrades and overall modifying, dont forget, its an EVO that holds the tsukuba super lap record.

I love Impreza's, and I dont like Evo's, but for some reason I cant hate evos.
But I still love that 2.5 boxer sound.
Subi Lov:tup:

The GC era of Impreza's, I have always thought look pretty agressive for their time, especially the 22B, the only truly agressive looking Evo I think is the new X MR, the other's always seemed kinda dull

I started a Evo guy, switched to Impreza's later on and have stuck with them since

Impreza it is

In Real Life = Evo (I can't stand that boxer growl now after 15yrs of hearing Rexies on the road......)
GT4 = Spec-C, can't beat it's performance.

Lancer, every time. Especially since Subaru ruined the Impreza with it's new design. I know we don't see the new one in the game, but still. I mean, come on, what were they thinking when they designed that? The Lancer is a much better looking car thean the Impreza aswell.

The Imp is a nicer car, and I do like it more, but the Lancer just has that lovely AYC. And in GT4, where understeer rules the day, that gives it the win.

It's hard to decide. They're both great cars. But I'd probably go for the Impreza (Base, WRX, & WRX STI).

The Impreza. Though it's a subjective opinion, since as far as performance goes, I stick with the Lancer. But then again, I love the Impreza. If Lancers were only a little lighter...
