Suzuki Escudo Hostage Crisis - Day 196
With the unexpected return of the 1988 McLaren MP4/4, as it last sold out less than a month ago after first appearing as a Christmas-time "hot" car and seamlessly transitioning to its then-normal spot in the rotation, it is time to remind PD of the car that has been missing for over 6 months. Since 8/10/2022, the last day the Escudo was available:
- Only
2 5 other cars have appeared only once - the fellow-hostage 1963 Ford Ford Roadster, itself held hostage 182 days, and the 1995 Toyota Celica GT-FOUR Rally Car (ST205), first introduced in mid-December. Edit - I forgot about the three added last week and still there, and if one counts the Dior version of the De Tomaso Mangusta that was there for almost 6 months, it's 6.
- With the return of the 1980 Maserati Merak SS, only 33 cars have appeared only twice.
- 25 cars have appeared three times.
- 6 cars have appeared four times.
- The aforementioned McLaren MP4/4 has appeared five times.
The aforementioned Celica GT-FOUR is also long overdue for its second appearance - it has been 2 months since the end of its initial appearance, and every other post-launch car, including the Escudo and Ford Roadster, made their second appearance between 4 and 6 weeks after the end of its initial appearance. Further, there are only 9 cars that last appeared before the Celica that have yet to come back, and only 6 of those last sold out before the Celica (the 1995 Ferrari F50 and 1960 Plymouth XNR Ghia Roadster, which showed up a few hours before the Celica, and the 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion, which showed up a day before the Celica, sold out the day after the Celica).
