Lap Time Benchmark

If everyone would go back and update their posts with the horsepower of the cars they used, I'm going to try and implement GrumpEones suggestion. It may take me a while to collect all of mine.

Use United States Horse Power ratings.

SVX I looked yours up because it was stock and its 276 Hp. Certain stock cars I can't look up so easily though, like the Ford RS200 Rally Car '85 or the Dodge Viper GTS-R Team Oreca Race Car '00.

A couple of my horsepowers may be off from when I did the lap due to wear or maintenance.

My Subaru was a used car, when I used it, I gave it a car wash and an oil change. For the hp ratings, I went to the garage to check the hp (where it has all of the cars in your garage).

Yeah, thats how I checked mine as well, but my units of measure are US measure Hp instead of British Hp. As far as just doing an oil change on a stock car raising the Hp by 20 or so on your car I don't know. I can put the 294 if you want, it is up to you.

Just a question, but I haven't tuned my Audi at all, the stock power is about 800, but when you look at it in the showroom it says 599, buy the car (or check if you already have it) and look at the power, only tuning on any race car I own is, tires and oil change, I think it's the tires aye, is it??

See I'm the opposite, all of my race cars are tuned and usually to the maximum. Yes I have the Audi R8, but it hasn't been stock or near stock for quite some time and most of the car lists don't show its stock horsepower. So certain ones like the Audi R8 and Viper team Orca and a few others you will have to tell me their horsepower stock if you want it listed. If anyone knows they can say so as well.

Go with the horsepower listed in your garage, as there is quite a bit a variance in horsepower listings in various places.

Would some of you care to try a little game/experiment with this? We could have the winner (me first time out) pick the manufacturer of a car then either roll a percentile type randomness roll to pick the car from that manufacture or pick the car as well as the manufacturer. It would have to be a car that isn't hard to get like ones in driving missions or somesuch so that everyone could concieveably get the car in question. Then once the car is picked we race it on a given track or the track is also picked or voted on. The results would then be added to the benchmark list from all particpants. This would probably work best with stock cars limited to production cars only and ones that you can buy but not the rare ones in the used car lots, but there are other options. What do you all think?

Excellent Idea, kind of a control for all drivers participating. To make this idea produce statistically relevant data, might I suggest we work 1 car through each upgrade level; for each level list exactly what upgrades are to be used and the Horsepower (as listed in car's setup settings screen). Then we should pick 3 tracks, one higher speed track that is not the Test course, one track with many turns (city), and one dirt or snow track. This would produce 15 times per driver, as a control to evaluate all the other times by that driver. Although it may be a little much for some, running 15 best times, it would be the best chance to produce real usable statistical data, and give a real good baseline of each driver. Then we could run a game/contest consisting of 1 car, 1 upgrade level, and 1 track.

The data collected should show each driver's strengths and weaknesses, I already know I am bad with stock (low power) cars mostly because of lack of use, I tend toward the Extreme upgrade level due to customizing/tuning potential. Also I like the insane speed of Hybridized cars, with the ultra high top speed (300-500mph) and always being on the edge of a wreck, which explains why it is hard to grab a low powered car for a time trial, I am used to much higher speed and brake way too early until I get used to it (7-10 laps, usually 3-4 setup adjustments).

Either direction you want to take this idea, toward relevant statistical baseline data, or toward just a fun game/competition, I am in.

Sounds like an awesome idea!

Also, I checked what the hp of my Subaru, and it said 294hp still.

I'd like to be a part of this as well. Would we use a popular car like an Impreza or a lesser known like the Will Vs?

In my garage the horsepower on the Audi originally said 809 I think, then I gave it an oil change and it says 834 HP, but that 25 HP makes no difference, and I did some times on tires I bought, same thing with the Viper, bought it and it had about 590, new oil, 627HP. On every race car, I buy new tires and give it an oil change, so I don't know if that is stock or not, personally, I think it is.

Viper GTS-R Team Oreca: 627HP
Audi R8 race car '01: 834HP
That's what it says in my garage.

Well since we need someone to start the cycle, that would be me and I would pick a fairly easy to get car, then eveyone who has aggreed to participate aquires and drives that car on the track or tracks in the circuit we establish. Everyone posts their times and the best of the times picks the next car, unless anyone has a better method. (4 participants so far)

The real question is how do we determine the track or tracks to be driven, let the one who picked the car pick it or have a set track or a random roll or any other good idea.

Another thing is we would likely need a time frame to get this done it, so we aren't waiting incessantly cause life happens and stuff.

GrumpEones Idea was a bit more then what I had in mind, though we are kind of heading in the same direction, but at a different pace. I do like his idea of a short course, medium course, test track type circuit.

Cars
Stock (Fresh out of the used car lot or dealership if you don't already have it.)
Upgrade Levels (Could use my upgrade levels to determine what level of mod a car would have.)
Extreme (Maxed out cars.)

Tracks
Single (A single track.)
Circuit (Various lengths, 3, 5 tracks per circut would seem good.)

*Sample*
Opel Tigra 1.6i - stock
Fuji Speedway '80

Skython11 thanks for the Audi and Viper. Can you get your Hp for the Ford RS200 Rally Car '85 and Ford RS200 '84? That should complete the chart todate.

Thanks mate, chart complete.

Sounds good. I think we should have the person that picked the car choose the track.

Ford RS200 rally car '84: 424 HP
Upgrade level: stock

Ford RS200 '84: 426 HP
Upgrade level: Heavy

Tadaaaa :)

Lets just start, the one with the best time chooses the specifics, track (& direction), car, and upgrades used (1st session chosen by BH-21). The only question is how long, 3 days seems good, but for the best quantity of entrants a week seems adequate, but that is something that can be tweaked along the way, based on response.

The best time should supply a screenshot, but I think we all can be honest and honorable in our time submissions, and adhere to the upgrades set outlined in each session's rules.

Using the same setup I was able to get a 59.7XX lap time at Tsukuba, but as my system crashed I have no proof. :ouch: Will try to replicate it later.

Ran this time using the exact same setup (other than different gear ratios) as my Nurburgring time above.

If everyone participating in this could get their votes in the next two days, we could get the first round underway this week. You have 3 sections to vote in, see Vote Recap.

SVX - you just need to vote in the Car Picking section and the Time Interval Section and your good to go.

Fbccars924 - you just need to vote in the Car Picking section and the Track picking section and your good to go.

If you could pm me a better description of what is going on I can try to join in tuesday.
Edit: I think a week should be sufficient for collecting times as some of us work.

Upgrade Level: Stock.
Time interval: A week.

This ok?

Sure, but I kind of meant pick one of the three choices in the car picking section, the rest is fine. Sorry I seem to have make it hard to read, I will try to correct that.

Sure would be easier if I could start a poll thread and only certain folks could get in it. I added a new category for track quanity. I will give the voting two more days around this time before I see where we stand and start off the first round.

You could make the poll public and not count the people that you don't want to.

Ok. How about now?
