Suzuki Escudo Hostage Crisis - Day 196

With the unexpected return of the 1988 McLaren MP4/4, as it last sold out less than a month ago after first appearing as a Christmas-time "hot" car and seamlessly transitioning to its then-normal spot in the rotation, it is time to remind PD of the car that has been missing for over 6 months. Since 8/10/2022, the last day the Escudo was available:
  • Only 2 5 other cars have appeared only once - the fellow-hostage 1963 Ford Ford Roadster, itself held hostage 182 days, and the 1995 Toyota Celica GT-FOUR Rally Car (ST205), first introduced in mid-December. Edit - I forgot about the three added last week and still there, and if one counts the Dior version of the De Tomaso Mangusta that was there for almost 6 months, it's 6.
  • With the return of the 1980 Maserati Merak SS, only 33 cars have appeared only twice.
  • 25 cars have appeared three times.
  • 6 cars have appeared four times.
  • The aforementioned McLaren MP4/4 has appeared five times.
The aforementioned Celica GT-FOUR is also long overdue for its second appearance - it has been 2 months since the end of its initial appearance, and every other post-launch car, including the Escudo and Ford Roadster, made their second appearance between 4 and 6 weeks after the end of its initial appearance. Further, there are only 9 cars that last appeared before the Celica that have yet to come back, and only 6 of those last sold out before the Celica (the 1995 Ferrari F50 and 1960 Plymouth XNR Ghia Roadster, which showed up a few hours before the Celica, and the 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion, which showed up a day before the Celica, sold out the day after the Celica).

I only switched from GTS to GT7 a few weeks ago, so I don't know how they handle this all. I hope they drop PDVR2 selling points, like the MP4/4 and the new RA 272. Either one will be good for me and both of them even better.
Sadly, the MP4/4 was in LCD in Januari, so I am not expecting it for a while yet. Any F1 is insta buy for me.
Hey, you got lucky and had the MP4/4 cycle a few weeks before it was scheduled!

Blah I was planning on buying a second MP4/4 but not this soon. I guess if I can amass 88 million total credits before it sells out I’ll grab another. I want to have enough for all the remaining 20 million cars before I buy more doubles.

What about the Alfa 155? I've been playing GT7 since November and I don't remember seeing it at any point.

The good news - we're roughly 3 weeks from the next 20,000,000-Cr. car, the 1994 McLaren F1. The bad - the other three that aren't currently available are due within 2 weeks of the McLaren.

That was last available between 12/9 and 12/17, selling out on 12/18. It should be one of the next 2 cars (unless we get one of the late-1960's "Trophy Three" or the Celica).

I wonder how I missed it. Well, the Alfa and the Escudo are the only 2 cars I actually want to buy. All the others are just extras I can either buy if I'm bored or let go. I feel no real need to grind for credits to buy a 1960's car with 195hp.

Had just bought the Nissan Silhoutte car as am still stuck on Menu 43. That car is good but as always, not good enough for the podium or win.

Will buy this beauty of a car MP4/4. It's legendary afterall.

Ah man I was hoping the 1997 F1 GTR long tail would show up first since buying 6 of those would be easier to recoup my credits backs.

It won't be easy to buy 6 94 F1 when it shows up.

anyone know when the ferrari f50 and 250gto will arrive? also looking for the porsche 917k? :(
The 250 gto last appeared on 1/11/2023 it may not show up again till April.

And the Ferrari f50 on 12/14/2022 so it should appear in march.

And the Porsche 917K on 12/25/2022 so it should appear in march.

I think. :)

Thx you so much for the info I didn't realize there was a system to it I thought it was just completely random? :)

Boy a would I pay good money to have been a part of that board meeting where this guy came up with such a brazen idea as to have a 6 month rotation period for a virtual car in game that people paid 70 bucks to play!!!!

I would have taken that dude by his collar to the nearest curb and shot him outright without ever uthering a phrase to him :D

The world needs less of these bad ideas!

This situation is so weird. I've been running possible explanations through my head and can only really come up with four.

1. PD haven't noticed the Escudo has fallen out of rotation. (Seems very unlikely)
2. PD have noticed its fallen out of rotation but haven't fixed it because:
i - There's a technical reason stopping them (seems unlikely given how easily they can introduce new cars and change the rotation of others)
ii - There's a contractual issue with the car (bit tin foil hat that one)
iii - It's something they know needs fixing but is considered so low priority they just haven't got to it yet

So I guess the last explanation is the most plausible? I am surprised that each update we get doesn't address the situation. I'm half expecting an extra menu that requires the Escudo, with no possibility of purchasing it!

I think we can eliminate ii straight away. If there was a contractual issue, then surely a) it would be removed from the game completely or b) or would appear in the rotation as normal until The ‘dispute’ was resolved then either as you were or again removed completely. This is also backed up by the fact there was a seasonal event featuring the Escudo over the Xmas period.

My money is on iii, they know there is an issue and just haven’t prioritised it yet (perhaps because of the VR2 implementation?)

Is there an ideal tune for the MP4/m in general? I tried this car for my 2 races of Menu 43 at Red Bull Ring & Fuji but to make this car 800pp, I had to add ballast & reduce power.

Both the races I managed to come 4th. Sucks to be stuck on this menu for so long. Wonder if the R92CP or 787B cars will ever appear again in this dealership!

Anyone know when the F40 will be making an another appearance? Was it last sold sometime in December or January?

Bought the GT500! Now waiting for the F1!
The GT500 is more responsive & has better handling than the Alfa. Sadly, the GT500 which is the recommended car for Menu 43 is still not good enough to enable me in securing at least a podium at Fuji & Red Bull Ring.

The MP4/4 gave me my best results of 4th at both tracks but adding ballast to the car makes the F1 car deliver at sub par.

Picked up the 330 P4 last night - can anyone report on which races this car is best for? Ideally I'd like to make some money back with it!

Now grinding for the 250 GT and the MP4/4, although buying the P4 took me down to 6.6 million, so I've got a lot of grinding to do to raise the necessary funds in the next few days!
